She was in jail for 11 months. He could be someone in the bail bond business, a guy she strung along as a friend who moved on, or she could be in didguise with Cora’d potion (OUAT polyjuice if you know harry potter), like peasant Regina. So maybe it is not someone from her life at all.

November 23, 2013 at 7:57 pm #226091CrownedWithLaurelsParticipantFrom everything I’ve read (an interview saying Emma chose her own last name- don’t remember how old it is, but if anyone remembers the reference in the article and I’ve got it wrong, please let me know…) and JMo’s tweet about Swan being her first foster family’s last name, I’ve arrived at the conclusion that Emma chose to use the last name of her first foster family. Looking for the article so I can link it here….

November 23, 2013 at 10:11 pm #226102PheeParticipantI wonder if Emma was viewed a bit as a scary child, like in a Stephen King novel? Did her magic freak out potential parents?
Saw a comment somewhere recently where someone wondered if the lights would flicker every time LittleEmma got overly emotional, and if so, how it must have freaked people out.
Did she run at some point thinking a family would not want her but they did?
That would be interesting!
There was somethin in the newspaper about her criminal past but we could not quite see it, just tragic set of events if anyone remembers.
Think it was an incident in MA? *googling*
Records show that when she was merely a girl of seventeen, Emma Swan found herself, ironically, on the wrong side of the law. She was visiting friends of her foster parents in the town of Worcester, Massachusetts, it would prove to be a trip that would earn her a juvenile criminal record.
On the evening of June 16th, 1996, Swan—
If that newspaper article is an actual storyline they’re gonna stick with, it has to have happened right before she fled clear across the country and met Neal.Endless possibilities and months to speculate.
Here’s hoping our sanity hangs in there that long.
I think the random guy could be a former one night stand that has connexions that Emma wishes to use. She dresses up nice to meet him, they exchange “great to see you” Emma tries to be perhaps a little flirty and exploit their history together and the guy turns around and says he can’t help Emma and that he’s moved on with his life, and that it was great to see Emma again. He kisses her then leaves.
I could see that working for 312, but not sure it could turn into a recurring role, which this guy apparently has the potential to be?
Regina would have had to be talking about addresses Emma had since she was 18.
Yep, she says, “It’s the number of addresses you’ve had in the last decade.” So she’s lived in 7 places since getting out of jail.

Thought I remembered comments like that as well, but buggered if I remember exactly where/when it was said. At least I know I’m not delusional though, if someone else remembers them as well.
November 23, 2013 at 10:37 pm #226106kfchimeraParticipantThanks Phee about the article! If they dig into that article ‘s plot, there’s a lot there they could work with into a story.
For example, maybe the friends of her foster parents were not good people, and she caught them trying to hurt a kid, and she stood up for him, but that got her in trouble. So that is why she fled across country.

November 23, 2013 at 11:38 pm #226113RumplesGirlKeymasterSo then if we try to timeline Emma’s movements like HappyEndings was doing:
1) Boston (baby and foster care)
2) Worcester, MA (near Boston)
3) Portland, OR
4) Phoenix, AZ
5) Tallahassee, FL
6) ??
7) Back to Boston?

2) Three years with a family who probably lived somewhere in MA.
3) Anyone’s guess as to how many more foster homes she went through.
4) The Worcester family.
5) Hitchhiked to Portland.
6) Lived on the streets, and in a yellow Bug, in Portland.
7) Jail time in Phoenix.
8) Probably went to Tallahassee right out of jail.
9) Second mystery address in the past decade.
10) Third mystery address in the past decade.
11) Fourth mystery address in the past decade.
12) Fifth mystery address in the past decade.
13) Sixth mystery address in the past decade.
14) Seventh address in the past decade = Boston.
15) SB

4) The Worcester family.
Chances are Emma went through a lot of foster homes by the way she speaks about it.
What if Mystery Man was part of the family in Worceser?

(The convo on Twitter was sparked by this speculative TVLine article: http://tvline.com/2013/11/22/once-upon-a-time-season-3-cast-christopher-gorham/ )
November 27, 2013 at 7:51 am #226622RumplesGirlKeymasterHmmmm.
We will have to wait and see but I just don’t get how it could be adult Henry.
