I hate the bizarre conversations where Zelena and Regina are calling the characters their fake names. Zelena calling her daughter by her fake name is ridiculous. They are doing that because they named the baby Robyn and it is confusing. Zelena and Regina calling Rumpel, Weaver, is stupid. It is like using Mary Margaret all over again.
The flashbacks were boring and pointless as usual.
I can’t believe that Henry is really figuring stuff out because of a blood test. Though, i guess in the end, he is still completely clueless. Hopefully, he will talk to Regina about it all. I am glad that Zelena is gone from the screentime using which i would rather they give to Rumpel, Regina, Robyn, and Alice.
Rumpel helping Zelena because that is the only way he is going to see Belle seems ridiculous. She killed his son. He doesn’t owe her anything. At least, he barely helped her by just giving her that necklace and a pep talk which really didn’t have all that much to do with the plot of this episode.
I did like the line about the little bit of evil inside that stays so that you know how far you’ve come. Of course, the villains on this show are never shown to change and make better decisions. They are just randomly rewritten at intervals. There is no growth and decision making shown on screen. They pretty much just rewrote Zelena by having her be Kelly. And excuse me while i vomit for the use of the we can be both line all again. Just stop.
Facilier is a weird character. We know he wants the dagger. Regina and him have a relationship. Prince Naveen is working with him for some reason. I can’t remember why or what he has on him that would cause Naveen to do that. Now, he just killed Hansel with some evil magic, just like that. Though, i am glad Hansel is gone. Facilier is a weird character without enough backstory to figure out. He is just there to do random evil til the end of the show.
The plots of these episodes need to be smoothed out instead of being all disconnected and disjointed. The problem always comes back to the writers lack of ability to write character with good motivations and having that drive the story. It is just a random series of unfortunate events.
[adrotate group="5"]April 14, 2018 at 12:41 pm #346690hjbauParticipantI did like the sisterly moments with Regina and Zelena. I liked the moment with Zelena and Robyn. I even liked the moment with Zelena and Chad. I just felt like Zelena’s “redemption” is just really unearned. Her asking Rumpel for help is ridiculous as a plot point. This really was just let’s rewrite Zelena. She is Kelly now. And let’s just give her a send off. That is what this was.
Also, Hansel was Henry’s friend for many years and yeah, he killed people, mostly witches who may have all be bad for all we know, and now he is just dead. Just like that. Is that going to be brought up again? Probably not. I think Henry would be upset about this. It is just a really awkward plot point.
Though, as always, my biggest issue with this episode was the writing, some of the dialogue, some of the plot points, were just like eh, alright then. The stupidity of some of the characters, especially Henry. Ella’s continued uselessness. The randomness of the some of the characters like Facilier, and being able to connect this Hansel with Henry’s friend Jack. Regardless, i do think the acting in this episode was really good and i rarely think that.
I do think that if this episode was written outside of the context of we are both, Zelena is Kelly, it would be much better. Free choice is a whole thing that is important in writing character and these writers should do more of that.
This was definitely one of the better episodes of the season, but no episode, for me, can just be taken out of the context of the terrible world building and the problems with consistency in character, their motivations and their choices. The show is bad, so everything sort of lives in the nonsense that is the show, but that isn’t exactly the individual episodes fault.
April 14, 2018 at 3:13 pm #346694JS1492ParticipantSorry if this is out of place, but didn’t Hansel say the oven caused the burns? Something about ovens cause the deepest burns? Soooooo why is Zelena suddenly the cause? Was wondering if I missed something, or just poor writing.

That’s one of the corrections Hansel made to Henry’s book in in 7×16 “Breadcrumbs”. The idea that the killer was correcting that particular story was a major clue toward identifying him. You’re right, it doesn’t fit with what we saw in 7×17.
I think we could stretch the interpretation of that line so that it just means “I really hate witches”, and that Hansel is choosing to remember his story inaccurately in a way that helps him justify his killing spree. Or maybe he’s just trying to be poetic about metaphorical flames scarring his soul; he works in the music industry, so maybe he tends to think in lyrics.
Hansel would have made a good main antagonist for this season. He’s a counterpoint to his good friend Henry, who could have been the primary protagonist. And, although I’m certainly not condoning murder of murderers, I’m glad that the show is at least acknowledging that evildoers such as the show’s witches can’t expect to avoid punishment by simply choosing to not do evil anymore. This could have given the show a depth that it’s been lacking this season.

April 14, 2018 at 10:00 pm #346696Jiminy’s JournalParticipantI had no idea how they were gonna pull off Hansel & Gretel in Oz but they did it!
–Hansel and Gretel are from Oz? Zelena’s Oz? As in Oz of Universe 1.0? How…? Why…? What…?
How was there an alternative Hansel, Gretel and Witch in Oz? That made absolutely no sense in any way! I can’t even think of the logistics as to how that could be possible.
Most likely, the gingerbread house is in Bunbury, a place in Quadling Country (southern Oz).
April 14, 2018 at 11:45 pm #346698TheWatcherParticipantI was actually hoping for a tie in to the tin man episode. It was mentioned there was a Wicked Witch Of the South. Would have been neat if it had turned out this blind witch was her.
At this point I still say they should have made it be Zelena from Wish realm or Zelena from FTL 2 to have been the one who got into with the witch, have her have been killed. (Which would explain why she doesn’t show up in present day) and just have Hansel think our Zelena was her.

Sorry if this comes up twice, but my first post seems to have disappeared.
This still doesn’t make any sense. Oz, while you have to use a portal or a cyclone to get to it, is part of the original Enchanted Forest realm. There should not be another Hansel, Gretel, father (once again no mother) and witch. We previously saw the original Enchanted Forest’s crew back in season one in the episode True North.
We know that this Hansel and Gretel belong in the Enchanted Forest 2.0 because they have interacted with characters from there. Hansel/Jack with Henry and Gretel with Gothel and Drizella.
I thought at one point the witch had somehow transported her house from Enchanted Forest 2.0 to Oz (or possibly with a cyclone) with Hansel and Gretel in it, but then Zelena ran into their father living in the woods so that squashed that theory.
The truth is that there is no possible way an alternate Hansel and Gretel story should be taking place in Oz and the writers messed up.

Basically all of this.
