The Candy Killer saga continues with this week’s episode “Chosen.” What were your favorite and least favorite moments?
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 13, 2018 at 9:52 pm #346674AKAParticipantI liked this episode, I give it a 8.5/10
Liked:
Lana did a really good job directing, the story focused on one story line and flowed really well.
Zelena’s line I guess you can take the dark one out of the pawn shop. She does get really good one liners.
Zelena: For a character I absolutely HATED (like I did not feel any sympathy/empathy for her at all) when she first appeared, then felt completely annoyed by, eventually thought was kind of funny but still wished she was gone, I am completely surprised that I am happy she got a happy ending. I mean I was like Yeah for Zelena (never thought that would happen)
Flashback: The flashback was really interesting and completely in character with Zelena. Zelena has always been a very powerful but insecure witch who really just wants someone to love her. She always seems to get really close to doing the right thing and then one thing goes wrong and she reverts back to being wicked. This is because she is constantly looking for approval from other people (Cora, Rumple, Hades, Hansel’s father, etc.) instead of truly liking the person she is.
Present Day: I thought this story was really good also. The dialogue between Nick and Henry was good and the interactions between characters seemed spot on.
Zelena and Robyn: Zelena stating that her happiness began with Robyn I thought that was a very sweet moment, I wish Margot could really understand the importance of that statement by having her memories.
Zelena and Regina: They have come a long way from two sisters who tried to hurt each other to loving and caring about each others happiness. Regina giving Zelena permission to go and be happy was outstanding. Erin will love that Regina gave her a shout out of “We are Both”
Zelena and Rumple: I liked the fact that they did not try and brush their relationship under the rug. These two don’t like each other and with really good reasons. Still thought it was nice that Rumple decides to help even if Zelena used Belle against him to do this. Even in death Belle is being used to manipulate Rumple. I loved that Rumple is still dishing out really good advice (you need the dark piece to remind you how far you have come and what you have to loose) He has come a long way!!!!
Mixed/Disliked:
Facilier: He is so confusing, one moment I think maybe he could be good the next nope definitely a villain. Not grey but he is either black or white which is very confusing. So Facilier woke Nick up so that he would kill Gothel so he would not have competition for the dark one dagger? That would have been great but Gothel has not even mentioned the dagger yet so how do we know she wants it? Background would be good.
Rogers/Jacinda: Okay Jacinda if you were going to notice that you would have noticed it the first time you read it not after Rogers for some unknown reason asks you to reread a 10 word sentence. Very convenient for both Rogers and Jacinda.
Henry: When you are tied up by a serial killer do not argue with him!!!!! You are supposed to deescalate the situation not escalate it. Although I have to say that Nick said what we are all thinking that for the guy with the heart of the truest believer you are having a really hard time believing.

I’m just gonna say it….this ties with the Rumple & Belle Centric episode for me! Hands down, I already know this will be one of the best in the season! Lana Parrilla directed the hell out of this episode and Rebecca Mader acted her a** off! So I’m just like…..wow!
Liked:
Zelena….when we were first introduced to Zelena, I was immediately intrigued by her because I just knew….coming from the Mills Family, she was gonna be one hell of a character and I’m so glad I was right! Do I disagree with certain creative decisions made for this character, yes, but this episode was the epitome of why I rooted so hard for Zelena’s happy ending because at the end of the day, she just wanted someone to love and accept her for who she was and she finally has that with her sister, her daughter, and now her very own true love Chad!
This was the best flashback of this season half and overall best flashback for Zelena Mills period! I had no idea how they were gonna pull off Hansel & Gretel in Oz but they did it! Another round of applause for Rebecca!
Seeing Zelena do what Rumple and Regina had to do, by finding closure with her past and taking responsibility for her sins, while embracing both the light and the darkness….it really felt full circle and Rebecca Mader was so brilliant in this, like wow! And her speech towards the end with her daughter, geez, despite how she got Robyn….I gotta admit, it tugged at my heartstrings seeing how good of a mother Zelena actually became. Cora was unfortunately unable to love like a true mother should while she was alive, but Zelena and Regina truly did better despite the terrifying example they had of a mother. And I’m pretty positive Cora was smiling down on her daughters because of that.
Rumple helping Zelena out because he knew that’s what Belle would have wanted! Our Dark One has come so far everybody!!!!
Rebecca Mader and Lana Parrilla….my favorite sister duo on television for years, and you can just see that love and chemistry both on and off screen! Though I gotta admit I was disappointed at not seeing the Mills Sisters kick some a** together, they were absolutely phenomenal in that final scene and I shed a tear and choked when Regina told her “get on that bicycle and fly” because it was her way of telling her sister to go be happy for the both of them! Zelena never had that sort of encouragement, and you could see the effect it had on her when Regina said it….WickedSisters always and forever!
Mixed:
I might get disagreed with this, but you know what, screw it….I saw more chemistry with Henry & Nick in this one episode than I ever saw with Henry and Jacinda! I’m just gonna say it!
Henry Daniel Mills….you are the son of the Evil Queen, the Savior, & the grandson of the Dark One…..you mean to tell me you had no survival skills or even the slightest manipulation tactic on how to trick Nick and free yourself.
Disliked:
Still not seeing the real purpose of Dr. Facilier….

April 13, 2018 at 10:45 pm #346676TheWatcherParticipantMy biggest dislike about this episode (and idk if this happened for anyone else) is that it was interrupted by a darn sudden broadcast about Trump and Syria, etc, etc, and I was unable to see the ending.
So I’m mad -_-

April 13, 2018 at 11:12 pm #346678RumplesGirlKeymasterGENERAL: This was a decent episode; much better than the past two weeks. I was entertained and there were some decent character beats, but I still have 1000 questions and the clock is a’running out. I also think there was been zero set up for a lot of these stories (Facilier and Nick, for example)
Rating: 7.5/10
LIKED
–Those gingerbread men looked delicious; I don’t care how full you are, eat another!
–“I know who you are, Captain.” “It’s Detective.”
–The logo for the Rollin’ Bayou shirts is a lightening bug. Nice “Princess and the Frog” reference.
–“You can take the Dark One out of the pawn shop….”
–“I suppose no matter how far we come, there’s a nasty little piece we can’t lose.” “And we shouldn’t. Because it shows us how far we’ve come, and how much we have to lose.” That’s it. That should be the villain redemption thesis for all the villains. You can’t rid yourself of your darkness because it’s part of you, always; you have to reckon with it.
MIXED
–Hansel and Gretel are from Oz? Zelena’s Oz? As in Oz of Universe 1.0? How…? Why…? What…?
–Minus 5 pts for Belle being used once again as a way to manipulate Rumple. I really would have preferred that Rumple helped Zelena because no one deserves to be murdered. However, their interaction was spot on given the history between the two.
–Jack talking to Henry about how Henry made him into a hero really gives Jack some much needed color but it’s also too late. They should have lain the groundwork for this much earlier on in the season. We never got any of these grand adventures between the men. Once again, SHOW don’t TELL.
–I’m sure Kelly and Chad are sweet but it’s really hard for me to care about them as a pair when we literally just met the guy. I feel like so many of the problems of this season would have been solved if they had never tried to go with Rapunzel/Tremaine as a villain or involved at all. So much narrative space would have been freed up if we didn’t have all of that.
DISLIKED
–I really hate when flashbacks insert random characters we’ve never ever heard of and that play an important emotional beat in a main character’s backstory.
–Soooo is Zelena/Ivo pre-Hades, post-Hades? When in this messed up timeline are we??
–Facilier woke up both Nick and Drew in order to kill Gothel so he wouldn’t have to compete against her for the dagger. But when did Gothel ever mention that she wants the dagger? We need background, stat. They’ve got to stop waiting until the last second to reveal these things.
–I don’t care if you can be both, Zelena calling Regina “Roni” is strange and weird.
–The CGI of the fire wrapping around Hansel’s arms was terrible! His hands grew like 3x their normal size.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 14, 2018 at 12:24 am #346681StahlopParticipantI actually did like most of this episode. Lots of information, but also lots of that doesn’t make sense moments.
Liked:
The whole conversation between Nick and Henry. Why did Nick have to finally get interesting? I loved his whole speech about taking Henry out for his birthday and all that. Some great acting on his part.
Henry knows that Lucy is his daughter! Not that he believes it quite yet.
Regina found the moss! Can we please give the cure to Henry ASAP so he can break the curse?
Mixed:
Zelena’s whole arc. I’m glad she’s finally come to terms about how wicked she was and that she finally has someone who loves her, but now she’s leaving?
Jacinda couldn’t figure out Henry wasn’t the one sending the message? The second she said J I knew that was something he never called her.
Not that I wanted the whole Henry being kidnapped thing to drag on, but Rogers figured that out really quickly. And he saves Henry pretty quickly too.
Naveen is awake. Why? And why did Samdi need Sabine’s trust for Nick’s voodoo doll?
Disliked:
How was there an alternative Hansel, Gretel and Witch in Oz? That made absolutely no sense in any way! I can’t even think of the logistics as to how that could be possible.
Just when Nick/Jack/Hansel became interesting Samdi kills him! I really don’t like Samdi/Fascilier. He’s ruining everything.
Are we really only getting Kelly’s fiancé for one episode?
Barely and Regina in this episode and no Tilly (although, at least she was mentioned).
Maybe I disliked this episode more than I thought.
April 14, 2018 at 3:05 am #346684GaultheriaParticipantWere beignets an important thing in The Princess and the Frog? The way they keep saying it again and again and again and again, it’s as if it’s supposed to be fan service. It’s worse than Belle repeating “beast” ad infinitum — which, as a common word where I live, at least never burrowed into my mind solely as an overused catchphrase.
I’ve never had a — oh, I’m going to have to call them “Louisiana doughnuts” — and I’m not sure I could bring myself to try one now, because I’m really starting to hate that word.

Yes they were a part of Tiana’s story in the movie (she wants to open a restaurant) but I agree that their constant reference is grating.

TV Guide did a brief recap with the final moments for people who didn’t watch after Trump’s address or who didn’t have their DVR set to keep going (like yours truly who never imagined she needed to have her DVR run an extra 20 mins…)
Once Upon a Time did return after 20 minutes following Trump’s address, and Hansel did indeed have a struggle with Dr. Facilier… one that ended up being deadly for the burned witch-hunter. Facilier ended up using a voodoo doll to magically murder Hansel on the spot!
So if you missed Facilier killing Hansel, now you know!
