Likes:
–Emma so pretty. I swear she’s prettier now in Camelot than ever before.
–The twist with Arthur using the sand on Gwen and his kingdom. It was creepy as heck watching Gwen’s shift, and a twist I didn’t quite see coming.
–Snowing turning on Arthur unexpectedly. After screaming at them not to do all the things they were doing it was good to see that come out to be their working together after all.
–Violet actually having a tiny reason to exist besides being Henry’s crush? Maybe?
–More Dark One lore.
–Callbacks to the gauntlet of plot deviceyness at least makes it slightly less pointless.
–Callback to Snow’s unicorn vision. Can…can the Charmings get used twice to cast a curse and still manage to live through it? (I mean, Regina said they can outlive a cockroach…and she’s not far off.)
–Hook helping Emma escape her visions…it was really sweet.
–Rumple pleading with Emma…so good to have him back in any form. The real one, too, not the vision in her head.
–Yay Merida-Lancelot broship!
–Yay Merida gets to do stuff!
Dislikes:
–No Belle. Grr. Made sense for her not to be there, but still grr.
–The avalon sand is awfully convenient. But it also looks like they’re down to the last bits of it. Has Arthur used that to solve every problem for the last five years then?
–Arthur was a stable boy, Violet’s family owns a stable. ARE THEY RELATED OR NOT? Come on guys, let us know who Violet is. It’s harder to be invested in her when she really feels thrown in as “Henry needs a love interest.” You don’t have to reveal the grand secrets about her–just make her someone we care about.
–Mostly I liked the Lance-Gwen-Arthur triangle development but the blame that the show seems to place on Arthur for not paying her enough attention and then the creepy bit where Gwen (under the spell) takes on the blame herself is…problematic for me. Your actions are your own, no matter what contributed to them. Given some of the other messages that the show has appeared to send about cheating and rape etc…I dunno, it makes for a problematic world view.

October 18, 2015 at 9:16 pm #310207RumplesGirlKeymasterNo.
Just…no.
I have so many issues and am so generally confused. This episode was a mess. Just an absolute mess.
LIKED
–Snowing tricking Arthur. I’m glad they had a plan all along; it’s nice seeing them work together.
–The pony is smarter than the pirate.
–Bobby was really good this episode
–Dreamcatchers. Always going to be linked to SF. Sorry, A and E but you don’t get to dissociate that.
MIXED
–Merida’s back. And in jail? She seems so superfluous to this story. Really—she’s going to make someone brave??
DISLIKED
–Bad child actors trying to do forced accents. Though, granted, they had terrible lines to work with.
–Clunky dialogue like Little! Guinevere telling Arthur to follow his heart. Yeah, find me an eight year old who speaks like that and has a concept of what fate and destiny are.
–Everyone opens the Dark One’s Vault and no one dies. EXCEPT NEAL. Yeah, no. This was bull. I don’t care..it was bull. What about the price of magic? What about messing with dark forces? Yeah, you keep telling me that Neal’s death was because he messed with forces he didn’t understand. Bull. Guinevere, Arthur, Lance, Snow and Charming all went into that vault, opened it and everything and *nothing* happened.
–WHAT IS THIS TIMELINE. Omg…five years ago…what?
–Arthur roofied Guinevere into loving him I will bet you dollars to donuts that it’s never going to come up again. Seriously. This show has such a CONSENT problem. It’s makes me livid that the writers don’t realize how they’ve cast some of their characters and their actions with all the lack of consent and rape over tones.
–Emma’s entire storyline now is about kissing Hook. Remember when she used to talk to Mary Margaret and Henry? Remember that? Good times.
–Why is Emma still wearing that white gown?
–Why is Hook in a pirate’s outfit all the time!!! Everyone else got Camelot clothing. Oh, right. ABC mandated that Colin has to be dressed as a pirate.
–Rumple can create portals now!!! Guys. WHAT WAS SEASON ONE ABOUT BECAUSE I HAVE AMENESIA
–Rumple keeps his danger in a jungle?! How? Why? What?
–The gauntlet was supposed to come from Rumple’s trip to Camelot. So again..what??
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 18, 2015 at 9:34 pm #310214nonnieParticipantKEB …. I must of missed this ….
–Violet actually having a tiny reason to exist besides being Henry’s crush? Maybe?WHAT made you think that there was a reason for Violet ???

.October 18, 2015 at 9:37 pm #310216WickedRegalParticipantI found myself enjoying this episode….it was actually good. Far more interesting than last week.
Liked:
Rumple….that’s all I have to say! Bobby plays this “Devil on the Shoulder” Role very good!Believe it or not, Hook and Emma spying on Henry and Violet….it was almost parallel to Lion King Scene where Timon and Pumbaa were singing “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” while spying on Simba and Nala.
Robin and Regina…always and forever.
Snowing actually using their heads this time….I kinda got Season 1 feels a little, it felt like the old days.
“Those Two can outlive a cockroach.” BEST LINE OF THE NIGHT!!! Regina knows from experience how hard it is to kill Snowing…though I still wonder why it was so difficult searching for Snow when Magic Mirror showed her everyone anytime, so she could have just poofed in and killed either one and been done, but I guess Regina low key liked the cat and mouse game she was playing with Snow White.
Disliked:
For the first time all season, I don’t think I have a dislike.

October 18, 2015 at 9:40 pm #310219KebParticipantViolet’s reason for existence is that she has a stable for CS to hide out in. And borrow horses from. That’s all…but it’s…something?

Well….they were just opening the Dark One Vault, Neal was actually resurrecting the Dark One which enforced the price “A life for life”.

And the darkness was still inside so really…kinda the same thing. It literally attacked Lancelot. The darkness is an entity that had agency in both situations. Still not seeing anyone pay with a life.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 18, 2015 at 10:03 pm #310228MatthewPaulModeratorThis is probably the weakest episode of the Season for me so far.
LIKED
– Snow and Charming getting over their little fight, and outwitting Arthur together as a team. I was starting to get annoyed at how much Charming seemed to be trusting Arthur, so I’m relieved Charming ultimately decided to trust Snow instead.
– Emma trying to confront her visions of Rumple. This was a nice struggle for her character.MIXED
– I liked seeing Lancelot, but I felt like he should have been given more to do.
– Nice to see Merida back, but I’m iffy on how much purpose she has in this storyline.DISLIKED
– The whole Camelot flashback. It just felt off and wonky.
– Arthur’s growing obsession and controlling behavior felt underdeveloped. So he was bullied as a kid and wants to prove that he’s worthy no matter the cost? Something feels missing.
– Rumple taking the gauntlet while Guinevere and Lancelot visited his vault. Doesn’t seem to add up with when he said he went to Camelot to get it, unless the vault is located within Camelot’s domain.
– Magic dust that can not only make objects appear complete, but can also brainwash people. It can even rebuild an entire castle! This might be the most eye-rolling plot device yet, and that’s saying a lot when it comes to this show.
– Guinevere’s acting, in the most respectful way I can think of, felt lacking. I sorta had this impression since she was first introduced, but her performance this episode cements it.–Everyone opens the Dark One’s Vault and no one dies.
To be slightly fair to the show, they weren’t using the vault to trade a life for a life. A life was specifically the price for resurrecting the Dark One, and that wasn’t their reason for visiting the vault. The vault has to exist for other reasons aside from resurrecting a previous Dark One, as we saw Emma emerging from it in “The Dark Swan.” But yeah, still didn’t make sense for them to go inside the vault itself at all. Especially when it contradicts that Rumple went to Camelot to get the gauntlet, unless they specifically explain that the vault was within Camelot’s borders this entire time, since Snow and Lancelot were able to get to it rather quickly in this episode. I’m hoping for more answers when it comes to a possible Dark One origin flashback. But really, they could have had that run in with Rumple literally anywhere else.
