Well i sort of think that Rumpel is the same man before and after. He is a coward before and he is a coward after. He just has power after so he can cause more damage then before. I don’t think that it is because he is cursed that makes him evil, but that he has this power and he can do almost anything with it. Rumpel is completely corrupt because he is so powerful which is why both Bae and Belle wanted him to get rid of it, but he was too afraid to do so.
I mean Regina’s magic also corrupted her, but she still wants the same thing. She wants to be loved. To me the being all powerful thing is their biggest issues because they can do so much damage and not so much that they have changed so much. They just do evil now because they can.

He’s been the Dark One for centuries and has had a lot of time. Also, based on the promo mash-up, Rumpel appears as the Dark One aboard a ship (yep, I think it’s Captain Hook’s ship).
So, yes, there’ll be a flashback to when Baelfire was just a little boy. But I don’t think Rumpel as a broken-down man and a coward had the courage or power to do anything about Milha abandoning her or Bae for pirating. He had to wait until much later when he had magic to get his revenge on Hook. By then, the curse had corrupted him, and he’d lost Bae and had nothing left to lose. Losing Bae pretty much took away the little shred of love he had left (until Belle came along), and he would’ve only had bitterness and regret.

Here’s an interesting theory about Captain Hook’s hand.
October 3, 2012 at 10:24 pm #155332hjbauParticipantOkay?
That’s a good point slurpeez. Maybe he does take his revenge after so there could be points from pre dark one and dark one Rumpel. I honestly don’t care, either way works. Though i do think there will be pre dark one scenes in the episode.

Ooo! This is actually kind of interesting. Maybe this is the origin story of the medalion. Maybe Rumpel created it as a revenge weapon against Hook for stealing his wife. We already know that he used it as a tool for revenge against Regina, so maybe he used it on Hook too. And the only way to escape the wraith is to chop off your hand.
It actually kind of reminds me of the storyline for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. 😉

You mean damage “before” the curse? No, he never caused any damage then. and there is absolutely NO canon to prove it.
I don’t think that it is because he is cursed that makes him evil, but that he has this power and he can do almost anything with it.
It’s clearly suggested in the show that IT IS the curse that turned him from good-to-evil, so I don’t understand your views. In the end, though, every one chooses to believe what they want and see what they want to see in certain characters. I’d just appreciate it if fans would base their *opinions* (because in the end, they’re just that) more on what’s shown in canon. 🙄
And Cherish, that’s an interesting theory, and It would be a cool twist. However, I still think it was Rumpel-the-croc (wonder how they’re going to pull that off) who bit off Hook’s hand. Everything in recent synopses seem to suggest it.
October 3, 2012 at 11:18 pm #155342hjbauParticipantWell he is a coward before and a coward after. That is what i am basing it on. And he did kill the dark one before he became the dark one as well as burned down the dukes castle and he ran from battle and people died because of it. He did those things. There was also a suggestion that Bae may not be his because the guard guy and then the dark one said all those sorts of things and Rumpel did not refute any of it. We will see.
I always forget it isn’t okay to say that the bad guys are evil. It always seems evident to me since all of the characters on the show think they are. And, of course, these are my opinions, i always forget that i have to say that too.
October 3, 2012 at 11:23 pm #155344midnight drearyParticipantBeing a coward doesn’t mean you’re evil. And killing the Dark One doesn’t seem that bad to me. It’s like faulting someone for killing the Devil. 😆
October 4, 2012 at 1:12 am #155350hjbauParticipantAlright then. So Rumpel is the devil. Then someone line up and kill him.
October 4, 2012 at 3:09 am #155367midnight drearyParticipant^Yeah, once he became the Dartk One. You seem to think that he was evil before he became the Dark One. The show, the writers and the producers have made the point that he wasn’t. But you still seem to think that he was always evil, and that the curse isn’t effecting him. Even though it has been stated numerous times on the show and by the writers and producers that the curse is what’s making him evil.
But whatevz.
