I suspect that Neal is one of the people hiding out in the woods, and he’s not a monkey. After all, he’s spent over 100 years in Neverland. Hiding out in the woods wouldn’t be all that different to hiding out in a jungle.
But this goes back to a question I asked a page ago: if there are things picking people off in the woods, then WHY are people camping there??? I mean, they have houses where flying creatures of doom will not come get them.

I could see Robin Hood and his men camping out in the woods because that is what they’re used to after spending all their lives living in Sherwood Forest.

Oh, I agree. But there are two possible scenarios for that line.
Option A: “Where is Neal?” “We don’t know but there are people camped in the woods” Flash to the end of the episode where Emma find Neal in the woods. (foreshadowing)
Option B: “Where is Neal?” “We don’t know there are people camped in the woods.” Flash to the end of the episode where Emma DOES NOT find Neal in the woods (misdirection)

A year has gone by. Belle already told Neal she doesn’t believe Rumple is dead…after Snowing’s speech about Emma & Henry (if Neal bought it, and considering it was a pretty cruddy speech, that’s a big if, but I digress) Neal might believe he can’t immediately get to Emma/Henry, but Belle might be able to talk Neal into finding the rest of his family – his father. So I’m kind of hoping Neal & Belle didn’t get caught up in the curse because they weren’t in the kingdom — they were off on their search for Rumple.
Unless, of course, Rumple is under the WW’s control and she’s got him tucked away somewhere inside the kingdom…ok, there goes that theory.
OK – Neal AND Belle are in the woods, but it might take some time for the others to find them because they’re hot on the trail of figuring out what happened to Rumple and where Rumple might be.
Regardless, as amusing as it could be I’m assuming at least that he’s 1) not captured by the WW and 2) not monkey.
Neal might believe he can’t immediately get to Emma/Henry, but Belle might be able to talk Neal into finding the rest of his family – his father. So I’m kind of hoping Neal & Belle didn’t get caught up in the curse because they weren’t in the kingdom — they were off on their search for Rumple.
I think Neal has a duel agenda. Getting to Rumple in order to get to Henry and Emma. He said in 312 that stopping at the DO castle was in order to get back to Emma and Henry. So for Neal finding his father is paramount because he wants his father and also to get back to Emma and his son.

Yes but Neal doesn’t know that right away. Something might lead him to that conclusion and have him seek out the WW in order to free Rumple.

According to the first Sneak, Belle is in the town hall. She’s not with Neal anymore.
