I agree with Jenna and arguing about type of bird it is, is so ridiculous.  Could have been a giant eagle or whatever.  The point is, Hook got the message and escaped the curse, found Emma and brought her back.  Who cares what type of bird it was.

So Hook can’t tell apart birds, or someone on the writing staff didn’t do proper research. This is not new. Remember, Regina’s honey crisp apples.  Those are not honey crisp apples. They’re red delicious.
