We have theorized that Mr. Gold may know that he was once Rumpelstiltskin, and knows the power he has over Mayor Regina Mills. But one of our many awesome listeners, Malchore, shared this video with us of Robert Carlyle and Ginnifer Goodwin being interviewed by G4 at Comic-Con 2011.
Watch this and pay close attention to what Robert says at 1:40.
Our show takes place in two different realities. We have fantasy/fairytale land and then we have the real world.
I play Rumpelstiltskin in the fairytale land. … And in the real world, I play a character called Mr. Gold. And Mr. Gold is probably very closely related to Rumpelstiltskin. He doesn’t know that he was Rumpelstiltskin, but he was. As well as everyone else in Storybrooke, they are all the fairytale characters that you see in the fairytale part of the show. [Emphasis added]
While this is from before the show even started, it does lend great support to the idea that Mr. Gold doesn’t know his real past.
So why is Mr. Gold doing the things he is? Perhaps he truly doesn’t know his history, but he knows something isn’t right. And in some way, he’s conscious of the curse and his partial power within it.
What would happen if Rumpelstiltskin were to steal the book Once Upon a Time from Henry?
