Rumple is the Dark One, again. Feel free to flip all the tables or feel free to celebrate, whichever tickles your fancy.
So, excited? Not excited? Happy? Not so happy?
What does this mean for Rumbelle? What does it mean for Rumple? And the show?

I said some things I won’t repeat but it comes down to this: rage.
It’s not even that Rumple is a good character anymore, he’s certainly not the character I once loved. But really…? Again?! You couldn’t actually try to redeem him and let him earn forgiveness? You had to go and make him lie to Belle (again again again) and turn back to his old ways?! Why? WHY?! Why must every other villain under the sun get the chance for goodness but not him?

I was the biggest Rumple fan/Rumbeller out there but I have to say it’s now gone.

To say the least I wasn’t expecting that twist. I mean really? Now I do love me some DO Rumple and it was rather comical, however, nobody really seemed that shocked. I mean they weren’t texting Belle immediately. So in Storeybrook it’s not a big deal.
Seriously whiplash guys… Rumbelle had some great moments this episode and seemed like rumple really was going to be a hero… I was genuinely happy for them for the first time in a while…but nope DO again?!?

Nobody, NOBODY wanted this to happen. They went as dark as they could with Rumple all last Season, to the point where his heart was dying. Then they go through all the trouble of making Rumple a hero this half of the Season, only to backpeddal completely? What we fans really wanted was to see Rumple’s character continue to develop without magic as a crutch. Making him the Dark One again undones all of that completely. To add salt to the wounds, Belle takes him back JUST before it was revealed he reverted back. Not to mention, wasn’t the entire point of this storyarc to destroy the Dark One once and for all? The only “good reason” I could think of for all of this is if the writers want Rumple to willingly give up his powers the next time around. But is that what the writers honestly want to do? We all fear they really did this because they prefer writing Rumple as a villain, and would prefer to continue going that route.

AND Rumple has sex with Belle, making her think that he has turned over a new leaf, is selfless and brave and a hero now.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"I’m left feeling cheated and angry. Rumple’s storyline of having to learn how to live as a man without magic and as the man Belle deserves had a lot of potential. I was interested in watching him grow and change as a character.
Sure, I can see how they could be writing him as a contrast to Regina’s character. One is able to continue to recover from their darkness and the other ‘relapses’ (which aligns with the addiction analogy for the power of the Dark One). Do I like it? No. Not one little teeny tiny bit. Had this season not already been repetitious (memory wiping dark curse), and disjointed (Camelot? Where is everyone from Camelot?), perhaps this wouldn’t feel AS exhausting (who am I kidding, it still would ugh). At the very least, the story could have built up to Rumple DO 2.0 over a longer period of time, exploring what was going on under the surface. After this I am more relieved for a 2.5 month break than I am excited to see what happens in 5B.
Overall I feel as though the show invited me over for dinner, laid out a feast before me, gave me a couple crumbs, then threw all the food into the trash.
And then set the trash can on fire.
