KeymasterSpeaking of ducks…are we ever going to see more of EmmaDuck and NealDuck?
Oh I hope so!! I know I kinda dropped the ball on that. We kept getting other stuff to talk about! Maybe they’ll make a little appearance on premiere night….
R-eblogging for reasons. It’s been brought up time after time in S3 that Neal is the person Emma loves. I wonder why that is. Could it be, gasp, because Neal is the man Emma truly loves?
*deadpan* I have no idea what you’re talking about. Emma clearly doesn’t love Neal. She has no idea what she’s saying when she said that stuff in those moments that I am going to pretend don’t exist.
that connection between the two of them was very powerful
So powerful. Like…TRUE LOVE YOU MIGHT SAY?!

YES! There is a real power, some might say deep magic, that accompanies True Love. Could it be that Emma’s kiss for the man she really loves (aka Neal) is what will do the trick to breaking this new curse?
Also, with regards to the swan pendant, I remember J-Mo tweeted about how she chose that item for Emma’s wardrobe because of the huge symbolism.
Jennifer Morrison: “I chose that necklace with that in mind knowing that Emma is the connection between fairy tale and reality.”
You know what else is strong enough to transcend realms and break any curse? TRUE LOVE. That necklace is highly symbolic for Emma herself being a link between worlds, but also of her love for Neal being strong enough to transcend worlds.
Can we also talk about how the makers of the pendant call it a swan TALISMAN necklace? Could it be that the swan pendant, rather than the dream catcher is Emma’s talisman that jogs her memory? Also, there is huge symbolism about swans transcending worlds. Swan pairs stay together for life. Sounds about right. 🙂"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. ParticipantExcellent point! Cursed David went to the toll bridge, which was really the troll bridge where he and Snow found true love. Cursed Emma being in NYC because that’s where Neal’s home is totally makes sense! Thank you for that lovely reminder. 🙂
Exactly. There have been instances with the curse in season 1 that David and MM both had strange deja-vu moments that remind them of their True Love. And they were inevitably pulled towards each other even with their cursed-self. And all the symbolism we’ve seen thus far post cursed Emma is SF related. Even on a subconscious level Emma still thinks of Neal. Neal and Emma are True Love.

Neal is also the connection between fairy tale and reality. It’s one of the many things they have in common! Both are children of the mythic but grew up in the “real.” They are the only two characters on the show who can make that claim.

ParticipantSo, knowing the importance of names on Once, what do you think the chances are of the writers selecting the names Emma and Henry in conjunction with Aunty Em and Uncle Henry? Seems to me like the writers have had Oz planned since the very start because flying monkeys are seen in Henry’s book in the pilot. So, it wouldn’t be that strange for them to have chosen those names with the intention of linking them back to Oz one day.
Along the same line, what are the chances that L. Frank Baum (author of Oz books) would have a son named Harry Neal Baum? Harry is a nickname for Henry. Neal. Again, it’s almost like the writers have this mapped out or something.

ParticipantI lurk here a lot, and haven’t posted because I tried to forget about everything OUAT due to this horrible, painful hiatus stomping on my heart.. but with the new stuff coming out you guys inspired me to give ‘er a grand ole go again. In honor, I made this to cheer myself up.
Oh wow this is gorgeous!! Thanks for sharing it with us and welcome to the thread!!!
Random Thought: I wish I could find the post on Tumblr but there’s a girl there with a great theory that not only makes sense from a story perspective from a general TV rule perspective too. One thing we all know from this show is that no one gets to stay happy and if they are for a while, it’s not going to last. Emma alone is great example of this: Finds her family, they’re cursed and don’t know her. Break the curse, gets sent to FT land. Finds the love of her life, he’s engaged and then to top that off, he falls through a portal and is presumed dead. Finally has everyone important in her life, she has to leave them behind to be there for Henry. No one is happy on this show for long and that pretty much describes how things work on almost any TV show right now. If there’s no drama of some sort or a conflict for the characters, there usually isn’t much of a story. Its like TV 101 to give characters a lot of drama. This is the main thing the Tumblr girl pointed out before she gave her theory.
That said here is the rest of her theory. From the spoilers that we know and from things we seem to see coming, it seems like most of the characters all have some type of issue that they’re having to work through along with the whole being cursed thing…..except for one person. Who seems to have everything going good for him right now? Who has easy access to the girl he thinks he loves? Who is going to bond with her son for the first time? Who can possibly help everyone piece together this giant puzzle they’re in right now? Whose motivations are always up in the air? Yup, Hook. Life sounds like it’s going pretty darn well for him in this part of the season and if you know your TV 101, this shouldn’t make you happy if you’re a Hook fan because the only thing that can happen after that is for it all to go away somehow. He’s one of the only characters who hasn’t really suffered in his recent past either and the theory this girl has is that he’s being set up to be the one to die. Characters on this show do not remain happy nor does everything keep coming easy for them so I can’t argue with her theory at all because it makes sense. IMO, I think he’s going to be forced to make a similar type of sacrifice that Regina & Rumple did at the end of S3A in order to complete that hero arc they’ve started with him (unrealistic as it is for me because of the time frame but that’s a whole other essay, LOL). I think Hook bonding with Henry is going to remind him of the time he spent with Bae and maybe finding out about Nealfire’s bad situation (captivity or what not) is going to make him reevaluate the choices he’s made lately (I agree that it’s awfully shady that we don’t know how he got to NYC yet and I think he is a prime candidate to do something dark to get what he wants possibly even working with Zelena) and do the right thing when push comes to shove. The more they reveal about the upcoming S3B episodes, the less fearful I am about Neal dying because STORYWISE, it makes no sense whatsoever as his arc isn’t even remotely close to ending, but Hook? His arc could end in these upcoming episodes and if they’re not going to write him like they did in S2, then I would rather see things go that way because I won’t miss this weeny ‘heroic’ Hook they’ve created in S3 (I prefer the bad boy). Anyway, hope this makes sense and if I could find that Tumblr post I would totally link it here but I can’t even remember who wrote it now. She makes the points much better than me, LOL

Heather I have to agree with you I was saying something very much the same yesterday in chat.

ParticipantGood Morning…..Like ALL the OUAT family, I am looking forward to being on edge with anticipation…..to again be enchanted, mystified, stunned . The naysayers, the doomers, the “converts” cannot dampen my belief in A & E vision of happy endings for: SWANFIRE, RUMBLELLE, SNOWING, and (please excuse my attempt at combining names) SWANFIRERY (Emma, Nealfire and Henry). This is a TV show that have captivated us and like other TV series, A & E and their writing team are exasperatingly S T R E T C H I N G the storyline. But, then, the reward of TRUE LOVE is the journey that can’t be told in one hour….it is paved with struggles, anguish and separations, as experienced by SWANFIRE…RUMBELLE…SNOWING.
