I think he hid the egg in the dragon so that it would remain safe and hidden until the time came where he could use the true love potion.
It’s either that or the writers just wanted to have a dragon in the finale. 😆

Rumpel put the egg in the dragon because he knows Regina well and he knew that she couldn’t resist to bring Maleficent over because he knows her and not because he SAW it. There is no reason for any SEEING to be happening for Rumpel to do that. And Rumpel made the curse so he knew that it was going to take them to a land without magic and he knew that maybe he should bring a bottle of the most powerful love. And then once he got there he realized that the magical wells were still part of this world in some way so he though i should get that bottle of love and put it in the well and bring magic back because magic is power and i want power. It seems like logic and thought and not necessarily foreknowledge.
May 29, 2012 at 11:59 pm #148032SnickerdoodleParticipantI guess my thought is that if Rumpel was going to have his memory wiped until he met the “trigger” that would help him recall, he had an awful lot of foresight and insight, whether educated guesses or foreknowledge to put it all in place.
I admit I do not understand the need to bring the magic back to Storybrook. My first thoughts were he has found Belle, the curse is broken so he could find Bae. I took it that when he explained to Belle that the waters of the well were known to recover something one has lost… that he perhaps meant Bae, but then when he said to her it was magic and magic was power, everything inside me screamed he brought back the thing he loved most … not Bae, but power. I admit I was shocked. I really don’t understand why he chose that first over finding Bae. Seems more logical to me that he would find Bae then think about the power, but then that wouldn’t be very Rumplestitskinish would it? His desire for power will be his end eventually.
So then I thought did he plan all those things and have such tremendous foresight/ foreknowledge only to have power in another world. Did he see the magic going out in FTL? What’s up with that? And what about Bae? I stand confused frankly, and obviously there is more to his plan. Bring the magic has just started a new phase. Phase I — develop the curse and get Regina to enact it; Phase II — break the curse in the new world; Phase III — Bring back the magic and…

He came to this world, a land without magic, in hopes of finding Baelfire. When August showed up, Rumpel wanted so much for him to be his son, that he allowed himself to believe he was Baelfire. He probably hoped that Baelfire would find him. Yet, when that didn’t happen, he enacted his contingency plan to bring magic to this world in hopes of finding Baelfire. Since whoever bottled true love has the power to do anything, I think that this most powerful form of magic could enable him to bring back someone to life, just in case his son died. It’s been hinted at time and time again, by Rumpel himself, the Genie, Regina, and Maleficent that this is a huge limit that cannot be overcome. Yet, the fact that it’s said to be impossible makes me think that it’s this obstacle that Rumpel wants to overcome with a new most powerful form of magic: true love. He would want to have that power just in case his son had in fact passed away, especially if he cannot really see the future, as some believe. He needs a contingency plan.
Also, since it’s been said the savior, Emma, has to die for the curse to be broken once and for all, it seems like the plot is being set for her possibly to die. Yet, it seems like this story is all about the happy endings, especially for our heroes. If Emma has to die, there must be a way for her to be resurrected. There is a strong savior allegory of Emma as a Christ-like figure. It seems like Rumpel would work that into his plan somehow. Even if that’s not his ultimate intention, it would be a very beneficial consequence of his plan. It would also have a positive outcome for characters like Regina, Ruby, and Jefferson, who’ve all lost loved ones.

I like that idea. I think the magic might be intended for someone else, though. Rumpel is obsessed with fixing things for Bae, and I’m guessing that includes bringing Bae’s mother back into the picture.

Very interesting! Do you think Bae’s mother would be brought to SB–and encounter Belle–or would Rumple go to her?

I think this would have to take place in Storybrooke. The show just feels to me as if Fairy Tale Land has to stay in the past.
I don’t think Belle and Bae’s mom would compete for Rumpel’s attention, though. Rumpel’s feelings for Belle seem genuine. If he does bring back Bae’s mom, it’ll be for the same reason that King Leopold bought a new wife he didn’t love.
