Off the top of my head, I would say the comic book series Fables and the Disney movie Enchanted. They both deal with Fairy Tale characters in a modern world without magic. I feel like they are very much in the same wheel house as OUAT. I was just wondering if there are movies, books, comics, etc. that you know of that share themes, ideas, or other things with Once Upon a Time.

There is a mini series that came out when I was in college called 10th Kingdom- it also involved fairytales and the real world. I don’t remember the storyline much anymore, but I remember liking the show a lot.

I’ve also been constantly singing Into the Woods because I love to sing and OuaT doesn’t have any songs- so the Broadway musical about fairytales is the next best thing. 🙂

I find it very hard to watch Disney movies now without relating them back to OUaT. The Beast in Beauty and the Beast will now and forever be Rumple. Always.

I saw the 10th Kingdom on Netflix with my boyfriend. It was so awful. I never saw the mini series when it originally debuted but it’s not be taken seriously. It also introduced a very interesting curse phrase. 😆

The only reason to watch the 10th Kingdom is for Wolf who is ridiculously adorable.

    I feel the same.
I work in an after-school care and we have the Grimm-year in our institution. So, everytime I’m hearing, seeing and reading the fairytale of Rumpelstiltskin, I must think of our Rumple. The same with Beauty and the Beast and Belle with Rumple and the other charakters and fairytales.

As soon as OUAT was announced I immediately thought of “The Charmings”. A hilarious 1987 ABC Sitcom with Snow White’s family, and the queen and mirror living in 80’s California after a curse was cast by the Queen putting them to sleep for 1,000 years. The creators have mentioned they’d love to see a standoff between the Snow and Charming from this series and the ones on ONCE. lol
