Yes, the numbers 4, 8, 15, 23, and 42 are used a lot, but I’m almost getting tired of seeing them.
Or, more blatantly, the number of times the word “lost” is used. I’m pretty sure it’s been spoken in every episode, sometimes more than once. Now if August would only start calling people “dude”…
They do use the numbers a lot. I don’t usually notice it and don’t mind it so much because of that, but sometimes i think they just use the number because it is a number and not so much a LOST reference. Like every 8 might not be because of LOST just like when they put it somewhere obvious. Like 108 was someones room number i think or 815 on the clock.
Can someone PLEASE explain to me these numbers? I never saw LOST, so I really don’t get them. 🙂 Adding everything new right now.
Explaining the numbers is kind of complicated. Suffice it to say, each number represented one of the main characters who were under consideration for the position of Protector of the island. Since the island has special, unique properties, it’s been sort of a holy grail; it needs protecting from exploiters. The current protector, Jacob, knows that someday his time will come to an end, so he is on the lookout for his successor. He builds a device that allows him to observe from afar; each number is a setting on the device’s dial: Jacob can set the dial at 8, for example, and watch Hugo Reyes. Through these observations, Jacob chooses a group of people who he thinks would make good successors, and he brings them to the island. Eventually out of this group of candidates, one emerges as the next protector.
There’s a lot more to it than that, but I think that what would be more useful to Once fans is to know the basic tenants of Lost, which include
*you always have a choice
*take responsibility for your own actions, but learn to forgive yourself and others
*balance science with faith
*communicate with each other
*rules may seem arbitrary, but we need them to live peaceably
*live together or die alone
The number 815 was the airline flight in Lost
and the number 108 occurred a couple of times one of those being the six numbers of the people chosen when added up totaled 108. I think it was also the amount of time given in the Swan Hatch on the timer before having to hit the button to keep anything bad from happening.
@ Daniel J Lewis I have to agree, I don’t really care if the numbers they use are LOST Easter eggs or not. In fact, I would love it if they would somehow give OUaT its own kind of “numbers” so its a little more of a piece of its own puzzle rather than a search and find game that remembers another puzzle, know what I mean?
I think OUaT can stand on its own now 😀
I don’t know if this has been said here yet, but there are 7 ornate beer steins in Mr. Gold’s pawn shop, that we saw in ep. 14 when the dwarves were in the tavern having a drink. Since there has been some doubt, here is another shot of the dwarves having a drink with the steins.
"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it." Neal Cassidy
😯 I’ve got to watch those episodes again. Thank you!
They are similar, but i am not sure if they are the same. The ones in Gold’s shop seem more colorful. Though i am sure they are the same.
