Mermaids, Sirens, Water Witches are sprinkled in the folktales / cultural icons of many different ethnic groups and races not just Grimm Fairytales. The Grimm brothers were one of the first to write down and publish the fairytales of their native land. Prior to that fairy tales were passed down verbally from one generation and group of people to another. Here in MI every summer there are STORY TELLING FESTIVALS. I bet they have similar story events in your state. Also check your local library I bet they have similar event, especially for kids.
