The little car that could…. Maybe 20 pages back or so Phee made a comment about how she really needs a flashback of Emma taking the car into a shop and having the mechanic tell her that the car was too old to repair and she was better off without it. And Emma told the mechanic “do whatever it takes. Whatever the cost. I’m keeping my car.” That car is so old and probably not in the best condition. Yet Emma took time and money and made sure it stayed in good condition. That’s love.

To add to this line of thinking, Volkswagens, at least in the U.S., are very very expensive to repair or have any sort of work done on. Parts and labor are both expensive. Add to that an older Beetle model such as Emma’s and you have a money hog for sure.

Side note: We used to have an older model someone practically gave to my dad. Downside: it had a giant black widow nest in it that was near impossible to get rid of. *shudder*. We eventually gave it away but now I wish my dad still had it 🙂

Also, I love those gifs of SSTR. Emma’s face after Neal says “I love you too” is like so happy and so full of sorrow at the same time. Jen did such a great job portraying that combination.

I used to have a little dream catcher hanging in the window of my bedroom. Then I got a pair of kittens who had a fave game of climbing the curtains to get to the dream catcher, so I had to take it down. Now I wanna put it back up for fangirly reasons, but I’m pretty sure the cats would still try to get at it. *sigh* Lucky for them they’re cute.

    Kittehs!

I wonder what that extra ingredient will be ? Any Ideas RG ?

My current theory is this: Emma goes to Neal’s apartment at the prompting of Hook before he is hauled off in chains. Emma goes, because she is curious. She finds the dream catcher in Neal’s apartment, picks it up and a looks into it. It’s going to work like the Cricket Game where Emma’s magic just comes out. The dream catcher will show her flashes of what happened the last time Emma was in NYC–Neal and Henry and Gold. This will cause her to trust Hook enough to bail him out of prison and drink the memory potion that will give her back her memories

While I like the idea, I don’t think Emma has any magic outside the borders of Storybrooke. In the recent Jan. 19 TV Guide spoilers, Eddy Kitsis said Emma’s magic doesn’t work in NYC:

Emma might not have memories, but she still has magic. Could she stumble upon that? Kitsis: We did see her drive out of town, so there’s no magic on that side. She is strong, but if we remember in Season 1, you have to believe in magic to see it.

Yeah I don’t get that. magical objects retain their magic outside of SB. Hook’s poison hook for instance, or Rumple’s shawl. They are magical objects that were imbued with magic and thus retain their magical properties. Emma IS magic. She doesn’t need to create it, she simply is. Which is why when she gave birth all the lights flickered.

While it’s true that magical objects can maintain their magical essence, it’s the second part of what Eddy said is the real clincher, in my opinion: “She is strong, but if we remember in Season 1, you have to believe in magic to see it.” So even if Emma were strong enough on her own to generate magic (because she embodies it), she’s still going to need to believe first, and then she could see magic. While I think Emma’s talisman is the dreamcather, I think it’ll take something else in addition to it to get her to trust Hook enough to drink the potion. I think that extra ingredient might be a photograph of Neal and Henry taken around the time of “Manhattan” before Hook stabbed Rumplestiltskin.

I see what you’re saying but by the same token, Emma didn’t believe in magic when she gave birth. But she was under extreme emotional stress. So if she goes to Neal’s apartment and realizes that Neal kept the dreamcatcher all these years (in her cursed mind) then that might cause extreme emotional duress, which causes her magic to just come out. I do think there has to be some sort of photo as well, given the “that’s not possible” line. Maybe she sees the photo FIRST, says “that’s not possible” and then sees the dream catcher and starts to have flashes

That could be the case, sort of how Harry Potter was able to do magic when he felt threatened and could hear snakes speak to him, even before he knew he was a wizard. Yet, what I wonder is why Eddy would make it sound like magic wouldn’t be what makes Emma believe, unless he was trying to conceal it from us. Yet, maybe that time she gave birth and the lights flickered really was just a one-time event. I wonder though if Emma had a history of odd events in her life before she arrived in SB in the pilot and the light blew a fuse when she slammed her car door. That’d be interesting to find out.

What if that’s why no one would keep Emma, weird accidents kept happening around her that freaked out foster families???? Of course after a while a foster child stops trying and become harden and rebellious. I bet her last years in the foster system was spent in a teen girl’s group home. Where she learn the tricks of the trade.

It could be why she was handed from home to home. Emma causing lights to flicker  isn’t that odd though, because it could be explained away as the electricity being on the fritz if it happened just once or twice. However, it if happened repeatedly whenever little Emma had a tantrum, then I could see foster parents being freaked out and sending her back.
