I think the apple would have the same effect on anyone that ate it.
Also Emma always is reluctant to take something from someone right away, especially Ragina. You see her questioning things in her eyes (facial expression) so unless she senses trust she won’t take it, or takes it to examine closely for clues. Sadly there are no clues in an apple turnover.
