Did anyone else catch the lady in the lake was like the mermaids in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides? Like the mermaids, the lady in the lake would drag her victims down to the bottom of the lake. I guess this is just another reference toward the Disney and ABC affiliation.

Mermaids, Sirens, Water Witches are sprinkled in the folktales / cultural icons of many different ethnic groups and races not just Grimm Fairytales. The Grimm brothers were one of the first to write down and publish the fairytales of their native land. Prior to that fairy tales were passed down verbally from one generation and group of people to another. Here in MI every summer there are STORY TELLING FESTIVALS. I bet they have similar story events in your state. Also check your local library I bet they have similar event, especially for kids.

There’s a great tongue-in-cheek poem that offers a theory as to why the sirens have such power of men: http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/siren-song/
