^No one is right. It’s all a matter of opinion.
[adrotate group="5"]December 26, 2012 at 2:30 am #166297AllThatGlittersParticipantI think we just need to watch and see how the Neal and Hook characters play out. We’ve been introduced to them in a couple of episodes. There is a lot more backstory needed for both of these guys!
Yes, we are off-topic. So any updates on Ep 2×14 spoilers? 🙂

Yes, I agree. 😉
Now, back to the topic at hand.

Honestly, I think we’ve seen more potential for depth in Nealfire then we’ve seen in Hook. In simple terms Hook seems to be a womaniser who is dead set on revenge for the death of the one woman he’s ever loved and will do everything he can to get that. The only way i see that ending is with either him or Rumple dead (and we all know which one is more likely).
Nealfire on the other had has a lot of development ahead of him. His relationship with Emma, His relationship with Gold and Belle, his new role as a father and his place as an outsider in Storybrooke, dealing with all the things Gold has done to get to this world including killing Millah.

You can’t pump orange juice from oil wells. Unless something drastic happens, this just ain’t gonna work.
December 26, 2012 at 4:35 am #166306JosephineParticipantHmm…Manhattan. Any chance it’s going to be written by my favorite Once writer, Jane Espenson, too? Is that too much to ask for? Please, please, pretty please.
I have to say I’m much more interested in Neal overall than any other character at this point. It’s knocked Rumbelle out of the top spot on my Once obsession list, and I didn’t think anything could top Rumplestiltskin. There is just so much I can’t wait to see about Neal. If he’s Bae, then what happened to him? What will his reaction to his father be? How is he going to react to being a father? Will he move to Storybrooke? How will Regina react to having Henry’s father in town, another person she has to fight for attention with Henry?
I’m abivalent about Hook at this point. I wish they would have casted someone more mature for the character. When I think of Captain Hook, I think of this domineering and sneering villian. He was one of the only villians I was truly scared of as a kid, so I’m kind of disappointed in the direction they’ve taken him. I wanted someone on the level of Robert Carlyle. In my opinion, Barbara Hershey fits nicely but Colin doesn’t. Just a personal opinion.
I’m with Bee, I can recognize that Josh Dallas is the most physically attractive on the show, but I probably wouldn’t go for him in real life. I find Robert Carlyle much more engaging, even though he’s in his fifties and not considered eye candy. But then I’ve had a crush on him for years, so it’s not the age thing, it’s the actor. I also think Michael Raymond James is attractive. I was really surprised when I read online that so many people find him unattractive.
As for who Emma should end up with, I admit I’m a major SwanThief/SwanFire fan. I just think it’s poetic that they end up together in the end. And I just can’t see Emma with all she’s been through, even if there is sexual chemistry, having a long-term relationship with Hook. Just because there’s a spark doesn’t mean it should be ignited. Heck, she has a major spark with Regina and I’m in no way a SwanQueen fan. Actually, I don’t think she needs any guy in her life this season. She just got Henry back, she found her parents, was whisked away to another world, and now has to build a relationship with her father. She doesn’t need a romantic relationship to throw into the mix, even from Neal. I do really want to see him in her life, but I think they’ve got a lot to work out and it’s going to take a long time. I’d be disappointed if they jumped in the sack after one episode, or even this season. So despite the flirting, I can’t see her falling for Hook, either.
Ack, my fingers spewed out a lot of Neal and Hook opinions, but I also wanted to add that talking to a few in my family who love the show, but aren’t into fandom, they all are interested in Neal being Bae, but not one of them have talked about Hook. We have to remember that what fandom thinks is not necessarily what the rest of the viewers think. We’re only a small percentage of who actually watch the show every week. I also don’t think the writers take the shippers views into account at all. They have story to tell and they’re going to go where they feel their muse will take them.
Keeper of Rumplestiltskin's and Neal's spears and war paint and crystal ball.
December 26, 2012 at 6:10 am #166307sarah_tnParticipantThis is about episode 14, so it’s the last thing I’ll post on this topic.
I got curious. I went to twitter to see how public opinion may rank on “shipping” from social media.
When searching (the option for “all”) “hook” “emma” or “hook” “ouat”, I got a lot of entries. When searching “neal” “emma” or “neal” “ouat”, they were there, but far less so often. This is an objective information source, and it’s results cannot be spun to reflect individual preference in one direction, or another. I believe that makes for a good indicator of popular sentiment.
With the way we’ve fought over the “shipper wars” though, it’d do us right for them to have done the old “Bait and Switch”, and pair her with neither one of them. She could end up with August (no objection).
Okay, that’s the last thing I’ll say about it. Now, back to Manhattan. One good thing does come out of this. It’s great to know people can leave Storybrooke. That, will continue to make things ever more interesting.
December 26, 2012 at 6:20 am #166309midnight drearyParticipant^Those results could also reflect the fact that Hook has been several episodes, while Neal has only been 1 (aside from his 60 second appearance in “Broken”). The more screentime a character gets, the more results he’s bound to get.

Exactly. I’d hardly call them completely objective. And a lot of it could have been because Hook was a beloved fairy tail character in his own right and that’s why they made such a big hype about it. Plus the words you used could have brought up results for other things. Say an article from when they first announced him wondering how Emma would react to seeing a big pirate ship in Storybrooke harbor. Neal’s bound to have less publicity at this point and that doesn’t necessarily mean that there are less SwanTheif shippers out there (it doesn’t mean that their is either).
But for all the Neal haters out there–the ones that say he has not chemistry with Emma or that he’s not good looking enough for her– all I ask is that everyone waits until the story unfolds more to decide if that ship is ruiening the show. I would do that same if it looked like they were going to make Captain Swan endgame.
Okay, that’s the last thing I’ll say about it. Now, back to Manhattan. One good thing does come out of this. It’s great to know people can leave Storybrooke. That, will continue to make things ever more interesting.
I hope that it’s only temporary or that Gold had to jump through A LOT of hoops to get through the barrier. I think if everyone can get out whenever they want, I’d be kind of afraid that a lot of people will want to scatter and I like the idea of Storybrooke being kind of isolated.
