Hmm he could indeed be Ursula’s minion, however there was never any sidekick/s (for lack of a better term lol ) in the old fairy tail- however that hasnt stopped the writers from changing it up on us before now lol.
In fact I was really surprised, as in the Original (HCA) The Little Mermaid becomes (an angle?) kind of wind being, otherwise she would have become sea foam when her prince did not in fact marry her & so she doesnt get her prince, but an immortal soul (after 3 yrs of gliding about) instead, which was from deciding not to kill her prince- it sure isnt Disney o.O lol
I was like wow, harsh kids tale lol – Kill your prince or lose your immortal soul- nice lol
Another thought I had was the commentator at the beginning of every ep, says “Story Book” characters have been cursed – rather than fairy tale characters – maybe he’s Nemo or Ahab, its a stretch but I cant think of any other ‘large’ fish or Whales popping up in any other fairy tales other than pino (a large fish or whale is in both Disney & the Brothers Grimm tales, so its more likely for what we’ve seen of the writing so far that this will be part of who Dr Whale is, maybe he’s the generalized ‘EQ’s’ sidekick & so encompasses many of them, as opposed to just a single one). He seems to do Regina’s bidding anyway despite being a Dr & at least believing he’s taken the Hippocratic oath.

Really BAD mental image of Ruby/ Whale (they would never do that to us!!!!)- someone pass a hot branding iron so I can sear that outta my brain lol
This is not just that but an observation too……Every person in Storybrooke has day to day or meet and interact with each other also appear together in FTL. Snow’s story has Charming, Regina, Rumple, Grumpy Cinderella etc. so their Storybrooke counterparts also have a relationship of some sort. Dr. Whale not has interacted with MMB but seems to have had a 1 night stand, was David’s doctor and is under Regina’s thumb. The conclusion that I am coming to is that he must fit into Snow’s story or Regina’s story. There is still more to tell of Regina’s FTL story and I cannot see Snow having any other guy in FTL exept Charming. Red seems to also fit into this part of the puzzle of who Dr. Whale is. It is possible he is part of the Little Mermaid story and somehow Snow, Charming and company fit into the story. Cinderella and Snow did meet in FTL so maybe Snow and Ariel are friends too.

However you have a good point that he is working for Ragina so it probably isn’t that simple.
Now Ursula had Flotsom and Jetsom, her two eels as her side kicks ensuring Ariel and Eric didn’t kiss in the boat in the Disney version of The Little Mermaid, but I doubt Whale is an eel, lol.
He seems to be a mystery…We don’t know who Dr. Whale is or who Pinnochio is either. We know only what they have told us about them which is nothing. They have not even suggested anything either. Dr. Whale may well be the ultimate red herring of them all…just a guy with that name or something that is totally unrelated to the name which of course will get some people annoyed but hey that is how they will write it and we can only guess and right now at nothing.
I wonder if Dr. Whale is going to attack Ruby after she remembers and she is going to go wolf and kill him.
I am going to go on the theory that if the characters interact in FTL they will interact inact in Storybrooke. Rumple has not interacted with each other in FTL or Storybrooke, even though they were seen together in Granny’s when Emma was checking in but the two had no words to each other. Whale has had a relationship if you can call it that with MM, he was seen talking to Red, he was David’d doctor, he said something the Kathryn and he is definitely a minion of Regina. His FTL counterpart I believe has association with those Storybrooke character’s FTL’s counterparts.
Actually charming we’ve already been told we will indeed find out exactly who Dr whale is next season.
TBH Im thinking because he is well featured (more so than Leroy/Grumpy) he must be a character of some significance in moving a story forward, as we havent seen the ‘stories’ of any other extras ie EQ soldiers, SW & PC soldiers, We dont even see the SB Fairies/nuns for more than just the one ep etc yet Whale has popped up in a number of eps just as Graham/The Huntsman did.
