Great scene by Robert Carlyle in the airport bathroom. For a guy (Rumple) that has been in total control for centuries, and without speaking a single word, the bathroom scene captured how Rumple felt being powerless and frightened. A great moment.
I hope that Mr. Gold, with Emma’s support, and observing Henry’s comfort and love of adventure in being out of StoryBrooke, will help push Mr. Gold towards some personal growth. So, since his behavior came to a head in the bathroom, I’m hoping it will now head in a positive direction going forward.

I am sure that he knows that he has no magic, because with the fire ball he waited until he crossed again the line in 2.12. He knows that he is so near Bealfire since 300 years and that it is very dangerous that he could lose his memory or get hurt or die by a plane crash. And that is not all. I think the worst for him IS to find his son, who will hate him and he can’t do something against. No magic will help him by that even if he had magic at the Outside.
I am so glad that he has Henry and Emma as company (They will look after grandpastiltskin until the reunion 😉 ) and Emma and Neal won’t kill him when Henry is around.
And more I am happy that Rumplestiltskin is played by Robert Carlyle, who is such aa great actor that you can see so much feelings in one expression.

February 11, 2013 at 3:33 pm #172501SlurpeezParticipantRumple/Mr. Gold is my favorite character on this show, probably because Robert makes him such a compelling character. I love seeing Mr. Gold coming to terms with his being just like everyone else.
Mr. Gold has said,
“You were right about me. I am a coward. I have been my entire life. I tried to make up for it by collecting power, the power became so important that I couldn’t let go”
Now that he is without magic in our world, I wonder what event, if anything, could help equip Mr. Gold with the courage he needs to give up his curse once and for all. Perhaps he will have to save Baelfire using not magic but some other tactic.
"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it." Neal Cassidy

That’s an interesting idea. Maube something will happen in New York (mugger, car) where Mr. Gold will finally need to “man-up” without magic, and save the day.

WORD. Robert was phenomenal in this episode. Loved him.
I was glad to see him recant his initial threat to the Charming family. That line really upset me and I hated that he fell back on his old deviant ways. So, it was nice to see him relent making the promise to Charming to protect Emma and Henry.
Personally, I always thought Rumpel would achieve redemption through his search for Baelfire. I think finally seeing what a terrible life Bae was forced to live under and coming to terms with his cowardice will be a good thing for Rumpel. The two people he loves the most are currently in terrible spots in their loves (Belle has lost her memory and Nealfire has had a terrible, lonely life), so hopefully, this will force Rumpel to take a look at himself and make some changes. He has two people who love him and he needs to do all he can to make them happy.

He stole every scene he was in but then again he usually does.
I actually think that when he and Bae talk his current state might help Bae towards forgiving him…Rumple has done exactly what he should have done in the first place…given up magic for Bae…yes it may be a long time in coming and it will only be temporary since he will be returning to Storybrook but it is a first step and for Rumple it is huge. It also goes a long way in proving how much he really loves his son more than magic or power. Thus far it has been an addiction for him and addictions are not always easy to kick. It will be interesting to see once he gets back to Storybrook how the fact that Cora has the dagger affects him. He will go from the extreme of not having magic to the extreme of possibly having his magic controlled by someone else.

The thing is, I think he has not given up his magic knowingly… he seemed almost devastated in that bathroom when he realise that he has no magic anymore.
Poor Rumpel have still some work to do methinks.
February 11, 2013 at 6:25 pm #172543PriceofMagicParticipantI think he knew he wouldn’t have magic outside of Stroybrooke hence why he brought Belle back over the town line before he attempted to throw the fireball at Hook. In the bathroom, I think he was so used to healing himself with magic, that it almost became second nature, and the fact that it doesn’t work was a sharp reminder that he has no control over the situation. He was antsy before he entered the bathroom, he’s trying to hold it together, and the fact he injured himself by punching something signifies that the cracks are starting to show in his facade. It makes you wonder how many other times Rumple has done something like that and then just healed himself?
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixFebruary 11, 2013 at 7:40 pm #172566LisaFromOHParticipantI think the shawl was not only protecting Rumple’s memories, but also his magic. Before he took it off, Emma said she wouldn’t let him forget. I think her magic is what protected his memories while he was not touching the shawl (unconsciously on her part). However, she did not think about protecting his magic (and may not have even if she’d thought about it). That was why he was so surprised when he wasn’t able to use his magic.
Hope I am stating this clearly, my brain’s kind of fuzzy right now (lots going on in RL). -
