Well, here we are.
7 seasons, 155 episodes….the series finale of Once Upon a Time.
One more time, shall we? What were your favorite and least favorite moments of “Leaving Storybrooke”?
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 18, 2018 at 9:00 pm #347420RumplesGirlKeymasterI keep saying this, I know, but I honestly can’t believe this is the last one of these I am going to do…
GENERAL: I don’t have a lot to say, honestly. My thoughts are all below. Right now I’m nostalgic and I’m sad and I’m happy and a lot more. I can’t believe it’s over…
Rating: 9.5/10
LIKED
–8:15 on the clock. One more time.
–According to Alice: Seattle has great coffee and too much rain.
–“Intruders!!” LOL; glad Granny had her crossbow ready
–Jared Gilmore has come so far. He did such a great job as a bitter and menacing teenager heartbroken over the death of his grandparents and his mother abandoning him.
–“Is this a dream?” “Well, if it is, it’s an excellent one.” I never really shipped Outlaw Queen but that was a gorgeous segment.
–First big cry of the night: Snow and Charming taking off their masks. I have missed them so much.
–Snow gets one final giant almost cringe worthy hope speech!
–Second big cry of the night: “If this is how I have to go out, showing you there are people in the world who love you, no matter what you do…then that’s a worthy end for me.”
–“I am the strongest version of us….you don’t do the right thing for a reward. You do it because it’s the right thing to do.” It’s been a long road but I’ll always be Rumple’s girl. Goodbye, my Imp.
MIXED
–The snowglobe is bigger on the inside!
–The idea that there’s a book for every hero in every realm ever is very interesting. It’s the kind of idea that deserves more than a fly by plot in the series finale. It has legs, it should have been given room to grow.
–“Because you were the closet thing I ever had to a friend.” I wish we had more of Nook, Rumple and Alice. Again, too much narrative bloat in this season and the writers missed what would have been far more interesting.
–I’ll never not love a good dreamcatcher on this show, but I really wish Rumple would remember that he has a dead son he wants to see again; dreamcatchers will always be tied to Neal (and Emma) so that was a perfect time to throw in a Neal reference.
–Using the Dark Curse and pieces of everyone’s heart to bring all the realms to Storybrooke is…extremely meta and weird and I both hate it and love it?
DISLIKED
–The pen stripped Rumple of his immortality? How is that even possible? Magical MacGuffin for the win, one more time!
–So Wish Realm Rumple’s plan to send all the heroes into their own realm, by themselves? Gosh that’s a lot of portals and realms.
–Is anyone else bothered that this castle has a giant ball room that one has one thing to sit on. Like, what is the purpose of this room?
–Who are these other two random black knights rolling the books around? How are they on the family’s side? Are the magicked?
–The afterlife sure is foggy!
–“Some time later…” One more time!
–Lily’s father was Zorro! The writers are evil people who threw that in there just to make us all shut up. Well played, Adam and Eddy. Well played.

It was magical and a perfect ending….
Liked:
Robyn & Alice….the best ship of Season 7!!! Hands down!!!
The Parallel of Evil Henry & Evil Queen….the apple really didn’t fall too far from the tree and I loved seeing what a potential “Evil King” Henry would be like! Seeing Regina pull her son from the same darkness and road to vengeance that she herself was on for so long, one of the greatest moments of not only the season but the series!!!
They did not have to ruin my feels like this….Robin Hood and Regina together again, even in a dream is so beautiful and makes me so freaking emotional!! That red feather…hope….I’m emotional!!
Rumple’s big plan of trapping every hero in a storybook…okay…I gotta admit that’s new!
Snowing….I never would’ve thought I’d miss them but Season 7 needed more of the original cast!
That Round Table Speech….feels like Classic OUAT!!! Snow and her hope speech…ever a classic!
Rumple’s progress….it’s so beautiful to see!!!
Regina’s one last goodbye to Rumple!!! IM IN TEARS!!!
All the realms united, the Good Queen, and One Happy Beginning…..Thank You OUAT!
Disliked:
I was SOOO close to that Zorro/Regina Ship!!! LOL!!!! Literally, that close guys!!

May 18, 2018 at 9:21 pm #347426AKAParticipantAfter all these years and after the last 12 episodes I thought I would be relieved it was over but I just feel sad. No matter what the show had become, no mater what I disagreed with or how much I hated the writers at times I will miss Once Upon a Time. I give this a 8.5/10. All in all looking back to this season I wish they had ended it last season that finale was much better than this one.
Liked:
The opening scene with Alice/Robyn versus the town was hilarious and a great start for the finale. I will miss Grumpy, Pongo, Granny, and Archie they were some of my favorite characters and I always wished they had done more with their stories
Regina convincing Henry that he was loved and that she loved him no matter what he did in any version (that is unconditional love guys and it is how a mom should be!)
Rumple sacrificing himself yet again to save everyone and especially Nook. His you do the right thing because it is right and not because of the reward was so incredibly powerful. Although I don’t understand why everyone thought that if he sacrificed himself to save Nook and everyone else that meant he wouldn’t find Belle?
Regina being crowned queen of all the lands, Regina deserves a happy ending of all the villains she was the one with the biggest and most earned redemption.
Regina and Robin scene was sweet and I think a good wink at Outlaw Queen Fans
Mixed/Disliked:
GIVE ME A THROW AWAY LINE!!!!!!!! You can’t get the actor or any of the actors that played Bae, fine have Belle say come on your son is waiting for you. I am SO DISAPPOINTED that they did not do this. The entire story started with Rumple and Bae it should have ended there!
I totally did not understand why Rumple thought he was not going to get to Belle (AND BAE) now that he was mortal? Did Wish Rumple do something that would prevent that? Also I hate how they just poofed answers to huge questions. Why is Rumple mortal because Wish Rumple somehow made that happen?

Not only that, maybe covering a few square miles of Maine at best like Disneyland (likely not a coincidence). Just how big (small?) ARE the realms, anyway? Also, how the heck does Immigration handle that? Are Alice and Robin DREAMers now? Does the Happy Curse grant everyone citizenship or just visas? Is Tiana still a queen regent or is she like a suzerain of Regina? I’m really thrown off by how the politics integrates.
Most favorite – The end of Rumple. Not one second of that explanation made any CENSORED sense relative to any explanation of how the Dark One powers work prior to this episode, but fine. Whatever. The writers painted themselves into a corner and decided to parkour off the walls to get out. Close enough. I enjoy self-destructing villains enough to look past the internal logic problems. (My favorite moment of the whole series is still Rumple’s.. um.. let’s say “pointed reunion” with Pan at the end of 3A)
May 18, 2018 at 10:44 pm #347451bibliophileParticipantHonestly I was underwhelmed by that finale. It focused way to much on Regina for starters and it all just felt flat to me.
LIKED
The opening where Alice and Robin were chased out by some of our beloved background characters (background after season one/two anyway).
The Lily’s father question is finally answered in the most random way possible!
Hook’s pink hook-stopper (or whatever you’d call it) was cute.
I enjoyed watching shady Blue Fairy (Wish Blue?) get sucked into a black hole.
Cinderella and Lucy had practically no lines!
MURKY
It was actually kind of sweet when Rumple called Nook his best friend (after Nook asked why he’d never killed him… um cause you ain’t his real nemesis Mr. Nooky not Hooky). Yet more sadness for Rumple that his ‘best friend’ is a guy created by a wish who mainly spent time with him while he was cursed.
The uniting of all the lands. Ok fine whatever.
DISLIKED
Not enough Emma. Too much Regina.
As usual far too much hand waving over important plot points like how Rumple is suddenly mortal.
Beating Wumple was too shabbily explained. Plus we didn’t get nearly enough of him for my taste or enough of our Rumple either.
No Bae in the ‘afterlife’! All we got was a quick flash of him dead to rub it in once last time.
No Henry and Rumple family scene. There were two Rumples and at least two Henrys running around and not once did we hear him call Rumple Grandpa that I heard. I think he looked sort of sad when he died. I guess that’s something.
May 18, 2018 at 11:10 pm #347457StahlopParticipantAfter liking the last three episodes a lot, I was really hoping for something spectacular this time. But the season 6 finale was so much better.
Liked:
Alice and Robin’s opening scene with Grumpy and Granny. Alice is hilarious.
Robin asking Nook for Alice’s hand in marriage. I really wish we’d ended on that wedding instead of Regina’s coronation.
Getting to see Snow, Charming, Emma, and real Hook again. And another Snow hope speech.
Rumple’s sacrifice and his being reunited with Belle. I’ve never been a Rumbelle shipper, but that was sweet and made me tear up.
Robin returning to Regina in a dream. I’m glad we didn’t see Wish Robin with reformed Evil Queen. I think that would’ve broken Regina’s heart.
Regina’s almost sacrifice with Henry. This season has been very Regina heavy and that was a great parallel to Emma’s sacrifice last season.
Baby Hope! I always wondered why Snow and Charming didn’t name Emma, Hope, so I’m glad Emma and Killian decided to do it.
We got to see kid Neal and Robin! They finally aren’t babies anymore!
Very little Jacinda and Lucy.
Mixed:
Nook is the closest thing to Rumple’s best friend? What is Regina, chopped liver? She’s been through a heck of a lot more with Rumple, good and bad, than Nook has.
So, the Zelena from the point on is 2018 Zelena? We don’t get to see cursed Zelena’s wedding? Is she still in CA or does she get to come over into the new Storybrooke?
I get that Regina was the focus to get Henry to believe again, but would’ve seeing Emma, Snow, and Charming have worked as well?
Disliked:
The marrying of the realms was just too much for me. I found it absolutely ridiculous. And the ‘curse’ to get them there, puh-lease. And did anyone care to ask the people in the other realms if this was something they wanted? I don’t know if I can roll my eyes any harder?
Why does Wish Rumple die of our Rumple dies? I don’t understand the mechanics of this. They should be completely separate entities. I was all for the Wish Realm being basically a Sliders type alternate reality that existed and was only discovered through the Wish, but now they’re apparently connected and nothing about it made sense.
So Wish Rumple’s whole plan was basically to isolate everyone in their own storybook? Would that be each version of the character, or just the ones he had personal contact with. Because when I saw the book with Cinderella’s name, I automatically thought of Ashley/Cinderella and not Jacinda/Ella.
I honestly don’t buy the whole Regina was elected to become Queen of all the Realms. How is this a thing?
Too little of Emma and Hook. I liked the parallel of Emma interrupting the coronation like Regina did to the Charming’s wedding, but it was very cheesy. And Emma’s dress fit her so poorly that I was distracted by it the whole time.
I am sad this is the last episode, but I’m also glad it finally ended because this season wasn’t handled very well. I’m glad everyone got a happy ending of some sort.
May 18, 2018 at 11:12 pm #347459RumplesGirlKeymasterNot enough Emma. Too much Regina.
That’s out of the writers hands, though. If JMo told them she’d come back for one day of filming–and one day only–it doesn’t actually amount to much in TV time. Josh and Ginny filmed for two or three days and it was still only two full scenes for them.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 18, 2018 at 11:31 pm #347465hjbauParticipantRegina and Robin were never epic; they were just boring. No version of Hook and Rumpel have ever been any sort of friend. I cannot believe they mentioned Lily’s father in passing. That was ridiculous.
Regina killed Henry’s version of Snow and Charming and stole our Emma, who is his mother, nothing she says should make that better. It was stupid that Henry was walking around with two swords. Just why. That conversation with fake Henry and Regina was not enough and did not work for me. There is no explanation for why he would be treating this Regina as his mother. He was just because. This was almost as bad as when our Henry said she’s my mom in Episode 201.
The war room scene was just bizarre without Emma in it. It was also weird for them to have Snow and Charming finally take the lead and for them to be talking all old school like they did in Season 1, but haven’t done in years. The big speech was awkward and just annoying for me at this point.
A scene where a parent was holding onto his child and saying he would never let them go, in this case fake Hook and Alice, only made me think of how a scene like that with Bae saying he would never let go of his son, while Rumpel watched would have made so much more sense.
Rumpel being upset that he lost his mortality, which just happened randomly out of nowhere did not make sense. Rumpel has been trying to get rid of his mortality for years. At least Rumpel realized that you do what is right because it is right at the end, even if this whole show was written with the characters doing right to get something out of it. Rumpel giving his heart to a man, so that he could be with his child again would have made so much more sense with Bae and Henry.
The whole all the realms being connected to Storybrooke should have happened at the end of Season 3. Too little too late. Though the heart thing was a stupid way of doing it.
The whole ball thing was bizarre. Emma’s weird arrival was bizarre. At least, Regina wanted Emma to be there. What is the explanation for where the Regina that was in Storybrooke is at? How does Henry leave and meet Ella if they have changed everything? How is baby Neal that age? Our Emma is actually young Henry’s mother because her character is both our Emma and wish Emma because there was never a second Emma? Are there three Henry’s and three Reginas and another Rumpel in town? There is just no explanation for any of this and the plot is just completely incoherent in every way. I cannot believe how bad that all was. It was worse then i ever thought they would do.
Regina’s “redemption” has never worked for me. The rewriting of her character in Season 2 was the first major flaw in this show. They rewrote her again in Season 3 and i actually really like the Regina that they write now, but it is inconsistent and her arc is completely unearned. It makes no sense that she would be the queen of anything. Emma is the leader and has always been the leader.
I am not a fan of Rumpel, but his character arc was the most coherent in the show. It wasn’t perfect, but at least you can see his growth and feel the connection to how his character used to be. That was the only thing reasonable about this episode. That and i liked that they showed a dream catcher even though they failed to mention Bae in the afterlife.
