So Rumpelstiltskin told the Blue Fairy “I’ve got all the time in the world. I will do nothing else, I will love nothing else. I will find a way.” And I saw a theory floating around tumblr that Rumpelstiltskin orchestrated everything that happened with Regina and Cora so that he would have someone who would (and could) use the curse. The general agreement seems to be that he needed her because he’d already lost the thing he loved the most, but the question is, how far did he go in making that happen?

I’m not sure I buy he was behind everything that happened leading up to and in the aftermath of Stable Boy, but this does certainly cause new questions about how active he was in getting Regina to a point where she’d use the curse.

And at what point did he decide that Regina would be the one to enact it? Were there other people in FTL who might have enacted the curse in her place? How much did he manipulate events and how much was just opportunism?

Well I feel it was Cora who started Ragina’s anger from what we saw / heard in Stable boy. ” That steed didn’t go wild on its own, did it?”
“I should have let her die on that horse.” Ragina was already angry at her mother but Snow was the straw that broke the camels back, so the speak.

If there was someone else that could have enacted the curse I would have said king George, but I don’t know what he would sacrifice.

Rumple could see the future so he could get an idea of what would happen down the road, who would need help and who he could use to get what he wanted.

I think there will always be evil, vengeful people around. Rumpel wouldn’t need to orchestrate events to create one. He just needed to gather all the elements for the curse and then look around to see who was evilest of all and manipulate them into using the curse.

I agree. I don’t think Rumpel orchestrated what happened to Regina, but I do think that he saw an open opportunity with her. He knew about her tragic past and he took advantage of that. The same goes for Malificent. Regina traded Rumpel’s curse for her sleeping curse. I think Rumpel would have been satisfied with Malificent casting the curse too, however, she changed her mind and decided against it. Rumpel probably would have given the curse to anyone with evil intentions. I wouldn’t be surprised if he offered the curse to Cora or the Queen of Hearts at one point.
