When Emma has been avoiding rapport with August’s outlook, he has taunted her with mild sarcasm:
1×10 7:15AM
— “I wonder what kind of hell I would have raised if I’d ordered a donut?”
— “Is it illegal to carry around a box in these parts?”1×13 What Happened to Frederick?
— “That’s what ‘hop on’ means!”
— “How about you stop having to control everything and take a leap of faith?”
— “Well Miss Skeptic, there’s one thing I can tell you for sure that requires no leap of faith and I know you’ll agree with me”[adrotate group="5"]April 13, 2012 at 5:30 pm #142057phredParticipantLicense plate from Kansas – he could be Sam, Dean or John Winchester from Supernatural ;). Just kidding. BTW, Walt Disney is NOT from Kansas. He was born in Illinois. However he started his work in the KC area.
He says he doesn’t lie – no, he said he “always tells the truth”. Truth could be figurative in a writer’s way.
He is a writer – he might not be a writer in the classic sense
He has a typewriter – ruse and nothing more
Something happened with his legs that he called ‘shin splints’ – they might not be splints, he could have been covering up whatever the leg issue is
He knew what the source of the well is – no, he merely suggested it with a quote about water travelling between lands, but, umm, yeah
He knew about Henry’s book – that’s because he is Henry
He obtained and appears to have edited the book – we don’t whether it was edited/added to/subtracted from. Could be he’s just trying to help younger Henry
He spoke about travelling to Nepal and of prayer temples being overrun with lemurs – not what a person who never lies would say, right? He therefore can’t be Pinoccio – unless he was just testing to see if Red had any knowledge of the outside world – OR – was testing to see if his own nose would grow in SB (risky)
He was not transported to SB with everyone else – drove into town on his bike. True dat – but why? He can obviously come & go. He’s Henry!
Regina said he seems familiar to her – because he’s grown-up Henry. She did say he only “seems” familiar to her.Just my two cents worth – don’t trust the show’s writers about AWB not being Henry – they could be lying, or covering up, or simply twisting the truth – as August could also be 😈

April 13, 2012 at 6:13 pm #142064angiebelleParticipantIt’s not that August doesn’t lie- it’s that he keeps insisting on it. “I always tell the truth.” “I never lie.” He says it again and again. He gets very defensive on the issue.
August is telling stories about lemurs in Nepal. Pinocchio is known for telling tall tales. He *does* lie.
This is not a time travel show, so August as a grown up Henry doesn’t fit into the conventions set up by the writers.
April 13, 2012 at 6:16 pm #142065goldieParticipantYou put into words my thoughts exactly. I think he is Bae, but maybe Pinocchio… I’m on the fence. Either way, it’s all gonna be good!
April 13, 2012 at 6:47 pm #142066goonieenvyParticipantAm I the only one that wonders if there is a connection to August’s “shin splints” and Mr. Gold’s limp? I don’t remember Rumple ever using a cane.
April 13, 2012 at 7:00 pm #142067weebeastieParticipantOk, I’m going to take this from a slightly more obscure angle. The story August added to the storybook was “The Golden Bird.” It is a story of three brothers being sent on a journey by their father to find and kill the golden bird (it was being a nuisance in his garden.) The youngest was the only one to return successful. The other two getting into trouble with women and wine at a tavern. He also seems to have an affinity for water (ordering water at Granny’s, the visit to the well.) There is a very similar folktale called “The Water of Life,” in which a king is dying and the only thing that will save him is the water of life, so he sends his three sons to find it. Again, it is only the youngest who returns and saves his father.
I don’t know if this has any bearing on who August is,or even the story as a whole, but I thought it was quite interesting. Could just be a red herring for us folklore nerds 😆
April 14, 2012 at 1:05 am #142091dorothyParticipantWatch-that’s probably going to turn out to be August’s real identity and the writers are going to laugh themselves silly at all the other theories people put out there. But they did say that someone got it right.. 🙂
April 14, 2012 at 2:29 am #142112surayyaParticipantNot sure where the August & only drinking water thing really comes from as the 1st 2 times he’s in the diner he’s drinking coffee (he mentions this fact both times, so we know he is actually drinking coffee)- he only orders water once at grannys & drinks it once at the well with Emma.
The EPs have stated August is Not the writer of the book nor future Henry, so those 2 options are totally off the table 😉 & leaves only Bae, Pino, PP or Grimm (type) Brother/decedent as they openly said at Paleyfest (I think it was), that one of the guesses mentioned then was correct, but wouldnt say which- its only recently that they’ve vetoed the 2 options above (I dont think PP is an option unless they have managed to get ‘rights’ to use it without it being leaked or the many private eyes aka ‘FANS’ finding it out lol).
April 14, 2012 at 2:31 am #142115hjbauParticipantI am going back in forth between he is Bae and he is connected to the Wizard of Oz story somehow.
