ParticipantYes her own son telling her these tales and her reaction was that he was crazy and she was ready to leave him with Regina and then only stuck around because his therapist said it was a good idea.
Exactly! From the pilot:
Henry: Use your superpower. See if I’m lying.
Emma: Just because you believe something, doesn’t make it true.
Henry: That’s exactly what makes it true. You should know more than anyone.
Emma: Why’s that?
Henry: Because you’re in this book.
Emma: Oh, kid. You’ve got problems.
Henry: Yep. And you’re going to fix them.Would Emma have really believed Neal, a grown man, was telling the truth unless he had some sort of undeniable proof?

Emma likes proof. She has to actually touch the book and see that there is no other way for Henry to be dying unless it’s magic. Seconds before she says “magic” and picks up the book, she is fighting Whale saying that it must be something of THIS world.
Emma is not Neal. Neal knew the other world existed and knew about magic. He knows the story August is telling is true and the piece of paper in a typerwriter in a box is all the proof he needs. Emma would think it was some sort of elaborate hoax.

Yes, that is the Emma of S1 in a nutshell. I do wonder how cursed Emma, believing she kept Henry, the trust believer, might’ve affected her mentality. J-MO said her implanted beliefs will certainly influence her. Perhaps by thinking she raised Henry, he’ll have rubbed off on her and therefore will be more likely to believe faster than Emma was in reality in S1. Perhaps that is how cursed Emma, upon seeing the dreamcatcher again, will agree to drink the elixir from the BF?

That sounds like a pretty good guess. She won’t be as WALLS UP as she was in the pilot because now she thinks that she hasn’t been alone for 10 years.
Wacky headcanon but what if Neal sent a letter telling Emma to believe Hook. Because while she might not want to see Neal as she is presently, seeing that Neal knows about Henry would be the biggest indication that Hook is telling the truth. Then seeing the dreamcatcher would prompt her to at least take a leap of faith (THEME) and drink the potion

That would be something, like the postcard August sent Neal. A letter can be forged but an actual, recognizable artifact that connects Emma to her memory of the past with Neal? That is why I’m latching onto the idea that the dreamcatcher is Emma’s actual wake-up call to her true identity. All the better if Neal is there too! That’s pretty believable!

KeymasterThere has to be something that makes Emma believe. And a letter or something like it from your ex with whom you share a child but who you THINK knows nothing about said child telling you all about that child would be a pretty big sign that something was going on.
If Hook knew about Henry, I think Emma might be a little freaked out because as far as she knows he is not connected to Henry. But if Neal knew about him….that’s a pretty big deal.

Another excellent point! As far as cursed Emma knows, no one besides herself knows the true identity of Henry’s father. In her mind, it would be unexplainable how Neal had any knowledge or awareness of Henry’s existence (unless he’d hired a private eye to track her). But in cursed Emma’s mind, why would Neal have any reason to even suspect they had a son together? She still thinks he set her up for prison! And why on Earth would Neal have sent a man who claims to be Captain Hook in his place? As Emma is prone to say: “What the he!!?”

KeymasterSo far today I have speculated that
–Neal is in NYC with Hook
–Neal is in OZ with Belle rescuing Rumple
–Neal sent a letter to Emma that gets her to believe everything Hook is saying.
It’s only Friday, less than a week after 311. This is going to drive us bonkers. I need more set pics.

Whatever the truth is, I suspect it will be a good reason why Hook came instead of Neal. I still think that Neal might be with Belle trying to rescue Rumple from Oz, but I like the idea that first he comes to NYC with Hook. I remember that someone from our message board had tweeted Jane Espenson asking what would happen to Neal in the second half of S3. She replied that it was a spoiler; so, I’m hoping it’s something juicy!
