Camelot of 5 years ago—the longer flashbacks of Arthur, Lance, and Guinevere (also…someone is going to have to explain the five years thing)
I said this before on twitter, but 5 years ago without accounting for the 28-29 years FTL was frozen for during the curse. In some sense, the 5 years could explain how Roland is the age he is now. Marian was only pregnant with Roland back when Belle was first living with Rumple, so several years had to pass since then right? Robin and Roland were frozen in time just like everyone else in FTL. It’s also never been explained how much time has passed since certain events. We don’t know how long Snow was on the run as a bandit, nor do we know how long the battle to “take back the kingdom” lasted. Plus there are the 9 months of Snow’s pregnancy right before the curse. I guess they could also be accounting for the one year it’s been since the curse broke, too.
[adrotate group="5"]October 19, 2015 at 12:16 am #310274KebParticipantIt adds up reasonably on my timeline. They’re about a year and a half past when time started to move again, give or take, and Belle went to the Dark Castle about 3-4 years before the Curse (as we know thanks to Roland’s age). So 5 years + the 28 works, if you play a bit rough with the numbers.

October 19, 2015 at 12:32 am #310275WickedRegalParticipantNow I remember the one dislike I had with this episode!
Ummm….the chances of Lancelot outwitting Cora is slim to none, so I find it very unbelievable that he did so. Cora’s main killing technique is heart ripping/crushing, so how he could have outwitted her, I will never know unless she just decided to spare him. You have a better chance at outwitting Regina and Zelena, but not Cora. In the words of Regina from 2×10 The Cricket Game, “that would’ve have been sloppy”.
Unless of course he jumped off a cliff trying to escape Cora like Snow did on Regina’s guards, and survived the fall.

October 19, 2015 at 12:34 am #310276onceaholicParticipantWriting this without reading the others. I will go back and read them afterwards.
I was wrong about Guinevere being Morgana or Nimue. I still think Arthur knows exactly what is going on and has not lost his memories in present day SB.
LIKES
-Snow and Charming plot to catch Arthur in the act. It was nice to see them have something to do. Though I would like to see some character development for these two, too.
-Henry/Violet
-That the gauntlet has an explanation/use, though I wasn’t expecting one because I don’t see it as important as filling up the larger plotholes, continuity errors, and dropped threads.
-The place where the dagger was protected held some significance -Snow had her vision in there-and it wasn’t just some random jungle room.
-Arthur having a backstory that didn’t involve child abuse, it was something different-bullying. Bullying has the same effect on the brain as child abuse, so it was a realistic reason for present day Arthur to feel the need to prove himself to himself and to others, and resort to shady means to do so. Sometimes the bullied becomes the bully, even when it came from other children.
Edit: I also think we were meant to think that the bullying was continual, it wasn’t a one off incident, given the state that Arthur is in now.
DISLIKES
-Arthur using the magic sand stuff to control Guienevre.
-Not enough Regina.
-I am surprised that Emma’s way to make Rumple brave did not involve threatening to kill Belle. This would have been a more obvious choice than Merida.
-Confusion over the black goo. Is it just spare goo to protect the dagger? I thought the goo represented the Dark One darkness, and it was all inside Rumple?
-I thought it was a bit slow. Maybe it was the lack of Regina? Anyway, I usually like slow episodes that allow character development for the main characters, but seeing as their wasn’t any other than Arthur’s backstory, I was a tad bored.

October 19, 2015 at 12:37 am #310278KebParticipantOkay, some relevant dates as I haven’t really started timelining S5 yet (and please keep in mind that ALL my dates are estimates with a few exceptions):
6/18/2013: Emma becomes The Dark One.
6/7/2013: Gold’s return to Storybrooke (start of QoD arc)
4/18/2013: Belle banishes Rumple (end of Frozen arc)
4/6/2013: Emma, Hook, and “Marian”/Zelena return from the past. (End of S3/Zelena arc)
3/26/2013: Hook finds Emma in New York (end of the Missing Year)
4/1/2012: Belle & Neal visit the Dark One Vault. (In the missing year, early on)
3/26/2012: Regina undoes the curse and the missing year starts.
3/19/2012: Jolly Roger goes to Neverland to rescue Henry (end of S2)
2/23/2012: Emma breaks The Curse. (End of S1)
10/23/2011: Emma decides to stay in Storybrooke (start of S1) and time begins moving again in all the affected magical realms.
10/22/1983: Emma’s birth/The curse is enacted. Time is frozen in all the magical realms.
1/21/1983: Snow and Charming’s public wedding.
4/11/1982: Snow and Charming’s private wedding, officiated by Lancelot.
4/30/1981: Belle leaves the Dark Castle.
2/1/1981: Rumple shows Belle the gauntlet he just took from Camelot.
12/31/1980: Roland born. (I have Marian saved about a week before this.)
12/19/1980: Belle goes to the Dark Castle. So, if my date for the gauntlet is close: 2/1/1981 puts it 34 months before the curse. Since time began moving again, I have it at about 21 months now, give or take. (22 if you go to the six weeks, but that’s not when the show claimed 5 years). 55 months comes out to 4.58 years. It’s…fudging a bit, but I’ll give them 5. PLUS 28.

October 19, 2015 at 12:53 am #310281TheWatcherParticipantI’m going to do something different and give my favorite line not from the episode… But from the initial reactions podcast:
Jeremy: “So if I threw some of that dust at the show, would it write the dust out of the show?”
Let me tell you something, mister! You find that dust! You get a whole handful! And you pitch it all over this show, over every DVD, and over every writer, and every viewer you can lay your hands on! Because this show needs a lot of fixing and it seems at this point only magic mumbo jumbo dust can do that! You all let him know he wins best line from me 😛 *poofs away*

Liked:
-CS, which is extremely weird for me. The shots of them in the firld of flowers were just too beautiful. Kind of like Emma’s hair.
-Hook and Emma finding out about Hennry and Violet. Too sweet!!
-I enjoy Arthur’s level of insanity…
– “those two could outlive a cockroach” Regina’s sass is always on point
-I like that we can now start to piece together Snowing’s betrayel of Emma. It is starting to make sense.
Mixed:
-See I kind of liked the sand as a plot device, but it’s also creepy. Not sure what I thought of the whole Camelot storyline. (I stand by my statement that Camelot is a cult.)
-Merida making Rumple brave. I love the idea of getting to see Rumple fight his cowardness and become a hero. Hopefully A&E will use this to fix the fact that they butchered Rumple’s character development in 4A. I want this plotline to pull on my heart strings. Only I don’t really see how it helps the story or what Emma’s plan is. Totally confused as to why, but so excited to see Rumple struggle with this and actually become his character again.
Disliked:
-THE GAUNTLET. I am so over the existence of this thing. See Belle?? It doesn’t point to someone’s true love it points to their greatest weakness!!! I will never not be mad about the butchering of Rumple’s character last season. Rumple’s greatest weakness is his dagger. Belle should have known that. Sorry, seeing the gauntlet brought up bad memories.
-The whole Snowing thing was weird to me. Just seemed like a weird plan.
-How is Lancelot alive? Can we see that backstory?
-Random connection to young Emma visuon. That was strange.
-What even is this timeline? I am beyond confused as to how it fits in at all.
Overall this episode was messily executed, but some of the overarching plot points are really nice. I have hope for an enjoyable season.
October 19, 2015 at 8:50 am #310298FelieParticipantWithout a doubt the most boring episode I’ve seen of this show.
Dislikes:
How literally bored out of my socks I was watching the whole-
*Snow White + David drama
*Camelot and the most cliched love triangle. of. all. time.
*more boring het romance from Emma and Hook – seriously… Hook: ‘Just trust me Emma’ Me: *yawns so hard my jaw dislocates*
*Even MORE het romance, and to make it worse – they’re kids. So boring.
*Emma still being surprised by The Shiny One – why can’t she just ignore everything it says?
*Where are Merida’s brothers?Likes:
*Costumes were great
*Horse was cute
*Foreshadowing Merida’s beef with Arthur
*Merida’s hair
*I love the Scottish accentSo, in conclusion: pretty much only the last 30 seconds of the episode was good for me
"so there’s this new show….."

Yeah that was a very pretty horse.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 19, 2015 at 3:51 pm #310337The Swan PrincessParticipantIt looks like most of the people here didn’t like this episode, but I really liked it. The plot was fun and enjoyed watching it, more than I enjoyed last week’s episode at least.
Favorites:
1) I was right that Guinevere is under a spell and that’s why she was with Arthur! Their entire interactions in the last episodes lacked emotion and looked super fake, like Gwen is secretly hating him under the love, so I’m glad it’s really the case.
Also it was so weird to see Arthur so shady! It was clear that he’s a terrible person. I’m not sure if he׳s evil, because evil is more like taking over the world kind of thing. But he’s just a crappy person. I’m overwhelmed by all this shadiness but I think I liked it.
2) I liked Gwen’s and Lancelot’s journey too. It was fun and their relationship was very believable to me.
3) I liked the parts of continuity they did right. At first when I saw the weird jungle place I was like ‘omg it’s the same place from Snow’s and Charming’s visions did the writers forget it is it just a generic green screen background that they use randomly?’ And then they pleasantly surprised me by acknowledging that. I liked the the tie to the gauntlet too.
Least Favorites:
1) Are they just avoiding timeline now? WTH is that ״a long time ago” say a date! When I saw that I felt bad for Keb.
2) Seriously WHAT is OUAT’s problem with rape? Just drop the damn subject. It’s a serious matter not something that you casually drop in the script to move the plot!
3) Why was there darkness in the vault if there was a dark one?!?
4) Alright now this is something that really bothers me. In the end of the episode Emma and Hook kissed in a field full of flowers and it was very romantic, but the flowers were the ones that Arthur gave Guinevere, the ones that symbolize their crumbling relationship. Are the writers stupid? Or what? What is going on? What game are they playing?
You know what I can't continue with the dead people brought back to life list I'm out of space in the signature and now we have an underworld arc this is to much I quit why do you bring so many people back to life OUAT WHHHYYYY
