It’s been a few days so everyone has had time to digest and think. I figured it was a good time to get the ball rolling on our overall impressions of S3B.
Feel free to give general thoughts or to answer some of these questions!
1) Favorite Episode?
2) Least Favorite Episode?
3) What did you think of Zelena as a character/villain?
4) Favorite moment?
5) Overall rating for the season? And what sort of unanswered questions do you have?
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 14, 2014 at 10:40 am #269585RumplesGirlKeymasterI’ll go first
1) Favorite Episode: New York City Serenade–everybody had something to do or say.It was light and fun and I thought had great character moments for a lot of our crew.
2) Least Favorite: Quiet Minds–pretty sure I don’t need to say why.
3) I found Zelena to be annoying for the most part. She was compelling in the first few episodes but by the time we got to her first centric, 316 “It’s Not Easy Being Green,” I found her to be like a petulant annoying teenager. Her story and background weren’t as compelling as I hoped mostly because it felt incredibly repetitive of past seasons villains. Bex started off really strong but she became increasingly shrill.
4) Favorite moment: I have a few but the ones at the top are Neal sending the dove despite being dead, Neal and Emma at the carousel and Emma’s definition of home coming from him, Belle demanding an apology from Regina, and even though I’m a little nervous about it I am excited for Elsa.
5) Overall rating: C+. I’ve been harsh on this season but I don’t think it’s unwarranted. The writing on the show is getting lazier and more soap opera-y. There are too many instances where future PLOT drives the story instead of the rules previously established. The rules on the show keep getting twisted and broken and reformed which makes their world inconsistent. Everything felt very rushed and unclear. It’s like Adam and Eddy bring in new toys but then get bored with them and can’t wait to move on to the next toy so they toss aside what they are currently playing with.

The finale. (Can I count that as one episode?) I don’t remember having this much fun watching ouat in a while!2) Least Favorite Episode?
Hmm… tricky. I’ll probably go with the Tower. Not because it was terrible (I don’t think any episodes were really terrible this half-season), but because it was pretty mediocre. Rapunzel was a throwaway character and her storyline didn’t make a whole lot of sense.
“A curious thing” gets an honorable mention, because I really didn’t like the Snow killing Charming thing.3) What did you think of Zelena as a character/villain?
I liked her. Rebecca seemed to have so much fun playing her and the fun was contagious when watching her. The character did have some issues (in more way than one). For example, her entire motivation seemed rather flimsy. I’m still hoping we’ll see more of her. I think there was potential for interesting character development (for her and Regina) that I’d enjoy seeing.4) Favorite moment?
Hmm.. tricky. I’m not a shipper, but it would probably have been the Rumbelle proposal if it had turned out to be more sincere than it was. Neal’s death ranks pretty high (please don’t hit me!), because that’s one of the few scenes that had me in tears.
Maybe I’m prejudiced because I’ve just seen the finale, but the scenes in the vault where Emma regains her magic (and the confrontation with Rumple right afterwards) might be my favorites.
Edit: I guess one reason this season feels so average-ish, is that there weren’t many stand-out scenes for me.5) Overall rating for the season?
Meh, it was pretty mediocre (which means that compared to other shows it’s still amazingly good fun). I’d say 7.5 out of 10—————–
Shameless self-promotion: I go into more detail in my blog, where I do totally irreverent episode recaps (purely for my own amusement). http://purmagination.wordpress.com/
(They’re under “tv-shows -> once upon a time – > episode title”)May 14, 2014 at 10:56 am #269588TheWatcherParticipant1) Favorite Episode: It’s Not Easy Being Green & Kansas 😛 I can’t choose.
2) Least Favorite Episode? The Tower. Rapunzel was very underwhelming for me. Okay episode though.
3) What did you think of Zelena as a character/villain? LOVED HER!!!!!!! She was wickedly great 🙂 would have loved to have seen more of her… Maybe see her go after Cora in Wonderland or see how Jefferson got her crystal ball. But maybe some other time
4) Favorite Moment? Hmmm. When Zelena first meets Regina in person.
5) Overall rating for the season? 8.5. It had a different feel than S3A which I liked (I liked both parts of the season that is)"I could have the giant duck as my steed!" --Daniel Radcliffe
Keeper Of Tamara's Taser , Jafar's Staff, Kitsis’s Glasses , Ariel’s Tail, Dopey's Hat , Peter Pan’s Shadow, Outfit, & Pied Cloak,Red Queen's Castle, White Rabbit's Power To World Hop, Zelena's BroomStick, & ALL MAGICMay 14, 2014 at 11:15 am #269590Twice Upon A TimeParticipantFavorite Episode: There was really no standout episode for me but I guess I liked Witch Hunt solely because of Sassy!Regina
Least Favorite Episode: Quiet Minds- no explanation needed
Zelena as a villian: I liked her- but I definitely liked Pan more- but as far as villians go she was better than GOAT so thats something
Favorite Moment: The Neal flasback in the finale,Sassy Belle demanding an apology from Regina and Hook, the Rumbelle wedding Honorable Mention: OQ’s hot kiss
Overall Grade: C- This season forced me to reconsider my viewership- I was no longer looking forward to Sunday I lost a lot of my faith in A+E’s “bold” storytelling. Am I hopeful going into S4? No. But will I keep watching? Probably
May 14, 2014 at 11:54 am #269603WickedRegalParticipant1. Favorite Episode:
My favorite episode would be between Curious Things and Kansas…it was brilliantly written, and I loved that Regina was the one to save the day in the end, and managed to get light magic…so she’s light and dark caster now! 🙂
2. Least Favorite Episode:
My least favorite episode would have to be The Tower! I know many of you were thinking that I would say the season finale, but the Tower was poorly written, and as someone above me said, mediocre. I just did not care for it all, and I wish Rapunzel wasn’t the scared damsel in the tower! But hey…what’s Canon is what’s canon.
3. 3B Villain(Zelena) Rating:
Zelena was absolutely marvelous, her backstory could have been so much more though. I really expected for her to have a tragic upbringing, but what we got was a low self esteemed witch who was envy of her sister, and Regina had a far worse life than she had. But overall, I loved Zelena! I wish she was alive, and if what Adam and Eddy say…we may see her again in Season 4! #NoBodyNoDeath Besides…Zelena deserves a second chance, and Regina deserves the chance to have a big sister, who she really needs in this Season 4 Crisis.
4. Favorite Moment
My favorite moment had to be the Outlaw Queen scene in the Season Finale! It was just…wow! So filled with passion, love, and understanding! Just best moment to me!
5. Overall Grade: A- (Regina’s Season To Shine)
The overall grade for this half season is an A- for me! I loved it, 98% percent of my predictions were accurate! I just loved it! The only reason it’s not an A+ is because Rumple killed Zelena, Regina’s only blood family, and Robin seems to have left Regina for Marian. It would have been a B+ instead, but seeing Elsa’s grand appearance made me up it to an A-! 🙂 I don’t want to dwell that much on the negative, less I get fired up all over again, but the score is an A-!

May 14, 2014 at 12:12 pm #269608JhackParticipant1) Favorite Episode?
It’s Not Easy Being Green and Kansas – It was nice to see the show’s version of how the Wicked Witch became wicked. As for Kansas, I loved it because, well, it was cool to see Regina’s change.
2) Least Favorite Episode?
It’s a toss up between Quiet Minds (for obvious reasons), The Jolly Roger simply because I think that Blackbeard was a big fat filler, and The Tower. Again, the Rapunzel storyline was a big fat filler that could’ve been told differently. I was expecting more from her.
3) What did you think of Zelena as a character/villain?
I really didn’t expect Rebecca Mader to be this good. I have never seen Lost, and I only know her from The Devil Wears Prada so when I heard about the news that she was cast as the Wicked Witch of the West, I was on the fence. I am a big Wicked fan, so when it comes to the Wicked Witch, the only name that comes to mind is Idina Menzel. However, Rebecca Mader’s own take on the role was so good I hated her for it. Both Zelena and Pan were great villains, and although I hate Zelena for being uber jealous with tons of excess baggage, I almost don’t want her vanquished at the end of Kansas because she was too good of a villain. She’s like Cora to me; I don’t mind seeing her again in the future episodes.
4) Favorite moment?
The very first OutlawQueen kiss in Bleeding Through, Regina finding out that Robin Hood was the man with the lion tattoo (in Quiet Minds), Regina defeating Zelena in Kansas, the RumBelle wedding and my ultimate favorite, Emma telling Hook, “YOU ARE A STALKER!!!” in New York City Serenade. It never fails to make me laugh.
5) Overall rating for the season?
I really like this season and I would give it a ten, but the fact that they killed Nealfire and broke SwanFire makes me wanna punch them in the face, so I’d give it an 8.5. I like the fact that they focused more on the story (despite killing Neal) and avoided introducing all of the fairytale characters from around every possible realm, which sometimes doesn’t make sense.
And what sort of unanswered questions do you have?
Where is Mulan? Why is Henry considered as having the heart of the truest believer? What does Tink think of Emma ruining Regina’s chance at true love (I’m still sore about it)? And now that Meghan Ory’s show has been axed, does that mean she’s going back? I hope so.

May 14, 2014 at 1:13 pm #269629GrimmsisterParticipant1) Favorite Episode? Kansas. Great episode. Should have been the season end one.
2) Least Favorite Episode? I would have to agree with the others naming The Tower their least fave. Rapunzel? who is that?
3) What did you think of Zelena as a character/villain? I loved her. I was sad she died. Her road to villainhood made sense to me.
4) Favorite moment? Regina finding out she can use light magic. And dispite her dark Heart she has a bright loving soul ..YOU GO GIRL!!!
5) Overall rating for the season? I will be kind and give ***** 5 stars out of 7. I was highly entertained in most of the eps. But the writing and the overall “red thread” of the story, leaves something left to be desired.
6) What sort of unanswered questions do you have? All the plot holes- I have given up on trying to get answers for those. I dont really care about getting such answers, because Ive learned that we dont get them all that often. So to heck with plot holes! My unaswered questions for this season is: What is gonna happen to OQ? 😮 ???????????????????????? And Who the H. is that blond chick in the end scene????
May 14, 2014 at 2:08 pm #269645MatthewPaulModerator1) Favorite Episode? – “Snow Drifts”/”There’s No Place Like Home.” I just genuinely really enjoyed the finale, and these are episodes I enjoyed the most in quite some time. Yes a lot of it is a redux of “Snow Falls”, but hey I’m a big Back to the Future Fan and I absolutely loved seeing Emma’s reactions to her parents falling in love. It was a HUGE character developing episode for Emma, and she came a long way to fully come to terms with Snow and Charming as her “mom and dad” and Storybrooke as her home. I also got a kick out of how light-hearted most of the finale felt. That Elsa tease at the end gets a mention to for making me excited for Season 4.
2) Least Favorite Episode? – “Quiet Minds.” Whether it was right to kill of Neal or not is up for debate, I think most of us can safely agree that it could have been executed a lot better. The whole Nealplestliltskin fusion just felt too surreal and out of nowhere. Hypothetically, I think if they had made Neal a double agent trying to outsmart Zelena, and truly sacrificing his life against Zelena in the process, there would have been a lot more potential.
3) What did you think of Zelena as a character/villain? – I have mixed feelings about her. Rebecca Mader really did have fun in the role, and she brought in a new type of evil. Zelena’s best moments were her sibling rivalry talks with Regina, and when Zelena pretends to be just some nice midwife. Zelena’s weakness as a character for me mainly goes back to her backstory. Her backstory felt rushed, underdeveloped, and she was too quick to turn to becoming “wicked.” I mean, I for one don’t understand why Zelena didn’t just go back and meet Regina to start a new family relationship rather than going to Rumple. Who knows, Regina might have accepted Zelena had Zelena not gone crazy jealous. Overall, Pan was the stronger villain of the Season by far.
4) Favorite moment? – Emma’s entire speech where she realizes what home really is.
5) Overall rating for the season? – B+. My enjoyment for the Season outranks my nitpicks, and with Seasons 3A and 3B combined, I actually prefer it over Season 2. Season 2 was still more disjointed, and the entire Home Office thing took a lot of Season 2 down for me.
May 14, 2014 at 6:42 pm #269726ellieactiveParticipant1) Favorite Episode? New York City Serenade – it started the second half of the series really well.
2) Least Favorite Episode? Quiet Minds (Neal being super OOC and that whole thing put me off so much) and The Tower just cause it was filler.
3) What did you think of Zelena as a character/villain? Obviously knowing Rebecca Mader from Lost kinda put me off a bit but even though her backstory and reasons for being a villain were pretty weak and could have been filled out a lot more, I kind of liked Zelena in a weird sort of way. Much preferred Pan over her though.
4) Favorite moment? Neal sending the bird, Neal and Emma flashback, the Emma flashback as well, Regina and Snow forming a friendship
5) Overall rating for the season? Probably like 5/6 out of 10.. it was mediocre at best. The first half of the season was better. I’m pretty disappointed in this half to be honest -
