ParticipantRG: I don’t think Neal going off with Belle signifies him giving up at all. I think his time with Belle is going to convince him more than ever that he needs to fight for his family. Hopefully they discover the truth about Rumple at some point too and through that he realizes that if Belle can believe and fight for her true love, then he needs to believe and fight for his love as well. I honestly do think something bad happens to Neal that doesn’t allow him to go seek out Emma (of course…why would anything GOOD happen for poor Neal?!) and it’s part of the story that we don’t know yet for S3B. I still think Hook is being set up somehow for the downfall later this season and that he was in cahoots with someone in order to get out to find Emma (best guess…Zelena). Remember what’s been written elsewhere by people who’ve seen the episode in question…nothing in this episode is at all conclusive that things are over for Emma & Neal (and it was CS people who said that too). Hang onto hope! These first few episodes back are going to SUCK ROCKS for us but we just need to sit tight and wait for our turn. Get that #BOOM on girl!
More #BOOM less gloom!! I’m sticking with this because it keeps me sane. 😉

I don’t think that’s what it means at all.
But not everyone is content to play house. Captain Hook’s priority is a very pirate-like one, while Neal is resolved to not just confirm his father’s fate (for better or for worse) but also to reunite with Emma. Alas on that second front, he gets little back-up from his true love’s folks. “Because Mary Margaret and David never could be the parents they wanted to be for Emma, it was their chance at the end of the [midseason] finale to let her go and be happy,” Dallas explains. “So when they see that Neal is determined to find her, they try to say, ‘Look, this is where we live now and that‘s where she and Henry are. We have to let them go.’” Luckily, the erstwhile Baelfire finds at least one ally. “Most of us stick together,” Goodwin reports, “but Belle does go on an adventure with Neal.”
The boldfaced words suggest that despite Snow and Charming not encouraging Neal in his plan to reunite with Emma and Henry, Belle does. Notice the contrast of words, “Alas” with “luckily” which means that Belle is offering him hope and is an ally to him. That’s wonderful news! 🙂 I can’t wait to see Neal and Belle team up, even if first they must save Rumple before they can save everyone else. Plus, we had a gem in TV Line acknowledging that Neal’s true love is Emma. 🙂

KeymasterI am with Slurpeez on one thing: I *hate* that line “I’m not here because of Neal.” GAH! Stop throwing 222 out the window! If Hook no longer feels that way about Nealfire then 301-304 make NO SENSE and you have to show me where the change happened!!!!!!!!
/end
I hope you’re right. Because with that and the whole “what path will Neal go down?” spoiler, I’m over here worried that they’ll destroy his character and then kill him. And I can’t stand the thought of either but combined…

ParticipantWe called that camera guys. People shot that down over and over or just ignored it as too SF shippy, but now its canon (ok camera joke pun , maybe its a Nikon). Anyway, we were right about that because we knew Neal ‘s part in Emma’s life isn’t done, and Manhattan and the follow-up NY scenes were not just Collin broke his leg filler. That was an emotional and heavy episode that the writers planned for a long time, full of mythology reveals for the show. Now its not as shippy as “Emma goes to his apartment, realizes she loves him and remembers!” but most of us were a bit too realistic to expect that. Emma’s memories have been reset and once again, we see the writers aren’t hand-waiving away the drama of how his leaving hurt Emma. They are building story around it. Hook is just the messenger and he really could be anyone else and Emma would probably act much the same. CS is once again, wrapped around a SF scene but we’re reminded of the perfect example of how the reverse isn’t true. Emma and Neal in Manhattan have nothing to do with Hook or how Emma feels about Hook. When Emma’s in a scene with Hook? The aftermath and discussion, sometimes even the context of the scene goes back to Neal. The writers set-up here is that Hook is more or less an obstacle/catalyst between Emma and Neal resolving their feelings for each other.

Your pun-age is excellent
and yes @KFC. Hook is there to constantly remind Emma of Neal. He’s like the first word out of Emma’s mouth!

ParticipantUM, WOW, and LOL: Allow me to laugh and OMG WOW ALL CAPS REACT with RG about the true love thing because I totally missed it too and I read the article twice, LOL 😉 WOW. That’s pretty dang awesome! I hope Matt doesn’t take that out of his story because part of me thinks he put that in there by accident and wasn’t supposed to use those words and part of me thinks he feels bad for SF fans (he reads the comments section of his site) and wanted to give them something to hold onto for this episode. I personally think he’s a closet SF fan which is why he reports as fairly as he does and ALWAYS makes sure to include Neal in everything.
KFC-Cookies to you for the canon joke which made me crack up at my work desk, LOL 😆

Don’t know how closeted he is. His background on Twitter for the longest time was Emma and Neal in Gold’s shop. Neal with the sword, from The Miller’s Daughter.
ok.ok.okok.ok.ok. that was good. that was a little ray of sunshine. OR RATHER A GIANT FLAMING STARBURST OF EPIC TRUE LOVENESS. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

ParticipantAnd yes, commencing freak out.
This is TVLINE. They’re usually pretty darn careful and dollars to donuts, someone is going to complain and they’re going to post a note that edits it out or Adam is going to pull a “I didn’t say that” –but isn’t it just wonderful to see a non-CS biased (even if its SF biased ;P) article? They sent screeners to “journalists” who blog and self-identify as CSers….no wonder things have seemed a bit harsh for us SF fans. I’ve been musing about A&E being a bit Pan/Rumple like about spoilers. Sure we think we’re seeing things they didn’t want us to see, or are we? Maybe those things we saw were things they didn’t care about. They can be sneaky when they want to be. They absolutely can. They’ve done it before and its as simple as filming in studio or on location at an awkward time where the set followers aren’t likely to be. They can use unmarked cars to transfer the actors instead of the “bus”. MRJ’s a pro at being sneaky, with the whole NYC filming they did with him. They got in August for Tallahasee I think on the down-low. Or that Tamara and August knew each other? Sometimes we only “Guess” because of leaked spoilers and promos. Whatever is going on, and whatever it means –sounds to me like there are small glimmers of hope that the “Emma’s just 1000% done with Neal narrative” isn’t the story A&E are telling.
