EXCLUSIVE: Yet another live-action version of a tried-and-true Disney fairy tale is wending its way to the big screen. Peter Hedges is penning a feature loosely based on the original Pinocchio story about a marionette carved from wood who dreams of becoming a real boy. Pinocchio gets his wish but is prone to stretching the truth, and each time he does, his nose grows longer.

What hasn’t Disney not touched at this point?  Mulan was announced a week ago, Beauty and the Beast is in the works, Cinderella is still a big hit.  Pan is coming soon. I’m betting on Aladdin being next.

I should note that the upcoming Pan movie is not Disney, but Warner Bros.

Maybe Disney will come out with their own. I mean, it wouldn’t be the first time. We had two Snow White adaptations.

Jungle Book is also happening (actually two are happening…I don’t remember which version is Disney’s. There’s one with Idris Elba as Sher Kahn, and one with Benedict Cumberbatch…)

The Disney one is the one with Bill Murray as Baloo, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Christopher Walken as King Louie, and Giancarlo Esposito as Akela. The Warner Bros version is the one with Benedict.

Funny thing, Robbie Kay starred in a version of Pinocchio in 2010.

I just IMDB’d that movie and Bob Hoskins – he played Smee in Hook and reprised that role for the SyFy movie, he was Geppetto. Sadly, he passed away April last year.
