Watching the promo, I couldn’t help but giggle at the shot of Rumple going through the metal detector. I noticed he doesn’t have his cane (would that have to be checked as a weapon?) or his jacket. There has to be a significant reason why this would be in the promo (we already know he and Emma are going to find Bae).
I’m actually curious to see what kind of ID paperwork Mr. Gold would have and how that would work with TSA. I mean, do people in Storybrooke have Social Security Numbers? Driver’s licenses? Passports? If they have credit cards, are they real/legit? A real credit card company needs an SSN, a credit score, etc. If not by credit, how is Gold (I’m assuming he would pay) paying for airline tickets? After 9/11, airlines don’t react well to people buying tickets with cash, and I’m pretty sure piles of gold thread wouldn’t work either. 😆
On another note, could you imagine Rumple’s reaction to being told he has to remove his jacket and shoes, empty his pockets, etc? 😆 Would his magic affect the machines? Does he even have magic outside Storybrooke?

January 23, 2013 at 10:38 pm #169781jessistaParticipantSarah_TN–I didn’t catch that! Wouldn’t it funny if they were on flight 815 (that was the number, no?).
January 23, 2013 at 10:41 pm #169782tiara_roseParticipantI don’t think that he has magic. In 2.11 he crossed first the line with belle and then trying to shoot Hook with the fire ball.
He looked so lost, propably he will lose his memory temporarly when he is not wearing Baelfires shawl.
This is maybe also a reason why he needs Emma. He need definitely a guide for the outside world. It would be very interesting if we see the lost of Rumple in the Outside and Baelfires arriving in our world.

January 23, 2013 at 10:41 pm #169783PriceofMagicParticipantWould Rumple need a passport to fly to a different state or is a passport only needed to fly to a different country?
Wouldn’t the Mr Gold side of Rumple remember getting on a plane since he has a scottish accent? I wonder if Rumple’s a bad flier?
Perhaps this is the moment where Rumple decides once he finds Bae, he’s never leaving Storybrooke again.
Also, if Manhattan is going to be an angsty episode, perhaps this is going to be the funny episode, kind of the calm before the storm?
All magic comes with a price!

I mean, if Gold is Scottish by birth, does he have naturalization papers somewhere? Would there be INS issues? (how hilarious would that be? “Sir, this says you’re a resident alien from the UK, but you told my colleague you were from Maine.” “I am from Maine, that’s where I live.” “Sir, can you tell me what your city of birth is?” “Um, Glasgow. My father was an American, though, so you might see that on my papers…” “Sir, your papers say you’re from Aberdeen and your father was a kettle salesman. I’m going to need to detain you for a while…”)
Just felt like speculating since we have a 3 week hiatus 👿
January 23, 2013 at 10:50 pm #169786tiara_roseParticipantThis could be the passport nummber of Rumple: 4 8 15 16 23 42 😉

If that happens, I’m going to play the twilight zone music! 😆

How exactly SB and its residents fit in to our world is something I’ve wondered too. Dunno if they necessarily want us to dissect the technicalities. It doesn’t diminish the show for me at all if they just want us to accept that “it just is”, but sometimes I wonder about it.
Like, the place isn’t visible to the outside world, but Henry was able to use MM’s credit card to buy a ticket for a real world bus without the card showing up as being bogus. Using that as an example, it’s safe to assume that any ID Mr Gold has to travel with wouldn’t show up as being bogus either. But how are they in the real world system if the town is a magical creation and is essentially invisible to the outside world? Does not compute.
January 24, 2013 at 6:36 pm #169882schmackyParticipantIt does compute. It’s magic. It just is. They have IDs and social security numbers and credit cards and they work because they work.
The awesome thing about magic is you don’t have to explain it. This isn’t science fiction. It’s pure fantasy.
