Here is a very rough Dark Swan manip using that second dress. (Literally it’s a cut and paste of JMo’s face on to the model’s body since I only have paint on my computer so it’s nothing fancy and the lighting doesn’t match.)

Emma’s hair should be wild and untamed not in a severe bun.

I think the stern hairstyle and makeup is a good symbolic look for the character at this stage. Emma has always clamped down on her emotions, and now she has an internal battle for control of her soul.

And I think the opposite, actually. The Dark One isn’t supposed to be inhibited. In fact it’s what Kitsis in the article: Becoming the Dark One “allows you to have the freedom to have no inhibitions,” Kitsis adds, which could play a role in exactly how Emma uses her powers.

The severe makup and hair seems in direct contrast with that idea. She needs to be a bit more…wild.

I’d like to see them use this to show who is currently in the driver’s seat: Emma hunched forward and holding onto the wheel with an iron grip, or the Dark One leaning back with one arm out the window and wild hair blowing in the breeze.

I always thought it was possible that Emma wouldn’t really look all that different. Maybe just wear all black.

I too thought the same. This look is growing on me more and more with each look. They are giving me the Twilight Saga vampire transformation with the makeup. Aside from me thinking Emma would not look much different I too thought her look would change in the way Bella’s did when she became a vampire.

I think the leather jacket is intended to capture a bit of the flair of her classic red jacket. It’s still her, somewhere in there.

I just hope this arc allows us to explore Rumple’s journey instead of casting him and Belle aside as no longer important.

As far as the hair goes, I think they really didn’t have much of a choice but to tie it all back in a bun if they want to differentiate this Emma from the Emma we’ve usually seen. In SB she’s always had her hair down and flowy, so Not!Emma has not a wispy strand in sight.

It also works for me on the uninhibited level because having it all tied back tight means there’s nothing for her face to hide behind. Personally, as someone who’s introverted, I don’t like having my hair pulled back because it means my face is 100% out there, and I’m just not that bold, so I’m more comfortable with my hair down and in close to my face as a shield of sorts. Dark One is totally bold, Dark One doesn’t wanna hide its face from the world at all.

Having it down and kinda wild could give her that mythical beast air about her, but IMO having all her hair out of the way is a “look at me and my power” sort of a statement.

The simplest way to make an “evil” look yet keep it “Emma” would be to take her red jacket combo and make that black

I think that’s what they’ve attempted to do. It still a leather jacket like she usually wears, but it’s all tight around her to symbolise how the Dark One Curse has enveloped and trapped her. That works in theory, but the jacket they came up with is a blah and uninspired design.

That’s a very interesting thought, Keb. I like that. I think i would have gotten it more if it were like the same style as her jacket, just more…spiked and evil and sharp looking but then again that’d probably look ridiculous. Honestly, i think its an OKAY outfit. It’s defiently not horrible, i think (as with most things on this show) we just expected more. I could get used to it though. Imagine Dark Swan marching down the streets of SB, dagger in hand, cape billowing behind her. THIS. WILL. BE. AMAZING. I guess that guy’s words are true: “Die a hero or live long enough to become a villain.” Usually in OUAT its the opposite. Either die a villain or live long enough for a redemption arc.

I actually don’t think that Emma the dark one should be sexy because i don’t think that’s Emma. Rumpel was himself with power, so i think Emma should still be herself with power. Lack of inhibition shouldn’t mean over sexualized at least for Emma.

The thing is i want Emma to feel dangerous. If she is putting her hands on her hips and popping a leg out and acting over sexualized that just doesn’t feel dangerous to me. That feels silly and cartoony. I want Emma to seem dangerous. The boots are the worst part as i said. I think the creepiest Emma has ever looked is just when she is stoic and hard so her outfit in black would have worked better for me, which this sort of is, but the boots are bad. This just doesn’t feel dangerous at all.
