RG maybe you are right after all what happened since seaason 3. I guess you want to protect me going to much in a character and story that may not exist and thank you for protecting me. But I stay with my theory for a too much hurt person that change the little good thing he has into a twisted mental image that never gonna work even when played out. I just can’t picture Rumple as a dictater. He is not the typ of being a king, more like somebody who is controlling the king. He is the puppetmaster, who is not seen but make in reality the story. This theory maybe one like Mama Blue, but I never giving up on that too.
Kid, you theorize your theory until you are blue in the face. Thats fine.
But I don’t see him as a dictator either. But that’s the whole point: none of this makes any sense and I really think it goes back to something Jo said. A and E, after season 1, don’t find “good” compelling. Look at the story lines of Snowing vs Regina or Rumple. They like playing with the villains more so that’s what they do. They don’t know how to write Rumple trying to find his humanity because they think it’s boring and it takes away their favorite super black hat….so they keep him incredibly dark.

In the end of season 5 he is mentally strong enough, but then find a new problem after saving Henry or belle, cause he can use a new kind of magic himself and that least to the 6th season were he found out about his mummy who is a fairy named blue and get into the story of the beginnings of the darkones.

Regina & Robin odd coupling. (evil queen who murdered his wife and whole villages because of her revenge for Snow White becomes his love interest? Especially once Marian showed up). Regina was the more adult and honorable than Robin in regards to his obligation to his wife. So much for his sense of honor, (oh, Errol Flynn, where have you gone?). What happened? did we end up with new screenwriters this season? some of these variations away from the quality and canon developed so far reminds me of what was done to the sequel to the Pirates of the Caribbean. it was so lame like it had been written by 12 year old boys. kinda spoiled the rest of the PoC series for me.
i can see Rumple working his way to sever his tie with the dagger and still keep his powers. but to rule the whole world? are we going to see James Bond next?
i really hope they do a course correction and return to the original story and character qualities that has made this series so phenomenal.
That said, this is still my favorite show.
Don't grow up. It's a trap.

I think this is partially why I’m so perplexed by Rumple. I hear him tell Hook what his plans are. But Generally Rumple tells half truths and never the full story. He rarely lets anyone know his true intentions. Yet here we have Rumple telling Hook exactly what his plans are? Yes, Rumple intends for Hook to die, but still, it’s not like Rumple to give full answers to anyone when questioned.
So, obviously there’s got to be much more to this plan. I don’t believe for a minute Rumple wants to rule the world…with Henry? Here’s some furniture polish kid. Next year we rule the world! Its just ridiculous, and not Rumple at all.
It would make more sense to me if Rumple wanted to be known as a hero to Henry and Belle, get out of crazy Storybrooke, go find a kingdom to rule somewhere. But why on earth, and in what universe would Rumple want to go live in New York City? Like, does he have fond memories of New York?
However, if his intention was to get away from everyone, go to NY, keeping his powers just long enough to cast a memory spell on the three of them, changing their memories so that Henry would thereafter be known and remembered as being Neal, a nice happy family, Rumple the hero, Belle and Neal, that I could believe. Because that’s crazy Rumple.
But world domination? I don’t believe it.
December 9, 2014 at 1:35 am #292576KebParticipantWell, I don’t believe he’d want to try to change Henry into Nealfire…Rumple always liked Henry, even before he knew they were related, and only briefly got spooked by the prophecy about him. But he knows too that Henry and Bae aren’t the same person–he’s not as crazy as Ingrid, at least not in the same way. The fact that he wants to go to New York hadn’t completely registered with me yet, though.
That’s where Neal lived. That’s where his apartment still is; Emma found it only a few weeks ago when Hook told her to so she would believe him. If Rumple’s plan is to somehow bring back Neal, his apartment might be key to doing that. (That’s the one world-threatening thing that feels IC for him to do to me, but I know RG will say that will never happen.)
If his plan is to live quietly with Henry & Belle, or even just Belle at this point (maybe he’d leave Henry to his mothers without the threat of the curse destroying him; it’s not really clear now), where better to do that than his son’s abandoned apartment, where he can at least be surrounded by his things? (Now, about the realism of an apartment being abandoned and unclaimed for a year in Manhattan….good thing it’s a fantasy show.)

Yes, actually. New York was where Baelfire was living when Rumple found his son again. Do we know that is where Rumple is headed this time, or is that just fan conjecture?

If this were still Rumple and Not-Rumple (which is how I am referring to him elsewhere as of late) then I’d agree. Bringing Neal back and saying piss off to the rest of the world…yeah, that’s Rumple.
However this is Not-Rumple.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 9, 2014 at 10:29 am #292593CindersParticipantYes, New York City. The place where Neal lived. The place where Rumple begged for Neal’s love but was rejected and unforgiven. The place where Neal loved Tamara, who Rumple later murdered. The place where Hook tried to murder him with Dreamshade. This is Rumple’s go to place to begin a new comfy life with Belle and Henry.
New York City, where Rumple was fearful of airplanes, security and such. That’s the place he chooses to set down his throne as supreme ruler. Well, maybe he really loved the hot dogs or he wants to live in shadow memories of the grown son whose New York life he didn’t understand.
What a beautiful memorial to a beloved son. Go to Neal’s safe place, where he was isolated and protected from magic. Use ultimate magic to control Neal’s non magical city, and use his couch as your throne.

Neal would roll over in his grave and be ashamed and 100% done with his father.
You know, that might be the part of this whole story I hate the most: Rumple’s total and utter disrespect for his son and those his son loved. Trying to suck Emma into a hat? Yeah, no. Neal would be 1000000% done with Rumple after that.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 9, 2014 at 11:13 am #292596PriceofMagicParticipantEither the writers are playing a long game and deliberately trying to make Rumple look unsympathetic to the audience so that when the big reveal comes along for why he’s doing what he is, the audience is knocked sideways by how emotional it is.
Or they need a long serving villain and since they’re trying to “redeem” Regina and Hook because of OQ and CS, then Rumple is the only one left who can be an antagonist without being defeated.
Rumple is one of my favourite characters on the show but it is frustrating because if you look back over the last 3 seasons, there is ample of motivation and reasons for why he is acting the way he is now, yet the writers are not actively stating as such. It is left up to each individual fan for why Rumple is doing what he is rather than the writers saying he is doing X because of Y.
I can give reasons for why Rumple wants to keep his powers whatever it takes, why he going to the lengths he is to separate himself from the dagger, why he is less considerate towards others outside of Belle and Neal, why Rumple is risking so much by lying to Belle, why his current plan isn’t quite as chess master like as his previous ones. However, because Rumple nor the writers are explaining Rumple’s motivations in-show, it appears Rumple is just doing what he does “For the Evulz!”
The whole “Rumple is a magic addict” angle could be so interesting if they actually take the time to show the human side of addiction. How does it affect Rumple and his relationships? How does it affect Belle? Why is Rumple so dependent on magic?
OUAT has potential to really hit those emotional moments. For example, last year, Rumple’s sacrifice packed such a punch we saw Belle literally crumple to the ground in grief. OUAT could’ve taken the opportunity to show Belle trying to cope with her loss? Did she become despondent? Lash out at others through grief? Wonder how she was going to cope without Rumple? Nope, she just bounced right back in the next episode. These big emotional moments are being skipped over in favour of action! Plot! New Villains who’ll be dead when their half of the season is up!
I think the whole 11 episode arcs has actually been detrimental to Once’s storytelling. Whilst it is nice that we get 11 whole episodes in a row, at the same time, they’re trying to fit a whole season’s worth of material in half a season and as a result: characters aren’t fleshed out, emotional connections aren’t made, plot devices are a quick win because the characters need to get from point A to Pont B in such a short amount of time, Belle and Henry don’t get the screen time because there is too much other plot going on, the supporting characters are now glorified extras. Storybrooke might as well just be made up of the CharmingMillsStiltskin clan since other characters don’t get a look in.
All magic comes with a price!
