I’m not sure if Rumpel can really see into the future. There have been a few things that he’s been unable to predict.
I’m pretty sure the producers or writer/s said something along the lines of Rumple is able to “glimpse” into the future.
That makes sense to me, as peoples actions & choices (no matter how small or large), can cause things to change second by second in the future, so it’d make sense that if he can say get a flash forward to what will happen to a given person as things stand at that point in time- he’d be looking into the future by definition, however if a person happens to change it by making a decision he wasn’t able to control the out come of, then presto, different outcome than he predicted 🙂
I also think getting glimpses works because it maybe that of the millions of possible futures, he gets flashes of the one that has the most likely outcome 🙂

I still think Rumpel is the Crocodile and took his hand. Doesn’t Rumpel even have a hand in his castle?
Whilst Hook cutting off his own hand because of being marked is a great theory, I agree with hjbau that Rumple probably took Hook’s hand.
A theory that just popped into my head. Rumple supposedly tries to save his wife from Hook, right? We know Rumple can have a temper on him, what if him cutting off Hook’s hand is what causes his wife to leave him?

Keeper of FelixWait, didn’t Rumpel’s wife leave him before he became the Dark One because he was a coward and a deserter? I’m thinking that Rumple only gets his revenge on Hook well after becoming the Dark One and gaining untold power.

I don’t. It was my impression that the Rumpel episode was pre dark one Rumpel. I have no idea now why i thought that. Wait. The press release sort of implies that this wife is still his wife and that would not be the case if it was post dark one Rumpel. Though i guess they could still be calling her his wife. For some reason i always thought it was pre dark one Rumpel though and when Bae was still a baby. In the press release there is a different actor for Bae so isn’t he younger. I tried to google the name, but i didn’t get anything.
Rumple’s wife was out of the picture before he became the dark one yet he’s meant to be trying to save her according to the synopsis of this episode. Where would he have found the time to go after Hook after he becam the dark one? Bae would have surely noticed his father’s absence and Rumple would have been busy creating the dark curse to get Bae back unless Rumple is in the process of getting what he needs for the curse when he comes across Hook.

Keeper of FelixThe press release does say young Baelfire though which means to me that Bae is still in fairytale land not in the real world and that he is an infant or a toddler something which means this is Rumpel pre dark one. I still think Rumpel is going to kill the wife and take the baby though i should probably give up on them doing anything that interesting or that dark.
