So, today I rewatched the Pilot to see how the wardrobe had worked. The curse had been cast, and was moving toward the castle when Charming placed Emma in the wardrobe. A few minutes later, Regina’s guards open the door and Emma is gone. It seems to me that once the “door” to our world was opened by the curse, the wardrobe could act as a limited portal.
Since the Jolly Roger is supposedly made of enchanted wood, maybe it acted as a portal to our world with Hook’s thoughts guiding him to get Emma. The cast was already cast when Neal sent the note. He knew about the Jolly Roger from his time with Hook & the wood would protect him from the curse. So, Hook reads the note, knows what he needs to do & appears outside of Emma’s door. Just like the wardrobe remained behind in EF, the Jolly Roger did too.
During the first curse, no one was on the Jolly Roger, so it didn’t act like a portal. Hook was under the bubble with Cora.

Edit: I just double checked…Hook doesn’t actually specify what kind of bird…”seagull” and “pigeon”, I believe, were suppositions. (If I’m wrong let me know, but I’m almost positive I’m not wrong.)

Yes, I rewatched that scene, he did say “bird” and not “seagull”. Though that might not be the only episode he referenced the message.
So one more time, for the cheap seat in the back, how the HECK does Hook get to our world?! Regina just said that there are no more portals–hats, beans, ect.
Regina said that a wall was set up between FTL and LWM because she undid the curse and all possible portals were sealed shut as a result. Maybe when Regina re-created the curse and Snow re-cast it the wall was brought down and the portals started to work again.

Yes, Hook says that. I’m not sure what to make of this: but if you were watching with the Closed Captions on, the dialogue on screen reads “seagull” which is why a lot of people thought it was Ariel who sent Hook the message.

Either it was in error OR the original script did say “seagull” but was changed once on set, if A and E decided to do something else.

I am still very sensitive about my CaptainFire, people!
April 30, 2014 at 4:51 pm #265119obisgirlParticipantI agree with Jenna and arguing about type of bird it is, is so ridiculous. Could have been a giant eagle or whatever. The point is, Hook got the message and escaped the curse, found Emma and brought her back. Who cares what type of bird it was.
So Hook can’t tell apart birds, or someone on the writing staff didn’t do proper research. This is not new. Remember, Regina’s honey crisp apples. Those are not honey crisp apples. They’re red delicious.

I had thought the reason Neal couldn’t remember merging with his dad was due to him being cursed to forget the missing year along with everyone else, besides Zelena and Hook. Yet, Neal thanked Hook for getting the message to Emma, suggesting he remembered sending the bird during the missing year. Then again, he didn’t remember bringing back his dad from the dead, paying the price with his life, or being absorbed either. Selective amnesia?
