I think @nonnie might have forgotten to do this for this week’s episode so I went ahead and put one up. These threads are always some of my favorites. Y’all know the drill!
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 9, 2017 at 8:59 pm #335716RumplesGirlKeymasterGENERAL: I dunno. It was better than last week but was all over the place. I like that we got some solid answers about Gideon and what’s going on with him. Plus a long standing question got an answer (sort of. I have no idea how Snow got that powder from the Black Fairy…). But man ease up off that throttle writers. There were some unneeded plot lines!
RATING: 7.5/10
LIKED
–The Black Fairy called Gideon “Dearie.” Nice little inside joke
–Enjoyed Gideon telling Emma for having such a black/white view of him. At this point in her life Emma should know that villains are infinitely more complicated than they first appear; but of course Gideon messed with Hook and that’s Emma’s no-no.
–Is the dust the Black Fairy gave to Gideon the same dust Snow had in S1 that she got from a “dark fairy.” If yes, then yay continuity! If no, then boo for wasted potential.
–“Freedom. Sports car. Big Apple. And Hamilton tickets.” I mean, I would honestly demand the same? (Does this mean it’s 2015 in SB? That’s when Hamilton opened)
–The Black Fairy did create the Dark Curse! (sort of? Out of dust?) (but how did this random kid know about Emma/The Savior?)
–The Black Fairy has Gideon’s heart. Thank god; a logical, no-nonsense canon compliant answer to why Gideon’s plans and understanding of Saviorhood makes zero sense.
–‘Its the final chapter.”
MIXED
–Why is Gideon “different” and “precious” to the Black Fairy? I get that he’s Rumple’s son but so was Baelfire. Why did she never try to take Rumple’s first son?
–All the darkness we’ve ever seen comes from the Black Fairy? I don’t get what this means. So was she born evil; can you be born evil if you’re responsible for putting evil into the world? I really hope the Black Fairy’s storyline is worth this mental headache.
–This is super nitpicky but I hate Emma’s magic. All it is is a stream of white light. At least Regina gets fireballs. Emma’s magic should be extreme; almost Hogwarts-ian, lots of drama and flair.
–Jaime Murray scene chewing her way through everything. She’s keeping with the Cruella-type of villain.
–I don’t get how killing Emma unlocks a realm. How did Gideon leave the realm with Emma still alive? Why is Emma’s life tied to the Black Fairy’s imprisonment at all? She was locked up long before Emma was born!
DISLIKED
–Seriously what even is the Black Fairy’s outfit??
–I already gave my thoughts on Emma and Snow in Rumbelle’s shop. I cannot with Snow and Emma’s hypocrisy.
— Shouldn’t Blackbeard ask if the Jolly Roger is in the EF OR realize that it clearly can’t be in the EF since Hook isn’t using it to get home? Characters are stupid when the writers need them to be.
–“Portals take extreme magic and do not just come out of thin air.” Lies, writers. LIES.
–Magic beans are everywhere; including Blackbeard’s hat!
–All of Hook’s scenes were totally unnecessary.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 9, 2017 at 9:02 pm #335717WickedRegalParticipantThis was a good episode! We definetly got a lot of answers to a lot of our questions, and I think it served it’s purpose! We understand Gideon a bit more!
Rating: 7/10
Liked:
Learning that Rumple learned the term “Dearie” from his mother, Black Fairy. It makes so much sense now how that’s his favorite word! XD
RegalBeliever Scenes are always the Highlight.
Gideon’s really grown on me!
“What did I do that was so bad?” “Tried to kill us all!”
Did anyone else see a parallel of Cora/Regina/Daniel with Black Fairy/Gideon/Roderick?!
Speak up for your son Rumple!!!
Mixed:
Belle girl, stop letting these heroes disrespect your family like this!
I screamed at the Hamilton Tickets scene, but isn’t OUAT like two to three years behind us? How would they know about a musical that’s not even out yet? It would’ve been easier and better timeline wise to have Isaac ask for tickets to see Aladdin or Wicked…or even Newsies!
Sooo…….why run throughout the house…when Emma could just poof away?! I don’t understand.
Emma’s going to have so many spider nightmares!
Disliked:
Those self-righteous Charmings…I just can’t! The main enemy here is Black Fairy, not Gideon!
Blackbeard and Hook had an interesting interaction, however I just really didn’t care too much for the Neverland Scenes tonight.

April 9, 2017 at 9:04 pm #335721hjbauParticipantIt is really feeling like each episode is completely unconnected to the one before it. It is all just a random nothing. I really can’t think of anything interesting that happened in this episode. It was just a bunch of plot and no character and it went no where.

Because the writers wanted to use a pop culture reference and hoped we wouldn’t catch on. When we did, however….
For the record, in the #OnceUponATime universe #Hamilton hit Broadway about 18 months earlier than in our universe. #timelinepolice

omg this.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 9, 2017 at 9:14 pm #335725AKAParticipantWow there was a lot of stuff for one episode. I give it a 8/10
Liked:
Rumple finally telling Emma how it is don’t mess with my son
Gideon telling Emma how it is and calling her self righteous someone needs to also get this message to Snow (Gideon is more like Rumple than Belle and I like it)
I enjoyed seeing Issac again, he was a little comic relief that this episode needed
The Black Fairy has Gideon’s heart which makes sense and makes his weird thinking believable
Mixed:
They probably could have left off the Hook and Black Beard stuff for this week we had enough going on without adding this but I guess we have to pander to the CS fans
I hate the Black Fairy’s voice inflections. I think they are going for sugary sweet but evil but I find it just annoying
Belle, he is your son why is it that your husband with the black heart has more faith in him than you do and why are you not sticking up for him. So what is your solution just give up on him?
Disliked:
Emma and Snow being hypocritical and self righteous!!!!!!!!!
April 9, 2017 at 9:59 pm #335732bibliophileParticipantI agree this episode was all over the place, but also filled with lots of little nuggets of story and a definite forward momentum that was appreciated.
LIKED
Rumbelle more or less sticking together throughout the episode. One of the worst annoyances I’ve had with Once over the last three seasons has been the constant fighting between this pair that really should’ve been bright enough to find another way to communicate which I assume was fueled by the writers desire to make Gold darker because… they thought they were redeeming too many villains? They couldn’t figure out how to write Rumple as a gray character and keep him interesting (like he was in seasons 1-3)? Fans complained that Belle was too weak a character and wanted her to have some ‘strength’? (note I do not consider yelling to be a sign of strength; quite the opposite.)
Emma getting wrapped up in the web and nearly dragged off only to be rescued by Gold and his shiny new redemption arc.
LOVE The Black Fairy as a villain. She really has a scary vibe.
MIXED
All this stuff with Hook and Blackbeard felt like filler even though I did sort of enjoy seeing Blackbeard again; it’s always nice when someone waves to us from forgotten character island. I guess it was interesting to get a glimpse of a Pan-less Neverland, but like I said all of this stuff was unnecessary to the plot and only served to keep Hook onscreen.
The Black fairy’s realm… it was sort of a dark version of the dwarf mines with hammers instead of pickaxes, but even though it was dark, it somehow failed to be dark enough to really make me feel like THIS is truly the darkest of souls we’ve ever scene.
The automatic writing from Henry… I’m not sure what this is. Again I do enjoy a wave form a forgotten character, but I’m not sure how I feel about this one. One more sign that the show (at least as we know it) could be wrapping up this season.
DISLIKED
Hypocrite Charmings. But LOVED that both Belle and Rumple stood up for Gideon. After the last few seasons I half expected Belle to walk out with The Charmings after Rumple threatened them. Threatening a hero doesn’t make you a villain when you’re only doing EXACTLY WHAT these so called heroes do when people they deem worthy have problems like this… and what happened to heroes ‘always finding another way’ (than killing)?
QUESTIONS
If The Black Fairy is the original evil then she must be very old indeed, and if she’s trapped in her dark realm except for brief baby-napping jaunts… how exactly was Rumple conceived? I’m not asking for a visual Once, just a brief line of explanation would do.
April 9, 2017 at 10:02 pm #335733bibliophileParticipantGENERAL: –The Black Fairy has Gideon’s heart. Thank god; a logical, no-nonsense canon compliant answer to why Gideon’s plans and understanding of Saviorhood makes zero sense.
I second this!
April 9, 2017 at 10:43 pm #335740RumplesGirlKeymasterI just thought of another dislike!
–Emma’s nonsense superpower strikes again!
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 9, 2017 at 11:10 pm #335750GaultheriaParticipantRiddles are fun. December 15, 1901 was a Sunday, not a Wednesday, so I don’t know what Isaac’s license plate means, but it obviously means something. Maybe the wedding happens at 7:01 PM on December 15th? Or is this a Lost reference?
–This is super nitpicky but I hate Emma’s magic. All it is is a stream of white light.
That and a facial expression that proclaims severe discomfort from intestinal gas.
Blackbeard and Hook had an interesting interaction
Lando and Han, playing for the Falcon.
Belle, he is your son why is it that your husband with the black heart has more faith in him than you do and why are you not sticking up for him. So what is your solution just give up on him?
In real life, if a family member has tried to murder people and might try again, it’s good to get help for the family member, but that must not be the priority. David Kaczynski knew this about his brother Ted, for instance.
