Ok my theory is Dr. Whale is Granny’s grandfather….it sounds crazy but wait. First we know at least some magical creatures in fairytale land do not age i.e. Regina, Jimminy Cricket, the drawves. Ok so lets just say that Dr. Whale as a werewolf doesn’t age then you ask why didnt granny stay young. I think this could be because she had some type of Hood or perhaps even the hood ruby used. This kept her human but let her age naturally. We know that Dr. Whale seems to have some knowledge of wolves and he seems very interested in Ruby. Wolfs are pack animals and perhaps he wants to add her to his pack.

Hmmm this is an interesting idea. But we know that everyone in SB stopped aging until Emma came. So I don’t think it would make sense for him to be her grandfather. Dr Whale was flitting with Red in the latest episode, and I definitely don’t think it was just a random creepy scene. Everything has significance. Maybe he is related in a different way…. like we never saw the huntsman who killed the wolf in the original story.

It would be majorly disturbing if Dr. Whale is Red’s great-great-grandfather and hitting on her outside and staring at her lecherously while on a date with Mary Margaret. Gross!

I agree. I don’t think Dr. Whale is Red’s grandfather.

Maybe he’s the wolf from the 3 little bigs. There are different wolves from different fairytales and they were referenced in this episode.

If Dr. Whale fits into the Pinocchio story, he might be Lorenzini, of Pleasure Island, where lost boys are turned into Donkeys by the cursed waters. In the original Pinocchio story, Lorenzini was turned into an awful leviathan aka The Terrible Dogfish – or the whale, Monstro in the Disney universe. Like Jiminy Cricket, he reverted to his human form in Storybrooke.
