Im very exited for the ep Jenna_B. Loving Z as a a villain more and more. Fairytales ARE dark! It was just Disney that got that part wrong.
No one is saying that fairy tales aren’t dark but there are some lines that I didn’t think ONCE would cross–rape, for instance. After the backlash for Regina and Graham, frankly, they should know better. Messing with an infant baby is also getting a little too post-9pm.
Fairy tales are dark but there is dark and then there is excessive.
Well I dont think they have crossed the line yet. Ofcourse that will always be a subjective opinion. But I dont think they will either. Its ABC right? they dont do many edgy Things in my understanding of them.

Actually, ABC does have some of the ‘racier’ dramas on network television – Scandal, Grey’s (I suppose, I haven’t watched in forever), Revenge…it’s by no means in the same league as, say, CW, and they look like a bunch of nuns compared to cable tv, but for the big 5, they do have some shows that play with that appropriate for all audiences line…of course, the shows mentioned are also not in the 8pm hour…
I wonder if our minds aren’t taking things further than the show will, though. I agree, the S1 Regina/Graham thing was pretty borderline, but I think it’s younger audience didn’t necessarily ‘get’ what was going on (doesn’t make it right, just saying…) In regard to the Zelena storyline – we were under the impression that Rumple was pretty much completely taken over due to Zelena having the dagger, but we’ve now seen that’s not quite the case. Zelena is driven by the same things many of these characters are – the desire to feel loved. She just happens to be bat crap crazy, too! So I think what we’re seeing in pics and whatnot might actually be Rumple pulling out some of his old tricks and at least attempting to manipulate Zelena. Whether it works is another story, but my point is just that it might not be quite as bad as we’re thinking.
As for the baby…I have no clue. That one is throwing me through a complete loop.

Subjectivity, which is exactly what I said 2 pages back. However, Regina did rape Graham for 28 years and there has yet to be any sort of discussion of that, except for Adam’s frankly insulting rug sweeping of “you don’t know what was going on” which is blatantly offensive to rape victims everywhere. If the roles had been reversed–had it been Graham controlling Regina–no one (NO ONE) would be be ignoring it. A spade is a spade.
You cannot disassociate the show from it’s medium, television. Fairy tales are dark, absolutely. But for a Sunday 8pm show that is run by Mickey Mouse there ARE lines, or else you risk alienating your audience.

Yes but you have to put them in context of TV ie: when those shows take place.
Scandal–Thursday’s at 10pm (not family hour)
Grey’s –Thursday at 9pm (just marginally outside of family hour)
As for the CW, it’s a niche market of teenagers which means higher levels of sex and teenage angst because that’s their audience.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 17, 2014 at 9:54 pm #262181KebParticipantIt does sound like whatever plans she’s got will end Rumple’s existence as he knows it…but if it’s time travel, she might not be plotting his demise exactly.
The baby…she could be planning to transfer either the Dark One’s powers (under her control) to the infant, or she could be planning to BECOME the baby herself.
Since she said she wanted a do-over…
Mind you, that’s creepy too.

April 17, 2014 at 10:40 pm #262185WickedRegalParticipantCan I just say…as far as the Regina and Graham situation. I will admit that in the EF…it was borderline rape. But for Storybrooke…those 28 years were completely consensual on Graham’s part I think. He may have been cursed with no memories, but he came to Regina so he could “Hunt Apples” with her. Regina just didn’t turn him down…it wasn’t till Emma came to town that he realized he and Regina have no real love outside of the bedroom….So yeah….

April 17, 2014 at 10:53 pm #262187KebParticipantI don’t think this is really the right place for the discussion, but Welcome to Storybrooke showed us that Regina still had Graham’s heart during the curse and was using it to control his actions.
Beyond that, while Cursed!Graham may have believed he was with Regina of his own free will and she wasn’t using his heart for that, Regina had full control over everyone’s cursed personalities and situations. “Everyone in this town does what I want,” she said. There was free will once the curse started breaking–which is most of what we saw in S1–but even that was twisted by what the queen had put in place. (For example, the Charmings “cheating” on each other…they’d never have been with Whale/Kathryn without the curse, even if under the conditions of the curse they chose to be.)
So you can interpret Graham’s actions as you like, but Regina definitely had the power in the relationship and Graham’s ability to consent (or rather refuse consent) was severely limited in both worlds.

April 18, 2014 at 4:11 am #262207GrimmsisterParticipantThe whole thing with the heart and how much free will and emotions a person can have and feel is ALSO one of the blurred lines on the show. Like WickedRegal says Graham didn’t realize he didn’t feel anything for Regina before Emma came along. We have seen people with no hearts have a certain amount of free will. Graham was with Emma at the time of Regina possessing his heart, if she would have had total control of him he would not have been able too.
And I will respectfully disagree with you RG on that it was rape. I sure didn’t take it as a serious thing like that. I will go so far as agreeing that they might have been dancing on some border there, with that topic, but I think if they did it was unintentionally, rape was not what they wanted to tell with the Graham- Regina story. And I don’t feel it was the story that ended up on our screens either. Again – subjective.
As for the darkness in fairytales. Really the darkness in Once is not that bad IMO. I remember seeing “It”-the King movie as a 8 or 9 year old, now that was something dark and twisty for a kid to see. Once is just fun for kids, even with the dark aspects. They hint at scary things, like using baby parts for magic and like Z playing “house” with her doll Rumple, but they don’t show it to us in a scary way. The kids I know that watches Once, which are 8, 9 and 12 year olds, they wont be scared or scarred by these things at all they just have fun with it.

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 18, 2014 at 10:19 am #262240obisgirlParticipantI like that Regina and Snow had a moment to talk about Cora’s death and Regina admitted Cora did wrong too by killing Snow’s mom.
April 18, 2014 at 10:30 am #262243CindersParticipantI think the noise was Ghost Cora sitting in a rocking chair, rocking a baby. Regina will find something in the room that belongs to her mother, a scent, or a sense that she has been there. This will give Regina the idea to summon her mother via holding a seance.
And that was a long overdue conversation between Snow and Regina. Quite lovely and meaningful. -
