I think this was one of the darkest episodes of the season.
It’s like we’re on the same wavelength after an episode. 😀 I totally agree though that it was really dark. I wasn’t actually expecting it to be since I thought “Manhattan” would be darker than it was, and it wasn’t that dark to me even with finding out the whole prophecy because there’s no way they’re going to kill off Henry. “The Queen Is Dead” really took me by surprise though, but I’m glad that the stakes actually do seem to matter now. For too long this season, imo, I’ve never really felt that anyone has really been in any kind of danger because they’ve been telling more than showing with Cora, and I can’t take Hook seriously as a villain. Tonight really changed things though, and for the first time, I really felt like anything could happen between now and the season finale. I only wish the writers could kick into gear throughout the whole season because last year was similar in that there were some good shows at the beginning, but then a lot of mediocre ones, until the last third of the season or got me hooked again.
First off, Regina has been getting more and more annoying. The scene where she claims that she was Queen and everyone else added the Evil to it–that was one of the dumbest things she said, and I’m glad Snow White didn’t both to feel guilty about that because she shouldn’t. Regina earned that title all on her own with her own actions.
Oh god I know. Really don’t see how they’re going to redeem Regina now either since she not only sent Anton after Charming, but more importantly she didn’t do anything to stop Johanna’s death at all, and probably would have killed her if Snow had kept the dagger. I’m sure they will redeem her though because I feel the writers are overly sympathetic to her character, but really at this point it’s ridiculous, because she’s had so many chances, but she still doesn’t get it.
First, I agree she’s earned her title all by herself. Snow wanted to be her friend and have a new mother figure in her life, but instead of blaming Cora like she should have, Regina had to focus all her hatred on a young girl. Second, she has to learn that she’s not going to earn everyone’s forgiveness and frankly maybe she shouldn’t. I really don’t see how the Storybrooke residents were being hypocritical at all. In fact, they really went out of their way in being nice to her when she should be in prison or worse for all the crimes that she’s committed.
And then her finally figuring out that Cora had planned for Snow White’s horse to go off on it’s own. I thought that was just stupid–she knows her mother. She knows what she is capable of. And yet she seems really slow to figure out what her mother has done.
Yes, that’s one reason last season I didn’t enjoy her as much as a villain to watch like I did Rumple because she seemed so dense at times not that people didn’t sometimes get the better of him, but most of the time he was ahead of everyone else. She did have little victories over some of the characters, but then she’d comment about Gold helping her and actually believing it, and I really couldn’t take her seriously as a villain because it should have been pretty obvious that Gold wasn’t helping her at all.
Rumpelstiltskin snapping at Henry was extreme–I get that he fears Henry, but the boy was obviously not at fault. This was all Captain Hook and Rumpelstiltskin’s feud.
Yes, I really didn’t like that part. It’s hard to fanwank it too because he was already nasty to Henry even before he was stabbed; although, I blame it all on him being so overwhelmed by all the new information and events that have happened in a relatively short amount of time. He’s back in the position of not having any power or control over his life, and it’s scaring the hell out of him. He really shouldn’t take it out on Henry though.
Loved the Fairytale Land story–Bailee Madison seriously does great as young Snow White. The scene with her mother, Johanna, and the ‘Blue Fairy’ were just heartbreaking.
This was the first time in a long that the show had thrown a surprised twist–Cora as the Blue Fairy was a surprise that I got as soon as she gave Snow White the candle. But it as still all the more powerful to see her.
Yes, I’m glad I wasn’t spoiled about the “Blue Fairy”. They really tore my heart out though with first Eva dying and then Johanna.
Also Ginnifer Goodwin–she was wonderful in the episode. Being patient and calm and kind–the last scene where she says she will kill Cora was cold and calm.
Yes, I can’t blame her for killing Cora either. While I don’t thinks she should do it just to have vengeance, I wouldn’t blame her for killing Cora out of self defense. Love that they gave Ginnifer Goodwin more to do than just argue with Charming over going back to the Enchanted Forest or not. I wish the writers would pair up different characters more like Regina and Snow because of the back story there instead of insisting on long stretches of characters being separated from each other or stories where the emotional impact is lost because they go too fast with the storytelling like Archie’s “death”.
The scene where Johanna died was horrible–I knew she was doomed, but the way she died shocked me. And I truly hated both Regina and Cora in that scene.
Oh I did too. Again, I really don’t think Regina should be given another chance after that; although, I know she will be.
Another plus was that there was no Greg–a huge relief
Yes, I really wish they would have saved him until next season or at least waited until maybe right before the finale before introducing him because there’s so many other things to get too that I really hate him taking away time from the other story lines. Plus, he really doesn’t fit in right now, imo.
