I personally don’t think any of the core cast are happy with what’s happening with their characters. Season 1 still ranks as the best season for OUAT, at least for me because the storytelling was more so focused on the character’s personal life, their history, and their growth rather than the automatic next villains, curse, and the ships.

As for the acting, well, majority of the cast are grinning and baring it right now. They will sell whatever they need to sell, so Lana gave her best in this new promo. Is it true they’ve toned down the once great and powerful Evil Queen, into the clichéd “sexy, sassy, and sinister” villainess….of course it’s true. Back in Season 1, the Evil Queen instilled fear and power, nowadays she’s throwing temper tantrums.

Now the plot is entirely moved forward by external things that happen to them, like Hyde coming to town or Gideon being kidnapped or the Evil Queen cursing Snow and Charming. The characters did choose to separate the Reginas, but the only consequence has been the Snow and Charming curse and that will be done in one episode and be forgotten. They have not used the two Reginas being separated to show us anything new about Regina as a character and where she is at characterwise. That is true of all the characters. These things happen to them and then the plot moves on and it is forgotten.

This is definetly an issue I have with the show. It’s the same sequence of events, “new villain, curse, fight, win, plot, new villain”…there’s never a time in the show where the characters digest all the hell they’ve been through, instead it’s all swept away to Forgotten Land, and never mentioned again!
