Can we please discuss this curse of the mermaids that Hook saved Baelfire from? These must be vicious mermaids after all, like the ones who drown sailors in POTC 4.
I agree. Bad mermaids. I wonder if the mermaids are divided in factions. Ariel and her sisters are the good mermaids but there was a rebellion by bad mermaids who now rule the underwater kingdom and have some sort of curse they placed in the water.
I hope it’s just that all mermaids have a dark side, and that’s what gets them a bad rep. The TV Guide article said that Hook is talking to Bae about mermaids when he’s teaching him to drive the ship, so I expect we’ll get more mermaid info apart from this mention in the sneak peek scene. I CAN’T WAIT!
Colin’s delivery of, “Well aren’t you quite the hero?” cracks me up. He’s gonna be so fascinated by and confused about this kid, and I look forward to seeing him trying to suss him out, and figuring out how to react to him.

I think Rumple has lost the will to live. He blames himself for what happened to both Bae and Belle. He sees that he has an addiction to magic and is thinking that the world would be better off without him. I don’t think he is going to go after Henry at this point- he seems to be at peace with the idea of dying.
This! OMG please let something change in him somehow so he fights back. Help him, Lacey-Belle Kenobi, you’re his only hope!
The way Rumple staggers backwards right after they tell him, like his whole world has been thrown off balance. And those unshed tears in his eyes! GAH! Robert Carlyle is perfection.

Ok. Thinking about things. If it’s NOT TLK that brings Belle back, then I want it to be Henry. I don’t know how, but Henry’s got to get to Grandpastiltskin SOMEHOW and that’s going to be a lot stronger than even being Bae’s son, considering the prophecy.
Yes. How DOES the prophecy figure into all this, now that we have a few sneak peeks? Rumple has given up on everything and seems content to die, meaning that the prophecy in which Henry is his undoing doesn’t mean anything as Rumple is ready to die.

I wonder if we are going to see the true meaning of Henry being Rumple’s undoing before the season ends or if that will still be up in the air.
I think we will see it this episode. They set it up back in episode 14 and to keep us waiting over the summer seems a bit cruel. I think it will mostly resolve itself this episode.
Didn’t E and A say at Paleyfest that Rumple’s undoing doesn’t necessarily mean a bad thing? Henry is now Rumple’s last link with Bae. What if Rumple is spurred into action by the news that GOAT have kidnapped Henry. Tamara took Bae from him, she sure as Hell isn’t going to take Henry too. That kind of thing.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixMay 9, 2013 at 5:08 pm #192484RumplesGirlKeymasterMaybe the “undoing” is undoing Rumple’s desire to die for penance.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 9, 2013 at 5:18 pm #192485PriceofMagicParticipantThis is not going to end well for Tamara. She’s going to have Rumple after her for killing Neal after she kidnaps Henry, Regina after her for kidnapping Henry, the Charmings after her for kidnapping Henry, Emma after her for kidnapping Henry and killing Neal, and probably the home office after her and Greg for failing to destroy Storybrooke (I think Storybrooke survives which is why GOAT take Henry as a last resort). I think she’s going to kill Greg especially if he starts showing a soft spot towards Henry.
Perhaps a mermaid gets her?

I was actually thinking that his “undoing” had more to do with the fact that Henry is the motivation behind the selfless acts of his family. Neal’s motivation for sacrificing himself for example – He let go of Emma’s hand and fell through the portal because he didn’t want Henry to lose both his parents and grow up the same way they did. In a sense, Rumple losing Bae again was because of Henry.
May 9, 2013 at 5:22 pm #192488PheeParticipantMore ponderings on the “curse of the mermaids” and I’m sticking with it being the traditionally held belief that mermaids drag you down to your death. Because that right there is the perfect setup for us to see Ariel save someone instead, and prove the myth wrong.
The Hookriel shipper in me wants to call it foreshadowing that Hook in particular says that particular stuff about mermaids, and he will personally experience the opposite. But regardless of who Ariel’s prince ends up being, I think that them introducing the “curse of the mermaids” as being this, it’s a perfect setup to show Ariel doing the opposite in a later ep.
May 9, 2013 at 5:32 pm #192490KebParticipantThere are so many loose ends they have to tie up–or at least satisfactorially suspend for S3–this Sunday. I believe they can do it but I’m baffled as to how they will.
I do think that Rumple accepting blame and not passing it off to others is a real sign of change in him, though. Every other time we’ve seen him dealing with stuff, he passes on the blame that we know is aimed at himself to someone else–the BF, the Seer, Milah, Hook, Moe, Regina, Keith–but this time, he tells the Charmings that it’s his fault. And that he’s ready to accept the price.
He’s still not making the right choices and I think Belle and Henry are going to have to make him see that somehow, but at least he’s not passing on the blame.
Keeper of Belle's Gold magic, sand dollar, cloaks, purple FTL outfit, spell scroll, library key, copy of Romeo and Juliet, and cry-muffling pillow, Rumple's doll, overcoat, and strength, and The Timeline. My spreadsheet: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6r8CySCCWd9R0RUNm4xR3RhMEU/view?usp=sharing

Nice. AND Bae was in the water, just sort of floating, before Hook fished him out. He could have been saving Bae from being taken by the mermaids to his death.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 9, 2013 at 5:39 pm #192493HappyEndingsSpectatorThis is what I think will happen with the mermaid thing: Emma will have to kill Ursula, like PC did to the siren in the lake but again I could be wrong. 😕

And here I thought I was the only one who still believes that SB won’t go BOOM.

So true! Ladies and gents, I do believe we have our “game-changer”.
