I’m starting to notice a lot of missing scenes! There are many instances of characters knowing things that they weren’t around for and must have been told about off camera.
For instance, Grumpy knows that Belle lost her memories and became Lacey.
Rumple obviously told Lacey that Storybrooke was going to be destroyed, and he must have told her about Bae being presumed dead too because the first thing Belle says when she gets her memories back is “You’ve lost your son.”
I’d really like to see what ended up on the cutting room floor.

I mean, Belle’s smart–she might have gotten it from his face and his saying “it belongED to someone important” about Bae’s shawl–but it did seem as though he must have told her more, and Lacey just didn’t really care?
I think it’s a good thing Grumpy came by with the potion, because the whole getting Lacey to fall in real love with him was not going so well. Bloodlust, sure, but we know from Cora that wouldn’t be enough.

May 15, 2013 at 3:58 pm #194612RumplesGirlKeymasterWith regards to Lacey and Grumpy: it’s a small enough town that I’m sure by word of mouth everyone knew what happened with Belle. She wasn’t exactly low key. She was out in SB as Lacey and surely ran into people.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 15, 2013 at 4:04 pm #194615KebParticipantAnd she was hanging out with Clark at the bar. It’s not unreasonable for Grumpy to know exactly what happened to his old friend.

Oh, good point- that may be how he knew. I’ve always wondered why we never saw a Grumpy/ Belle reunion in Storybrooke.

Hoping we get some Grumpy/Belle conversations BFF’s in SB in S3.

May 15, 2013 at 4:19 pm #194623MysteryKat25ParticipantSometimes things make sense (like Grumpy likely hearing about Lacey through trying to fix Sneezy) and others are a little more puzzling (like how Hook recognized an undead Maleficent).
I’ve heard more than enough rants about plotholes lately but with OUAT, while it may occasionally seem like a plothole (especially when people start talking about stuff that we don’t think they have reason to know anything about) I’m going to go with the dangling thread theory and just wait to see if that gap ever gets filled in. Usually (especially on rewatches) more is hinted at than we realized first time around (we do get very distracted by the big shiny stuff, don’t we?) but a lot is said in dialogue in various places that somehow connect back later. Or maybe we’ll get a big backstory eventually etc etc.
Do I currently have a plausible way to explain Hook knowing an undead Mal? Nope. Do I look forward to Mal backstory and seeing if they ever cross paths? Sure!
Sadly we’ve got a lot of moments like that because things have to end up on the cutting room floor (seriously grr…have people pay more for the ads but have less ads – that way they’re more “special” and fewer spots = higher demand). It’s very frustrating knowing they do have more story to tell, but it’s not like they can just tack any of it on to other episodes because each one is pretty self-contained. Stop leaving stuff off the show!!!
I get for time reasons etc it’s impossible to do everything but it is frustrating. Although, some people complain about the repeated dialogue etc etc so watching people have the same conversation over and over again doesn’t help much and it takes up time. It works for good effect in some places (ie: most characters had the reveal that Neal was Bae & Henry’s father back in Manhattan – and guessed it earlier than that – but Hook didn’t know or NEED to know until the moment in the diner and it payed off for dramatic effect and went with the storyline for the episode because it needed to hit him right then).

May 15, 2013 at 8:04 pm #194691DemiletoParticipantHow did Hook knew Neal was Bae?
How did Regina know Rumple had a son, let alone that he was the man playing with Henry?
How did Charming and Snow know about the Dark One’s dagger?Gotta love the showrunners and their off-screen revelations! 🙄
May 15, 2013 at 8:56 pm #194696KebParticipantHook was in cohoots with Cora and Regina when Rumple left town to find Neal. Regina was told by the Charmings that Gold was off finding his son, and Regina had tapped the Charmings’ phone line. So it makes sense for both her and Hook to know that the new guy was Neal and also Rumple’s son. Also, Hook followed Rumple to Manhattan and plausibly had some help with that–Tamara? At any rate, he was also working with Tamara, who was Neal’s fake fiance. So he had lots of ways to find out that Neal = Bae.
The revelation for both of them was that Henry was Bae’s son–Rumple told Regina, and Emma told Hook. That we saw on screen.
Charming and Snow knowing about the Dark One’s dagger was always a bit of a mystery, but I’m blaming Blue for that one. They DID plot with Blue (and Ella, Thomas, and the Dwarves) to lock Rumple up back in FTL. I think Blue would know about the dagger, possibly, and that information might have come up as they were figuring out how you lock up The Dark One. That’s about the best excuse I can come up with for why the two idiots knew. (I love them but they earn the title at times.)
