and as an aside, having conversations about mental health and suicide/self harm should not be avoided under the excuse of “not wanting to trigger you” – that’s nonsense
i didn’t say that at all! Of course it can be discussed…but there is a difference between being discussed and being celebrated. She says “I have to destroy myself” and then goes on to talk about how this is her happy ending while she is bathed in redemptive white light and ends up saving everyone.
And, to the opposite of you, as someone who has also had extensive suicide and self harm problems, I DID find it triggering which was my whole point and why I wasn’t going harp on it (except to point out that I didn’t say what you thought): that some will see it one way and others will see it another. And that I get that it’s supposed to read as “sacrifice” but the dialogue of the scene and the action of what is happening is troubling.
When Rumple did basically the same thing, it was emotionally devastating…the message was “this is not a happy ending” and that his life was worth living, hence them trying to get him back. But Ingrid’s sacrifice is being upheld as something morally right and just and a good thing. I get that it’s hyper fantastical and again, that’s why I’m not going to dwell except to point out that it is a troubling image.
he only thing that I didn’t like, and even then it’s not a didn’t-like thing and more just a yelling-at-the-tv thing… stop picking on Dopey! It’s not his fault he’s simple! :-/
Yeah I agree. A lot of people are liking that moment but I actually thought it was a rather poor and cheap shot at people with mental disabilities.
