ParticipantWe should make a list of all these clues, and you’ll see that all your theories are not that cracked.
How about how it’s a total 180 from the story of the first two seasons?
To hear it told on the Internet, it’s always been about CaptainSwan, no? The Epic love story of Emma and her pirate? =vomits=

KeymasterThe thing that’s stuck in my brain about the second chances thing is that it was stated blatantly in this ep. The phrase from Neal’s promo poster was stated blatantly as a theme for the central storyline in S3B. They knew when they made those promo posters what the themes of each half season would be, (A&E likely pitched S3A as being about belief and S3B being about second chances). We all said his hand was in his pocket because of the swan pendant, and whaddya know, in S3B he pulled the swan pendant out of his pocket. And now his slogan is being used as one of the show’s big themes. I’m not necessarily sayin’, but I’m just sayin’, maybe Zelena will achieve her second chance at life, and a by product of whatever she does will be Neal getting a second chance at life too. I mean, it’d actually fit quite nicely, thematically speaking. (If they don’t bring him back then obviously the poster is just a sick joke, but I’m just sayin’.)

I’m trying not to get my hopes up.

Yeah, pretty much, now im even starting to think if the reason why they show 305 and 311 before 312 means that in this season will show cs as a thing on the end of the season.

ParticipantWhile Neal getting his second chance would be a good way to redeem the message of the story, I still feel like it would be extremely contrived. The mark of a good story is not to be sensationalistic for the sake of shock-value. To me, the mark of a truly excellent story would be to have Neal’s ending be truly meaningful. The more natural completion of Neal’s story arc would have been to die in 2×21, having given up his life so that Henry would’ve have to grow up like he and Emma did. That to me would have been a just end. This ending where Neal made the same mistake as his father, by rashly saying to **** with consequences, is to vilify an otherwise noble character. Neal’s demise was self-inflicted, though of course manipulated by Zelena, and seemed uncharacteristic since Neal was Baelfire and knew better than anyone the steep price of dark magic. Neal grew up alone, without a father, all because of Rumple’s mistakes. The sins of the father fell upon the son, which is unfair. That is the message that 3×15 send, life is cruel, and then you die. That is my rather longwinded way of saying that even if the writers reverse history and bring back Baelfire, it still comes across as shoddy writing.
Oh I totally agree, IF they did bring Neal back, and if SF ended up getting their happily ever after (because let’s face it, IF Neal comes back, SF will be inevitable and invincible, if it proves that Adam wasn’t talking out of his arse the other day when he tweeted that Neal did deserve a happy ending, they emphasised in 315 that that happy ending = Tallahassee, and Tallahassee is something that neither one of them could truly find with anyone else, because it was THEIR dream), then I still never intend to re-watch the scene where he used the key, or the scene where he died, because it was a pile of OOC crap that I wouldn’t endorse even if they undid it. I’m just saying that as the story stands right now, with what we’ve been given, I can see how it could play out to a story arc conclusion that does eventually make sense thematically if they bring him back. I’d much rather have NOT taken this contrived path of character assassination in order to get there, even if they did ultimately end up together.

KeymasterThe second chance line from last night did make me sit up and take notice. But I’m reserving hope until I see more.

ParticipantInteresting theories everyone but I refuse to get my hopes up about anything with this show. I just don’t trust the writers at all after some of the other stuff that’s happened or been retconned in the past.
Rant: It would not surprise me at ALL for ABC to have royally screwed up with their NL and Oz promotions. That second chances poster for Neal still irks me to this day after how things went down in last week’s ep. Remember that this IS ABC we’re talking about who routinely make stupid mistakes on social media, with press releases, and with their promos. I’m prepared for those to never be explained and for A&E to brush them aside like they do whenever anyone asks about promotional stuff. This show has made me more cynical than I have ever been about anything. 🙁
One of my longtime friends and I have been trying to have OUAT conversations via Twitter since last weekend and seriously, it is insanely hard to talk about anything with this show via Twitter. I may have to send her a message via Facebook explaining my feelings because I just can’t get through to her that Neal’s death and my disillusion with the show have NOTHING to do with shipping. She seems to think I’m just upset about SF not happening but that’s not my biggest issue at all. She doesn’t really ship anything so there’s no bias on that front but she really doesn’t understand why I’ve been so upset about the show. I guess I’ll be writing a long winded message to her later tonight….I should probably warn her that this is coming, LOL 😉
BTW-Thanks for all the continued good thoughts and prayers for my cousin. No news today which is fine with me because right now, no news = good news. 🙂

But I don’t want Bae back. The whole August thing was annoying. He lost all his memories and ceased to exist. His body/DNA was there, but it wasn’t August. I want Neal back.

As I wrote in a different thread, I’m not so sure about how I feel about history being reversed. Would Neal even exist in such an alternate universe? Again, I’m not so sure. If the writers do go down this road, then I think Baelfire would exist, but not Neal, his created persona. The question then, for me, would be if Baelfire remained a kid in Neverland. Maybe Dylan Schmid would join the cast then or at least be a recurring guest star. Maybe “Neal” would exist as Baelfire still, but separately in A Land Without Magic, except he wouldn’ve have ever met Emma and Henry wouldn’t exist. That would be so sad. I’m not so sure how I’d feel about such a turn of events. As much as I enjoyed the character of Neal, that would feel quite contrived to me.

I think if they go down this path, there will be some magical loop hole so that Bealfire/Neal never exists.

Even though I’ve learned not to trust A&E, I still don’t think they would totally erase Baelfire. I think Rumplestiltksin would still be the dark one and still be motivated to get to his son. Doesn’t Zelena want to be the new Regina? Well to do that, Zelena would have to change history sufficiently so that Rumple would choose her, Zelena to cast the dark curse. For that to happen though, Rumple would still have to have motivation. So Zelena couldn’t totally erase Rumple’s son if her end goal is to replace Regina.
