edit to daybreak_fairy: Hey, Belle herself describes love as being “many layered”. So maybe one of those layers is “You’re not so bad” followed by “What on earth is wrong with you” and just underneath that is “You’re just a sweetheart aren’t you” and then “What did I ever see in you”? Of course the only layer the fans are concerned about is the one just under the leather pants. π
I agree that those layers are a possibility. lol I’m a big fan of Rumple but not to that degree π
but I think the events of Lacey are sandwhiced in between the big events of Skin Deep, being Belle coming to the castle and the curtain scene.
I agree with this, to me it makes more sense that the curtain scene was after Robin’s part. Lacey’s FTL (the fancy yellow dress while cleaning around, the tension & obvious anger between Rumple & Belle) vs Curtain scene (simple blue dress while cleaning, no tension nice interactions between them). The thing that doesn’t make scene are the freaking curtains.
Now, in the podcast the interviewer said that she was glad that this Lacey FTL parts filled gaps in Rumbelle’s relationship (not in this words exactly). & here’s the writer’s whole response:

βFor us when we did Skin Deep last year you know you only have a certain amount of time in an episode & for us the real inspiration for this episode is βwhat was the first moment that Belle really started to look at him?β. You know of course when she fell off the drapes & they looked at each other but for us, this was the moment when she realized he was more than a beast.β
Now, to me it seems like he said that the curtain scene happened before the Robin stuff. But English is my 2nd language so I’m going to ask you guys, did he mean that?
Btw, I’m sorry I tend to post after a long while, it’s just that I tend to do several things at the same time.

Production error. That’s my theory. To have the curtain scene already happen…just doesn’t add up in my brain.
As to the quote, I think there a few things to say.
There are layers to the Rumple/Belle relationship. It’s a set of stairs if you will (omg, what I am doing…go with me…follow the crazy).
Step One: He’s a beast who has taken me captive BUT maybe there is something there.
Step Two: He spared Robin’s life so maybe he’s not a total monster
Step Three: He gave me a library. He’s not the man I thought he was. He is more than a beast
Step Four: Curtain scene. He’s a man. A good man with whom I am falling passionately in love. Now I truly see him. And that’s when she finally declares “You’re not a monster” once the curtains are down and the light (sun/Belle) are shining in on our less green, brightly colored Rumple."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 27, 2013 at 3:14 am #189098thelonebamfParticipantWhat’s the line from the Simpson’s?

But, in Skin Deep, Belle says when she asks about Bae’s clothing that she’s had a couple of months to look around. That means she wasn’t actually at the Dark Castle for more than about three months tops, because that’s the same day he lets her go/sends her to get straw.
The curtain scene, however, is actually pretty brief, and I can see it coming before. She might be crying in her dungeon at night in Lacey, but she’s getting work done and reading during the day–she’s not a constant sob-pile. She’s annoyed at him, but hey, he’s torturing someone at that point. She did try to run and help him when he was shot. So, dress issue aside, she might actually have giggled at him before Robin came–she did smile when he told her the child-skinning was just a quip, after all. I don’t think she would’ve asked why he spins so much after he told her he did his best thinking then, either. And the way that Rumple looked at her after the hug vs how he reacted when he caught her…I dunno, somehow I think the fall came first.
I also think the cloak is supposed to be one she came with, since she’s using it as a blanket in the dungeon in Lacey. Is it the same fabric? I thought the curtains were reddish.
Oh, and putting the fall before Lacey -might- account for some of the other changes in the hall, like the random couch. If, after she came, he put the couch there for her to rest/read on, and then that’s the same couch/bed that’s in her library (with the pillow on top, I noticed)…that would explain why it’s not there when she fetches a vase for the rose.
Honestly, I think the CGI department did make some “improvements” that mess with the continuity, but in general this show tends to pay attention to details where possible. Or maybe I’m just really good at making excuses for them.

I don’t have one but maybe someone could tweet the writer (Adam I think) & ask or maybe tweet the twitter account that is given at the end of the podcast. Who know maybe they’ll answer.

If the Dark One had just told me I was going to skin children and then he told me it was just a quip, I might smile too…because that’s what you do to crazy people. And then walk away slowly. π
And the way that Rumple looked at her after the hug vs how he reacted when he caught her…I dunno, somehow I think the fall came first.
See, I read the hug totally different. His face is “omg, what is happening. Someone is touching me. First hug in 300 years. What do I do? How do hugs work?” and then that SMILE (heart breaking as I type this, btw). It’s his first realization that someone believes in him. That someone sees the good in him. The curtain scene is almost a reiteration of that feeling except this time, I think it’s him realizing that he’s gone and fallen in love with her. It’s not “someone believes in me” it’s “I’m in love. this isn’t going to end well.”
Curtains are red.
Cloak/Blanket is not red.

Or it unbalanced the feng shui of the room. *is losing mind*
Also, just tweeted Adam. Here’s hoping the man responds.

Unless the curtain scene is after Lacey, in which case Rumple (who is much darker green/gold) and Belle spent time outdoors. And I think those curtain are so pregnant with metaphorical resonance that they can’t just be the first time she sees him daylight. It’s all about the fact that she is his light and he’s letting her in because stupid him went and fell in love with her and he’s realizing it.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 27, 2013 at 3:34 am #189105KebParticipantHm. Her confidence and fearlessness with Rumple in Lacey (while fairly native to Belle anyway) might also spring from his having saved her from the fall, too. I dunno. The significance of the curtains seems to me stronger than the significance of her dress change. And I still haven’t seen a strong enough argument on the behavior angle for me to move it yet.
And I could see the reaction oppositely, RG. When he catches her, it’s not her willingly touching him, it’s almost purely accidental–he didn’t think before catching her, and she didn’t mean to fall. He’s mostly surprised by the sunlight (which he has been hiding from) and the fact that she just looks at him curiously, not frightened by his appearance in the least. And then it gets awkward and both of them pretend nothing happened. She might be glimpsing in that moment that there’s something good inside him, but she doesn’t actually have him figured out yet.
When she hugs him, that’s her choosing to embrace him. That’s her deciding that yep, there definitely is good in there, she was right. And him realizing that she sees right through him and he kinda likes it.

April 27, 2013 at 3:35 am #189106thelonebamfParticipantYou’re right Keb, the curtain fabric and the cloak fabric are not the same. I think that was something said in the last podcast and I just assumed it was accurate. Just went back to look.
However, it may be important to note that in the Robin Hood sequence of events, the curtains are merely *drawn*, not ripped from the walls. If they were nailed down then they’d have to be ripped away and they wouldn’t be hanging so neatly. I think he nailed the curtains up after Belle arrived. I don’t know, maybe after Robin burst in through the window, Rumple went to fix it and said “You know what, forget it, I don’t even NEED windows, I’m nailing these curtains down.” (With Thor’s hammer, I’m sure.) If the curtains went “up” after Belle got there, it’s no wonder she’d just assume she could open them up when Spring came. (Okay, now you’ve all done it. I am writing a fic about the curtains RIGHT NOW.)
I think the curtain scene is important because it shows Belle taking an initiative and changing something in his life and he found he didn’t mind. “I’ll get used to it” isn’t just referring to the curtains, it’s referring to having else (who isn’t afraid to express and act on their own opinions) around and him getting used to the idea of considering someone else’s desires for a change.
I read the hug the same way you did, Rumplesgirl. It was just the idea that someone was open and unafraid of him in any regard. The curtain-catch scene was more of a “Well isn’t *this* a compromising situation we’ve found ourselves in” moment.
