We’re about to get an entire episode centered around Rumple, with some Belle and Red in it. We had an entire Regina-centric episode last week. I actually prefer this method of story-telling, because it goes deeper in one episode with one or two main characters than the writers could go in the span of 2 or 3 snippets of screen time per character each episode. Last week was really good as far as developing Regina’s character, and this week was really good for developing the mother-daughter relationship between Emma and Snow White. If the writers included every character in each episode, then there would be a limit into how far they could go, because they’d be jumping around every other minute. That would be more dissatisfying than the way they’ve chosen to focus on one or two main characters each week.
I also really liked the pacing in this episode. The writers balanced it well between the three story-lines, and I was happy that most of the time was divided between FTL-past and FTL-present with some SB thrown in. I think next week’s episode will mostly focus on SB and FTL-past with only a glimpse of FTL-present. So, the amount of time spent in total on each of the different story-lines seems to be balanced over all.
