But when a character goes one step further and verbally acknowledges a current Storybrooke situation (that has been recognized or occured since Emma arrived) that parallels the same situation they found themselves in in their FTL life to someone else, they begin to have stronger flashbacks of their FTL life.

I like this theory. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s correct.
