ParticipantFor Neal just to die like that lessens the significance of Rumple’s sacrifice, because Rumple was trying to save his son. Rumple spent centuries looking for away to find his boy, to tell him he loved him, and that happiness is possible just not with him. Now Rumple is childless and his happy ending taken from him.
ALL of what slurpeez said, but just wanted to elaborate a bit on this point. The whole premise of the show is based on the upheaval Rumple caused in all these people’s lives so that he could get back to his son and they could have their happy ending. Eventually, by 311, Rumple had grown to a place where he was able to accept responsibility, and made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of his son being able to have his happy ending. Rumple’s reward for that self realisation and sacrifice was that the son he wished the best for ended up dying. That sends the message that redemption isn’t really possible, that even making the ultimate sacrifice yourself isn’t enough to earn you, or your loved ones, a happy ending, and there is NO hope in that message. Everything Rumple did, for better and for worse, everything that EVERYONE went through because of his actions, in the end it’s for NOTHING because his son died. The whole story they’ve established, it got flushed down the drain as having been a completely pointless exercise.
Also, please mention the character assassination with the line about him finally knowing what it is to make a selfless sacrifice and how completely bogus it was, considering the fact that selfless sacrifice is Nealfire’s habit of a long lifetime.

ParticipantAnd I’m with you RG about next week’s episode. I just simply don’t care about it right now. I really don’t care what the WW has in store with the rest of Storybrooke.
And I really don’t want to see the Henry and Hook scene that is suppose to be in this upcoming episode. I think it will just piss me off completely.

KeymasterOh and can I add, just because I am upset over a character death, it doesn’t mean that my logical functioning reasoning brain doesn’t work and that I am no longer an open-minded person. I can still think and reason, thank you.
amen
First of all, and mostly, primarily – HUGE hugs RG. I know I am a loudmouthed newbie, but I can read your pain in every post and it is breaking my heart. Please please know that despite everything you are feeling right now, who you are and what you feel is completely valid. From reading the last year of thread, I know what an awesome gal you are, and giant hugs. (This, too, for everyone else for whom this goes far beyond a TV show. Hugs. Just hugs.)
*hugs back*

KeymasterQuestion: How do you give a Neal send off without the Darlings at his funeral? Yet have the time and thought to bring back Ariel, Eric, young Cora, Eva and Leopold, Aurora, Philip, and Blackbeard coming up if his death has been planned since the summer?
Because the writers don’t care.
apparently the wake is going to be interrupted by Zelena. And then some idiotic western showdown.
Because they are going to forget Neal. He’s going to be rug swept. By the end of the season, Henry won’t care that his father died. Rumple will be all, “ah well. New family!!!” and Emma will be like, “lol. Neal who??”
He’s Tamara 2.0

God. That line pissed me off so much. Really? He finally understands? The boy who was willing to leave everything behind in the EF to start a new life in new world he knew nothing about so that he could save his father from the darkness? The boy who sacrificed himself to the shadow to yet again an unknown fate so that he could save his new found family, the Darlings. The man who left the woman he loved so that she could fulfill her destiny and save her family and the EF. The man who faced the father who abandoned him so that the woman he loved would not be harmed. The man who left his entire life in NYC so he could be with the son he never knew about and be there for him. The man that took a bullet and then chose to fall through a bean portal so that his son didn’t have to grow up without both parents. That man?!? That’s the one that didn’t understand what sacrifice was? Am I watching the same show that this episode is a part of? I just don’t know anymore.
