I have to agree with slurpeez108 and Mike. This episode was good and showed that:
Cora is a cunning Evil force to be reckoned with. Bets she goes to Storybrook with the other 4 – and if Lancelot is really alive, him too. She may be the one that creates the “portal” that allows all of them to get back.
Fully convinced Emma that FTL actually exists and that her “I can handle anything” doesn’t work for her there.
Her mother is not only a badass survivor but really is a “I can handle anything” person in FTL that Emma found out she isn’t.
Emma finally understands and believes that Mary Margaret/Snow is in fact her mother.
Emma is overcome with feeling to believe that Mary Margaret/Snow has unconditional for Emma, allowing Emma to show an emotional “crack” in her self sufficient – don’t need anybody – exterior. She is now accepting MM as the mother she spent her entire life looking for.Bonding between Charming and Henry – the (grand)son he always wanted.
Jefferson and his daughter’s reconciliation was wonderful. Gave Jefferson a reason to believe there is hope. Maybe Jefferson will now try to create a portal for Emma and Snow, since he now believes there is “can” instead of “can’t”
Regina showed real emotional joy when she thought Henry wanted to meet her for lunch. No doubt in my mind she really loves him, she just doesn’t know how to get him to love her back. (all Magic comes with a price!)
Mulan and Aurora aren’t fleshed out yet – but no doubt they will become intricately used in future episodes.
As was said, you can’t have all the characters in every episode – it would be hard to maintain a coherent storyline – there are a lot of prominent characters. Besides, each episode seems to have a theme/link between FTL and Storybrook to a particular event.
Some episodes seem to some that they are not as interesting as other episodes, but I believe they provide a vehicle for clues, hints and beginnings to major episodes in the future.

I actually enjoyed it. I think it was a great development for Snow White and Emma. π Both actresses were wonderful together, and Emma acting the way she did with was not at all a surprise–she is resentful and bitter, and she wants to try to show that she does not need anyone and that she can stand up for herself. She is not used to people caring for her.
And I don’t blame Henry for what he did–how many times has Regina done something, manipulated someone for her own purposes. She may be trying to change, but she is not being entirely truthful–she still was not willing to truly help Prince Charming find Emma and Snow White. If she was, she would have told him the whole truth about Jefferson. I honestly don’t think Regina would have helped even if Henry had asked–she kept the keys hidden for a reason.
See and that’s why I think I enjoyed it so much and already have seen it a bunch of times since yesterday lol. All last season we saw this meek Mary Margaret and now we see strong Snow White. We saw Emma and Mary Margaret become best friends and really Emma be like a big sister in that relationship. There was so much tension to know that these two best friends were actually mother and daughter and them not know it at all! Now seeing it all out in the open, with Emma realizing what it means to have her parents back in her life it’s one of the biggest things I waited to see all last season. With Henry I understand why he did what he did but it made me feel bad for Regina, Henry’s very headstrong it runs in his family, Charming I think is now finding it’s better if he doesn’t just dismiss Henry when he says he wants to help. In that way Henry will just take it upon himself to make something happen more than likely putting himself in danger.

.Totally agree, we’ve seen Emma emotionally vulnerable before but not like this. The thing I was wondering before was how well they would pull off Emma being Snow White’s daughter when they both look the same age and were friends all last season. I think Emma falling into the hat and ending up in a world where her Mom is so well equipped to deal with was the best thing that could have happend to their relationship. It put her in a place where she wasn’t so self sufficient and she had to rely on her mom, and she was able to see just what she has now in Snow. And it’s worth saying again Snow White is complete badass π

Emma was an idiot all episode long. Snow says don’t trust Cora, Emma says “hey guess what, I share a son with your daughter!” Emma is told Ogres hunt by sound, Emma shoots her gun, etc. It got real old real fast. Her attitude towards the people who actually knew what they were talking about made her look like a brat.
Emma doing all that, really showing her short comings just really empowered Snow for me, it had me going kind of nuts like “listen to your mom!” Considering she’s in a land she’s never been and is used to being able to handle herself it’s not unreasonable that there would be some growing pains. For her to finally get that she needs to defer to Snow and why she sent her away in the wardrobe and that scene in the nursery made the episode for me. That, the Charming fight scene where he totally lays out all those knights, plus when Snow go Legolas on that Ogre all really made this episode great for me.
I’m far more forgiving of Emma being an idiot in FTL than I am of her being an idiot in our world.
All her life she’s only had herself to rely on, not taking anyone else’s advice at face value. She just killed a dragon last week, girlfriend thinks she’s invincible right about now. They had to show her being a disobedient punk so they could have the moment with the ogre where she had the reality check that, uh, yeah, maybe mum does know best, considering they’re in her world right now. Emma may have kicked many ogre’s butts in our world, so she was cocky, and needed a good slap to make her realise that she needed an attitude adjustment. I thought they pulled that off really well.
The stuff with Snow and Emma in the nursery was beautifully done and so heartbreaking. A real turning point for their relationship, and for Emma as an individual as well.

I think this plot device of sending Snow and Emma to the remains of the EF is excellent; itβs like sending a dysfunctional family on a 30-day wilderness boot-camp to work out their issues β except there are ogres to speed up the process.
Nice analogy! π

.In total agreement with this.
This was a character based/driven episode, rather than an action based episode, which isn’t going to thrill everyone who watches the show, but for me personally it’s what makes the show (or any show for that matter) worth watching.
I WANT to see deeper interactions with the main characters, I WANT to see these characters developed & grow, far more than I want to see a bunch of fighting or CGI scenes blowing fairies up -for instance π .The acting & writing was spot on, with Snow’s & Emma’s stuff in the castle being the highlight of the episode.
I am enjoying the deeper development of characters this season has so far given us- for me if Rumple’s ep is as good as these last 2 have been, then the season is a win for me (only because I find Rumples story very much the same thing just a different day, every time it’s brought up- but I wouldn’t dream of bagging an episode just cause my favourites aren’t in it- the story line & characters/acting are still top notch).October 19, 2012 at 2:21 am #157201doctor whoParticipantWell, the Emma acting stupid thing is explainable, in fact, it’s almost a plot point.
Emma isn’t from there, and she is so used to doing things her way, she normally doesn’t give a second thought to pulling her gun out and scaring the piss outta someone. It’s a natural reaction, unfortunately she is in a place where her natural reaction is a bad choice. Which leads to Snow saving her, and eventually them bonding.
October 19, 2012 at 6:42 pm #157262hmverhagenParticipantLeast favorite episode. Wonderful reunion between Jefferson and Grace, awesome Emma quips, but otherwise, meh.
I think they were trying to show Emma what it would have been like for her to live in Fairytale land. They also gave us Ruth’s story, brought Henry and Charming together in purpose, and gave the us the reason that Snow knew that she would have a daughter.
Most important to note: Without the knowledge of her babies gender, Snow wouldn’t have been able to give Rumple Emma’s future name in Season 1. Thus, I don’t think Rumple could have used Emma to break the curse.

I was rewatching the pilot this week and I noticed how Emma decided to stay in SB after she asked Regina if she loved Henry. Emma’s superpower was that she can tell if people are lying. I believe she stayed because Regina lied about loving Henry. I think Regina’s plot now is to turn Henry into a dark wizard of sorts.

I think Emma’s superpower only works when she is not emotionally involved in a situation. She couldn’t tell when Sidney was lying because she desperately wanted to take down Regina. When Emma asked Regina if she loved Henry, Henry had already told Emma that Regina didn’t love him, so with that in mind, Emma’s maternal instict began kicking in. Emma wanted to stick around to make sure Henry was okay and nothing Regina could have said or done would have convinced Emma otherwise. In fact, Regina threatening Emma actually made her want to stick around even more.
I think Regina is genuinely trying to redeem herself for Henry, but I can see her having a few slip ups along the way.
All magic comes with a price!
