KeymasterI would like to take the opportunity to say I miss Bae and more importantly I miss who Emma as a character was before Bae’s death.
I’m at the point with this show where I would gladly suffer CS and those horrible morals/tropes I see if it just meant I had Nealfire back. Like give me Neal, Rumple, Henry as a little unit trying to heal all the abandonment issues and CS can go do whatever they want because that’s how bad I feel Emma’s character has gotten over the past few years.

Go back about…hmmm…a page or two? There was a con. Things happened.
Although I will point out that Emma was right there for Zelena in this episode and ensured her that Robin would be taken care of like family.
I would agree with this except the way it was worded from Emma and Regina was super weird. “She’s one of us.” So if she wasn’t would they not take care of her?? It’s one of those times when the writers really need a human–any human–sitting there in the room going “do not do this thing. it’s stupid”

ParticipantThis is a very interesting read from Kiki (a favorite analyst long absent from our threads) that I figured some might like to read given some recent spoilers.
That is some very interesting history about the Prince and Princess of Monaco. Indeed, why would OUAT and JMo want to parallel Emma and Hook to Grace and her terrible, controlling husband? I know: for the “romance” of it all. *sigh*
I would like to take the opportunity to say I miss Bae and more importantly I miss who Emma as a character was before Bae’s death. I think the show has done a horrendous job with her and with his death. Season 1-3 Emma was tough, fair, and good. Season 4-6 Emma is weak, self centered, and boring.
Me too! Remember how Emma used to be presented both in universe and in S2 promo photos? Because I do.

She used to be more her father’s daughter, preferring her father’s swords to her mother’s froo-froo princess dresses.

Even when she was depicted in Snow White’s dress in a promo photo for S3, Emma had an expression on her face which showed she clearly wasn’t happy about being forced to wear the purple satin dress.

How can people think Emma is acting IN character when she so clearly is acting OUT of character?

It’s like Screwball Ninja keeps reminding us: Emma was the knight.

ParticipantAgreed. Emma looks like Emma in the season 2 promo pics, not so much in the season 3 promo pics.

KeymasterI miss the Emma Swan who took a chain saw to Regina’s apple tree.

ParticipantIt is just so out of character. I always thought that Emma would just get married just in her street clothes like Snow and Charming did in the forest with just Lancelot and his mom there. Obviously Emma marrying Hook is out of character as well, but the way the wedding is also out of character. It seems out of character for Snow too who seems to be coming up with these ideas. I mean think of Snow’s wedding dress from their second wedding. It is a mess all around.

Actually, this right here is how I feel about the whole thing. And maybe that’s because I got into the show first because of Rumple and Regina, and then because of Neal. I think there’s maybe subtle differences in how one feels about the current state of affairs based on whether one came to SF as a Neal fan or as an Emma fan. Because I have a lot of trouble recognizing anything about Emma that I used to like or identify with as the character is written now, I don’t feel particularly strongly about CS. If the show were to randomly bring Neal back (not that it’d ever happen of course), I’m not convinced I’d be on the SF train still, just because I think that Neal could do better.

ParticipantThat wedding dress just confirms that the heteronormalisation of Emma Swan is now complete.

It’s like some kind of weird version of Get Out.
