After watching Heart of Darkness again yesterday I caught something that I missed the first time around (not sure how I missed it). When Archie was hypnotizing David he said that he DID call Kathryn on her cell and that Kathryn said she realized she needed to start over with a new life and that she thought he and MM should be together. She said she was hurt but that she wanted him to be happy. Then Archie asked him what happened next and he said he saw MM in the woods – that was his flashback of Snow in the woods in FTL. This seems to be his first flashback of FTL.
First – this seems to mean that Regina did NOT doctor the phone records. David really did call Kathryn on her cell phone.
Second – even though Regina burned the letter Kathryn left for David telling him he should be with MM, it didn’t matter – Kathryn TOLD him he should be with MM on the phone.
Third – this seems to fit in with my theory about how the characters remember who they are. When something happens in Storybrooke that makes them deviate from their Storybrooke path and they subconsciously recognize they are in the same situation they were in in their FTL life they begin to have flashbacks of their FTL life. This would explain David’s “blackouts” – which really weren’t blackouts. He was wandering around in the forest because after Kathryn told him he should be with MM, it was just like when Abigail told him James he should be with Snow and he went searching for Snow in the forest. But when a character goes one step further and verbally acknowledges a current Storybrooke situation (that has been recognized or occured since Emma arrived) that parallels the same situation they found themselves in in their FTL life to someone else, they begin to have stronger flashbacks of their FTL life. So when David told Archie what Kathryn told him on the phone (which was basically the same thing Abigail told James in FTL) he suddenly had stronger flashbacks of his FTL life.
This follows the EXACT same pattern as what happened to Graham. And when Regina figured it out she crushed Graham’s heart and killed him. It also makes me wonder if Kathryn had started to have flashbacks as well – having flashbacks could explain her sudden change of heart about David. And verbalizing the fact that she needed a new life and thought David should be with MM to Regina and on the phone to David right before her car went off the road and was found by Frederick would also be consistent – having Frederick show up would be similar to having Graham’s wolf show up when he started to remember.

I like this theory. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s correct.

Okay, I got it. Regina did doctor the records and David remembers of making the phone call, that was “the curse.” False memories. I mean, if he remembered making the call to begin with, he would have told Emma, right?
March 28, 2012 at 1:10 pm #140169killianhookfanParticipantRight, but he didn’t remember this until he was hypnotized – just like he didn’t remember seeing MM in the woods until he was hypnotized – and that was a REAL memory. Archie woke David up when he said he “went too deep into hypnosis.” That was when he went into his FTL memories. But the part of the his memory where he said that he spoke to Kathryn on the phone and she said that he and MM should be together are consistent with what she wrote in her letters. Why would Regina burn a letter to David that says that he and MM should be together but then give him a false memory of the same thing?

And supposedly, David never read the letter. I mean, didn’t Katherine tell Regina about the letters before David or Mary Margaret? I got that impression that Regina was the only one who knew about that.
March 28, 2012 at 1:39 pm #140179killianhookfanParticipantThat’s what I thought too because Regina used her keys (my keys 😆 ) to go into their house and take the letter before he could read it.
I just thought it was interesting since Abigail also told James that she was fine with James and Snow being together. Then Kathryn told David the same thing. Then we were made to assume that Regina doctored the phone records but it seems she didn’t.
But, once again Dumb David manages to screw it all up. He still hasn’t shared that Kathryn told him that he and MM should be together (that to me would be the important piece of info to share if you want to HELP MM). No, no – instead he wants to know why the long haired version of MM wearing men’s clothing says she is going to “kill her” in the middle of a snow storm.
Has anyone asked to be the keeper of David’s low IQ yet???
March 28, 2012 at 6:04 pm #140192hjbauParticipantI think that David must have actually called Kathryn and just forgot it because of his blackouts. I am not sure if that really makes sense. But i don’t think it makes sense that the Queen would burn the letter from Kathryn and then implant the same fake memories in David. That doesn’t seem to make sense to me.
March 28, 2012 at 6:56 pm #140209SlurpeezParticipantAgreed. I think the conversation between David and Kathryn really did take place and isn’t a fake memory implanted into him. The entire point of the hypnosis was that it unlocked David’s subconscious and true memories of FTL.

March 28, 2012 at 7:13 pm #140211weedithParticipantI like the idea that when SB life starts to parallel FTL life, it jogs a sense of familiarity or deja vu in people. This is totally consistent with what happened to Kathryn. Poor girl. I shudder to think of where her heartless body might turn up.
I do wonder how much power Regina still has over people in SB. Once she set the curse in motion, could she still control people? The curse implanted the false memories/histories into people’s minds, but does Regina have the ability to implant particular memories as need arises now that Emma is mucking about with things?
March 28, 2012 at 7:33 pm #140214hjbauParticipantI don’t think that Regina can still implant memories unless she were to somehow reinitialize the curse. I think it is just that people are afraid of her and that is how she controls them and not forcing them to do stuff like a puppet. If that makes sense.
