It was, a little, but with Emma and Regina out of town, who was going to stop him (besides Granny with a bit of snark)?

Liked: The Author fanboying over Regina and writing about her. The Author is such a meta character. All his reactions to meeting our villains, from Rumple to Regina, mostly, are so on point. It is awesome. Even better is Rumple and Regina’s reaction to his comments.
I loved Emma’s scene with Hook. I’ve always appreciated how he can talk to her, understand her emotions and calm her down. It’s such a huge contrast with how Regina approached the situation a few episodes back. (The whole “get over it” speech. Regina still needs to learn tact). I know everyone might not agree, but Emma had every right to be angry with her parents for what they did. And for an episode called “Mother”, it was good to see that reconciliation. At heart, all Hook wants is for Emma to be happy and he knew, her staying angry with her parents wasn’t making her happy. And sometimes, Emma does need a push in the right direction, especially since she doesn’t always make the right decision herself sometimes.
Hook confronting the Author and Rumple at Granny’s diner. I’m not a fan of Rumple this season, but it pleases me greatly when Rumple gets taken down a notch or two and that Hook, is one of the few people on this show who calls him out on his crap. Bless my wonderful pirate.
Dislike: Seeing Regina backslide again. I thought it was really extreme for her to enlist the Author to write Zelena out of existence — that has be a fate worse than death. I was hoping and hoping Regina would change her mind, because really, that’s such a cruel fate for anyone to go through. But at the last minute, she changed her mind and I breathed, a sigh of relief. Her speech too in that scene, I thought was great.
The inconsistency when it comes to Evil Queen’s powers in the flashback. Like, we already saw earlier this arc, a young Regina who couldn’t even make a fireball, a year later after Daniel’s death, I assume and then this flashback, it’s a year later and she can crush hearts perfectly. This break in the flow, seriously, continues to drive me nuts.
I love Jane Espenson. The episodes she writes, never disappoint me. They’re always so poignant and moving and this one was really good. There was even food involved, lol.

Anyway, the costumes and so on suggest a later Evil Queen, not young Regina.

I strongly agree. Regina wasn’t openly the Evil Queen until AFTER she had the genie murder Leopold, and in this episode she was wearing black and crushing people’s hearts, meaning she wasn’t hiding her dark magic anymore. Regina wasn’t openly dark until after she’d deposed Leo, framed Snow for his murder, and stolen the crown. Plus, Cora said the common people wanted Snow White to be their queen, which meant that Leo was no longer king. As Leo’s heir, Snow was next in line to the throne, not Regina, who was just a queen dowager, not to mention guilty of regicide and treason. The people recognized Snow as the rightful ruler of Leo’s kingdom after his death, not Regina, and Cora knew that, which is why she was so anxious for Regina to have a baby to secure her (illegitimate) claim to the throne. Only a legitimate child of King Leo could become the next king or queen after his death, and as his only living child, only Snow (and her children after her) have that birthright.

Like: It was Snowing who got Mal and Lily back together after Emma failed cause Lily deserted her mom and was leaving town. And in the end, Snowing arrested the real culprit who acted through them with his pen: Isaac

Apart from Snow’s ridiculous decision to charge a very angry dragon, it was nice to see them actually learn from their mistakes and not repeat them. So when Mal came to them asking for help, there was no more “You’re a villain! You have cooties! You can’t play with us!” Yay! for character growth.
That mistake that Snowing made with Lily was not by their own will. Isaac made it for them by his pen. as hinted in the finale when arresting him. I have official proof that Isaac was the real culprit who obviously made snowing do this. Here’s the link and proof: https://mobile.twitter.com/nickyaiuto1/status/824611608299200512
Jane the writer was involved in this conversation and confessed that she made a mistake in saying he only made the Apprentice do this. Problamo solved.
